Senpai, It’s Cold Outside

Merry Christmas, everyone!

This year’s yandere-themed Christmas parody is based on the 1944 classic, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”! I hope you enjoy it!

And with that, my 7-day-long upload streak comes to an end. This was the last video that I wanted to upload before returning 100% of my attention to development. Time to dive back into the game!

I’m happy to say that watching people play the Amai Challenge has provided me with exactly the kind of data I was hoping for! Over the past couple of days, I’ve witnessed players using stealth, caution, and strategy, instead of simply pulling up a Scheme and following every step on a checklist. It’s so satisfying to see players planning things out ahead of time, carefully hiding bodies, and cautiously peeking around corners. That’s exactly what the gameplay was always supposed to be like! It’s been a very hard-hitting reminder of what I was originally envisioning for the game, and where I should be focusing my attention on development.

The experience has also shown me several more bugs, exploits, and game design flaws, which I’ll be addressing as soon as I can. Look forward to a bug-fixing build in the near future!

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

P.S. – Please check out this amazing video that Victorialand created, based on last year’s Christmas song!

My Love Is Stronger Than You

In 2017, shortly after the release of “Even Yanderes Need To Love“, Michaela Laws recorded the vocals for a yandere-themed parody of the Steven Universe song “Stronger Than You“. I wanted to turn it into a music video and release it, but I was worried that people would complain that I should be working on Osana instead, so I decided to postpone the release of the video until after Osana was finished.

After Osana was finally released, I was busy fixing bugs and making improvements to the demo for a few months, so I didn’t have an opportunity to make a music video for this song until November. But then I felt worried that it would be really weird if my first video on YouTube after a long absence was a silly music video, so I decided that I should release a few videos about game development before posting this.

Now, the time has finally come! I’ve finished Osana and I’ve released 5 “game development” videos, so I feel that I am finally justified in releasing a silly “just for fun” video.

I hope you think it’s cute and funny!

When Will Yandere Simulator Be Finished? When’s The Crowdfunding Campaign? When’s Amai?

Update: Oops! The new build that I uploaded had the .exe in the wrong place, so the game wouldn’t run. I’ve re-uploaded the build with the .exe in the right place. Please download the latest build to play the game without having to mess with the location of the .exe. Sorry about that!

Out of all the videos I’ll be uploading in December, this is the most important one. This video answers a lot of questions:

  • What’s the criteria for completing a rival?
  • How quickly can new rivals be added to the game?
  • What is missing in order to add more rivals to the game?
  • Why does Yandere Simulator need a crowdfunding campaign?
  • What will be the stretch goals for the crowdfunding campaign?
  • What will happen if the crowdfunding campaign fails?
  • What does YandereDev need to do before launching the crowdfunding campaign?
  • Why doesn’t YandereDev just use his Patreon money to hire a team?
  • How much of the money raised through the Crowdfunding campaign will go to YandereDev?
  • What year will Yandere Simulator be released in?
  • When will YandereDev launch the crowdfunding campaign?
  • When will Amai be finished?
  • Will there be any more “Challenges” like the Amai Challenge?
  • What will YandereDev be focusing on at this point?

This is probably one of the most informative videos I’ve ever made! To be perfectly honest with you…I re-wrote, re-recorded, and re-edited this video 5 times because I was always dissatisfied with it and always wanted to go back and add more information / clarification. I’m finally happy with it, though (for now!) and I really hope that you enjoy it!

Okay, with that out of the way, I have to admit something:

I screwed up really bad yesterday!!!

The “Amai Challenge” was accidentally released with a critical flaw: It was possible to talk to Amai! This was completely unintentional. That was never part of my plan for the Challenge. The player is not meant to be able to talk with Amai while she’s busy operating a bake sale. If you think about it, realistically, a person who is busy selling baked goods is not going to drop everything they’re doing to chat with you. It was always my plan that Amai would simply reply with, “Sorry, I can’t talk right now” if the player tried to talk to her. However, I released the Challenge without this feature, so nobody experienced the Challenge as intended. What a terrible blunder! I feel so bad about it!

In the final game, every rival will, of course, have circumstances that prevent “Befriend her and ask her to follow you someplace private” from being a valid strategy without putting in some work first. Sometimes you’ll have to deal with a group of followers first (like Kizana), sometimes the rival will have overwhelming strength (like Osoro), and sometimes it’ll be something completely different (like Hanako). The player will always have to solve a “puzzle” (like getting rid of Raibaru) before making a rival become vulnerable. The experience will be different for each rival, but it should never be as easy as just talking to her repeatedly, or befriending her and then leading her somewhere within the first few minutes of the game.

If you spoke with Amai in order to complete the Challenge, you didn’t get the intended experience, and I didn’t get any meaningful data from watching you. I’m very sorry! I really hope that you’ll download the new build that I’ve released today and try it again.

How Will Yandere Simulator’s Future Rivals Be Different From Osana?

Each of the videos I uploaded over the past 3 days were about the current state of the demo – but now that I’m done talking about that, I’m ready to start discussing my plans for the future. Specifically, how exactly will all of Yandere Sim’s rivals differ from Osana? How will the school change over the 10-week period that the game takes place in? How will the gameplay change in each of those weeks? In this video, I talk all about it!

I’m also releasing a new build today! It took a while to upload, but it’s now available from all of the usual sources!

The Origin of Yandere Simulator’s Stealth Mission

For the past two days, I’ve discussed nearly every aspect of the demo that I wanted to talk about in a video – but one subject was suspiciously absent…the topic of the stalker house stealth mission. I actually have so much to say about that mission that I decided to make an entire video about it! Please join me as I discuss the origin of the stealth mission, the factors that will determine whether or not there will be more stealth missions added to the game in the future, and the ways in which the stealth mission has changed since it was originally added to the demo.

I hope you like the video!

By the way, I’m not releasing a new build today, but I will be releasing a new build tomorrow.

New Features and Future Plans for Yandere Simulator

Yesterday’s video was about the changes I’ve made to the game in response to the feedback that I’ve received. This video is about some additions that I’ve made to the game recently, some observations that I’ve made while watching people play the game, and some changes that I’d like to make in the future.

Please enjoy!

Once again, I’d like to clarify that there is no new build today. The next time I release a new build will be December 22nd.

Video Progress Report

In my previous blog post, I said that I was working on three separate videos. In the time since then, that number has gone up to five. Three of those videos are currently complete. Because they are all part of a “series”, I won’t upload any of them until all of them are finished. Once they are all finished, I will be releasing one video per day. I will also be uploading a music video that was finished earlier this year but was never released, and then I’ll be uploading a parody of a Christmas song.

Where’s the video?

In my last blog post, I said I was working on a new video. However, it’s been over 2 weeks, and the video still hasn’t come out yet! What’s up with that? Usually, it only takes me a few days to make a video. None of my videos have ever taken 2 weeks to produce! So, what’s the holdup? When is the video going to be out?

I’ll tell you everything! Scroll down past this absolutely precious artwork by Luariaura and click “Continue Reading” to get the details.
