February 21st – The Totally Normal Update

Updated at 6:45 PM, Feb 21st – New Build Available

I’ve prepared a new build of the game. It’s a totally normal build. There’s nothing weird in this build. It’s just a normal build, like all the others. I didn’t put anything weird into the game. It’s a normal, average, ordinary, everyday, standard update. You shouldn’t expect anything weird in this update. It’s completely, totally, entirely, absolutely, 100% normal. Don’t go hunting for weird new things that might have been added, or anything like that.

Just look at this totally normal illustration that was created by minorpeybee:

Look, I just posted some artwork, like I always do. That’s clearly evidence that this is a normal update, right?

Stop looking at me like that! I didn’t put anything weird into the game! Just look at this totally normal changelog!

Totally Normal Changelog

  • Attempted to implement support for all aspect ratios, not just the 16:9 aspect ratio that I’ve been using up until now. Warning: Any aspect ratio other than 16:9 will be buggy during Yandere Vision.
  • Pointing your camera at a girl who is wearing pants is no longer considered to be lewd behavior.
  • Yandere-chan now wears thigh-high stockings instead of leggings in all of her outfits.
  • Fixed bug that would cause some characters to appear bald in the “Witness Camera”.
  • Gave the Titans in Titan Mode a new texture, thanks to help from Druelbozo!
  • Removed several copyrighted tracks and replaced them with original tracks.
  • Fixed bug that would cause teachers to go bald when decapitated.
  • It is now possible to dismember male corpses.
  • Restored Senpai’s normal default picture.
  • Totally didn’t add anything weird in the Occult room.

Totally Normal Edit

  • Fixed bug that would screw up Yandere-chan’s holding/carrying animations after traveling to the…totally normal place.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent Yandere-chan from taking out her camera once she had visited the…totally normal place.
  • Removed debug command that made it way too easy to summon the…totally normal things.
  • Replaced the sound effect that plays when you travel to the…totally normal place.
  • Added new voiced lines for one of the…totally normal people.

There! Are you happy?! Now you can see everything that’s different in this build! And it’s all totally normal! All of it! Nothing weird at all!

In Closing

Currently, only one of them is functional. The other two don’t do anything yet. Once you figure out which one of them is functional, you can stop trying to get the other two to do something.

That was a TOTALLY NORMAL paragraph that I just wrote, and there was nothing weird about it AT ALL, so stop getting weird ideas about this build, okay? TOTALLY NORMAL. Don’t give me that look! Baka!

I’ll try to update the game again on March 1st. I hope there will be enough time to implement a good feature between now and then!

February 17th Bug-Fixing Update

I’ve prepared an update that should fix many of the most-commonly-reported bugs. Head to the Downloads page to grab it! If you’d like to read a list of everything that is fixed in this new build, scroll down beneath this incredibly beautiful illustration by the amazingly talented Marfrey!

Now that you’ve had an opportunity to bask in the glory of an art god, it’s time for a list of fixes!

Fixes and Changes

  • Fixed bug that would cause Kokona to perform a sitting animation without a chair if she was waiting somewhere during a point in time when her daily schedule would have caused her to be been sitting.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to spawn an infinite number of heads if Yandere-chan attempted to dismember an NPC after killing that NPC using a method that did not spill blood.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan to permanently register as “standing next to a corpse” after dismembering a corpse.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the police to locate blood-stained gloves even if the player had incinerated the gloves.
  • Fixed bug that would allow Kokona to open the storage room door when it was meant to be locked.
  • Fixed bug that was preventing the “Distract” feature from working properly.
  • Fixed bug that would allow the player to laugh while carrying a corpse.
  • Fixed bug that would allow the player to dismember tranquilized NPCs.
  • The character named “Mai Waifu” now has rainbow-colored eyes. In other words, her eyes now gradually change their color, cycling through every color of the rainbow, every moment of the day.
  • Students now have a spoken reaction to witnessing Yandere-chan carrying around a circular saw.

Please read this before e-mailing me and read this before reporting a bug!

February 15th Progress Update

The next “big” feature isn’t 100% ready yet, but it’s mostly functional, so I’m going to provide a new build and upload a video showing off the progress that I made over the past 7 days.

As of now, dismemberment is only 50% implemented; it doesn’t work on males, it only works on the default uniform, it doesn’t get reactions from NPCs, it doesn’t provide any type of advantage…so, if you’re looking for interesting new gameplay objectives and challenges, you should probably wait until the next build.

Here’s a list of all of the changes in this build:

Dismemberment

  • Added a new weapon – the circular saw – to the game.
  • It is now possible to dismember a student using a circular saw.
  • All body parts (head, torso, arms, legs) can be picked up, carried, dropped, and incinerated.
  • NPCs and police do not react to body parts yet.
  • As of now, dismemberment only works on females.
  • As of now, the body parts that appear after dismembering an NPC will always be clad in the default uniform.

Additions and Changes

  • It is now impossible to struggle against an NPC if you’re holding a weapon that is too large to conceal, such as the katana or the circular saw. If a weapon is too large to conceal, then it’s too unwieldy to use in close quarters and would only make Yandere-chan more vulnerable during a struggle.
  • At the request of an important person, all Undertale audio assets are now removed from the game, and the appearance of the “Gaster Blasters” has now been altered so that they are completely unique.
  • It is now possible to pick up a corpse and carry it while walking or running, if the player has leveled up their Physical Education stat at least one time.
  • Implemented a real “dump corpse into incinerator” animation, rather than re-purposing a “throw” animation in order to place a corpse into the incinerator.
  • Added “APPREHENDED” text instead of “HEARTBROKEN” text when Yandere-chan is apprehended by a teacher or a Heroic student.
  • It is now possible to dump corpses off the rooftop at locations where the railing is low enough.
  • Run speed now becomes faster each time the player levels up their Physical Education stat.
  • Provided new hairstyles to most members of the Martial Arts Club.
  • Added a work-in-progress exterior to the school gymnasium.
  • Gave a new name to the student formerly named Shi Ta.
  • Added two new hairstyles for Senpai.

Fixes

  • Attempted to fix bug that would cause students to become unable to enter their clubrooms, and cause them to access a different clubroom instead.
  • Fixed one of Yandere-chan’s hairstyles, which was appearing at her feet instead of at her head.
  • Fixed bug that was preventing Yandere-chan’s hair from having color in “Ice Fairy Mode”.
  • Fixed a typo when leaving a note in Kokona’s locker.
  • Restored Mai Waifu’s long hair and huge breasts.
  • Restored Titan Mode functionality.

Secret Message

This message isn’t related to Yandere Simulator, so I’m hiding it behind a cipher:

In Closing…

Just to save you some time, I should mention that there is no way to summon a demon in the Occult Club…yet. But, now that dismemberment has been added to the game, I can finally begin to make some progress in that area…something fun and very very interesting might be added to the next build.

One last note: remember this to keep me sane! Well, actually, I lost my sanity years ago, but I would still strongly advise reading that post anyway.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

❤ Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! ❤

Because this holiday and Yandere Simulator are both about romance, I think that today would be a good day to share something special with you!

Last year, a video production group approached me and told me that they would like to create a short promotional video for Yandere Simulator. They asked me for a script. I wrote a script that was meant to be synchronized to a popular Japanese folk song called “Tsubasa Wo Kudasai” and asked a very helpful artist to illustrate a storyboard. The production group planned to film the video in November 2015, when a cherry tree in Asia was blooming. It was going to be awesome!

Unfortunately, that video production group got really busy, and couldn’t actually film the video. The cherry tree’s blooming season is over now, too.

I didn’t want the concept or the storyboard to go to waste, so I asked a very talented musician and several very talented vocalists to provide me with a cover of Tsubasa Wo Kudasai, synchronized the song and the illustrations, and uploaded this video.

Absolutely anyone is welcome to create an animated or live-action version of this video. You can do it in Asia or in your backyard, with professional actors or with your friends, for profit or for free. You’re also welcome to make whatever changes or additions you think would be an improvement.

Tsubasa Wo Kudasai is a copyrighted song. I don’t own the rights to this song. Fortunately, the owners of this song will not take down a YouTube video that features this song. (However, YouTube requires you to share your profit with the copyright owners if you monetize a video featuring this song, regardless of whether or not it’s a cover.)

This video uses a cover version of Tsubasa Wo Kudasai. If you want to use this cover in your own video, you’d have to get permission from the vocalists and musician credited at the end of the video.

I’m anticipating a certain question as a result of uploading this video…

“Is this SNAP Mode?”

The answer is both “yes” and “no”. I’m not willing to divulge any more details than that. You’ll see!

Valentine’s Day llustrations

By the way, I’ve also got some very lovely artwork to share with you today!

First up is a gorgeous illustration from pixelnoodle:

The talented Valeria San-Martin has produced these magnificent works of art:

And the skilled Bakki has graced us with these beautiful masterpieces:

I’m very, very happy that Yandere Simulator has attracted the attention of such talented artists!

I’m 90% certain that I’m going to have a new video and a new build uploaded at some point on February 15th. It might occur at midnight, or it might occur later in the day. I hope that you’ll enjoy what you see in the next build!

Senpai Notice Me: A Yandere Simulator Musical

The fine folks at Random Encounters have put together a yandere-themed video that left my jaw on the floor! I’d love to share it with you!

I’m absolutely thrilled that Yandere Simulator is inspiring people to produce such amazing creations! Every day, I see hilarious videos and beautiful illustrations that absolutely blow my mind! I’m so happy to see so much talent and skill in the Yandere Simulator fanbase!

You know…I’ve been working on a video, too! Perhaps it will be ready in time for Valentine’s Day…? We’ll just have to wait and find out…

February 8th Cosmetic Update

Hello! I’ve got a new update prepared. Don’t get too excited; most of the changes in this new update are cosmetic in nature.

Several of the game’s most important scripts have been bothering me for a very long time, because they weren’t as optimal as I wanted them to be. I spent a few days re-writing these scripts and then re-writing a bunch of other scripts to be compatible with the changes I had made. This update might seem very boring, because there aren’t any awesome new features to show off, but it was still very important for me to spend some time fixing those scripts. Hopefully, the changes that I’ve made will speed up development in the future!

If you’d like to read a list of the fixes in this build, scroll down below this extremely badass illustration from Shyua!

By the way – Yandere Simulator contains a lot of copyrighted material (like the Attack on Titan theme song) that was added to the game because it seemed funny at the time, but I can’t sell a game that contains content I don’t have permission to display. Some things (like Megalovania and the Gaster Blaster skulls) will have to be changed or removed in the future. Enjoy these things while you still can, because they will be replaced by parodies in the future.

Credits

I’ve added a “credits” sequence to the game, accessed via the main menu. The current credits sequence does not contain a complete list of all people who have contributed to the game; I just decided to get the credits sequence started.

If you have created an asset that is currently in the game, and your name is not listed in the credits, please send me an e-mail with “Credits” in the subject line and let me know tell me that you’d like to be credited. Please include a screenshot of your work so that I know what it is that you’ve contributed.

Changelog

Bug-fixes:

  • Fixed bug that would cause Kokona to smile and post if the player aimed a camera at her while she was nude. (I don’t have “react negatively to someone trying to take pictures of you while you’re nude” animations yet.)
  • Fixed bug that would cause Kokona’s phone call event to get screwed up if Kokona was posing for a picture when the event began, or if the player pointed a camera at her during her event.
  • Fixed size of the club leader armband, which was clipping into characters’ arms in some of their outfits.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Senpai to become a floating pair of eyes during a game over sequence.
  • Fixed clipping issue in the female mohawk hairstyle.
  • Fixed a typo on Kokona’s student info page.

Additions:

  • Gave original hair models to the first 6 female characters so that they don’t have to walk around wearing modified versions of Yandere-chan’s hair.
  • Added the “moon choker” accessory to students in the Occult Club.
  • Enabled more hairstyles for Senpai during Senpai customization.
  • Implemented a new hairstyle for Midori.
  • Added a new hairstyle for Yandere-chan.

99% of the hairstyles in Yandere Simulator were created by the extremely talented Druelbozo! If you want Druelbozo to be able to continue contributing to Yandere Simulator, please consider supporting him via Patreon!

What’s next?

I try to update the game on the 1st and 15th days of every month. There are only 7 days remaining until the 15th. Since there’s almost no time left in the day today and I need to spend 1 day recording a video about the latest update, I really only have 5 days to work. Can I implement dismemberment within the next 5 days?

We’ll see…

Remember to keep this in mind!

February 2nd Bug-Fixing Build

I’ve got a bunch of bug fixes for you! Click here to download the next build! If you’d like to read a list of all the things that are fixed / changed in this build, scroll down past this absolutely gorgeous artwork by TheJennyPill!

Fixes and Changes

  • When students play games in the computer lab, they are supposed to shut the game off when they walk away from the computer. I’ve fixed a bug that was preventing the students from properly shutting the game off when walking away from their computers during some circumstances.
  • It is no longer possible to tell a student to “Go Away” if they are currently walking from one place to another. It is now only possible to tell a student to “Go Away” if they have actually reached some destination that they intend to occupy for some time.
  • Previously, telling multiple students to “Go Away” would cause them to all travel to the exact same spot and attempt to occupy one position in space. Now, telling multiple students to “Go Away” causes them all to go to different spots.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the laptop girl to continue talking and animating even if time had stopped (via pausing or taking a picture). Also, the girl’s speech will now slow down when Yandere Vision is active.
  • Previously, it was possible to speak to students in the middle of class. Now, students will tell you to hush and leave them alone if you try to speak to them while class is in session.
  • Attempted to fix bug that would cause students to be unable to pathfind towards destinations on the school’s second floor (primarily affected the Martial Arts Club).
  • Fixed bug that would cause students to sit in midair if you told them to “Go Away” during a point in time when their schedule would cause them to sit in a chair.
  • Fixed bug that would allow Yandere-chan to put on a school uniform while she was still bloody if she removed a bloody club uniform while at her locker.
  • Telling a student to “Go Away” will no longer make them spend hours standing alone somewhere. They will now only “Go Away” for a maximum of 60 seconds.
  • Spaced out the lines of text in the Police Investigation Sequence so that the lines of text are no longer intersecting.
  • Students are no longer willing to perform favors for you if their next class begins in less than 30 minutes.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Occult Club members to die with books in their hands.
  • Removed strength value for a character who doesn’t fight back when attacked.

Reminder

By the way, you guys, PLEASE keep this information in mind: https://yanderedev.wordpress.com/2016/01/15/please-stop/ I’ve had to point dozens of people to that blog post over the past 2 days.

Personalities and Photography in Yandere Simulator

It’s time for a new build and a new video!

This video explains my reasoning for adding certain things to the game, tells you what’s new this week, and describes some things that I’d like to add to the game in the future:

Here’s a list of everything that is new in the latest build:

Personas and Photography

  • There are now 7 Personality types, or “Personas” in total.
  • The 3 new ones are Coward, Evil, and Social Butterfly.
  • (Female) Students will now react when the player aims a camera at them. Their reaction depends on their personality.
  • For now, all male students will have the Loner personality or Teacher’s Pet personality, and will not react to the camera. I can’t give them other personalities or reactions because, at this point in time, I don’t have an animation rig for male characters, and I can’t transfer female animations to male skeletons.
  • If the player joins the Photography Club, students will not react to the camera, and will allow the player to Photograph them without any problems.

Bug Fixes

  • Attempted to fix a bug that would get cause two students walking in a straight line towards one another to get “stuck” on one another, and unable to proceed along their paths.
  • The player is no longer allowed to use the “Torture for 12 hours” or “Torture for 18 hours” option to skip the day on a Friday, since this would break the Calendar screen.
  • Attempted to fix a bug where a student dying from poison could have their “dying from poison” animation be interrupted.
  • Removed shadows from the custom face template image in the Streaming Assets folder.
  • If Senpai dies because of an easter egg, he will come back to life the next day.
  • Did a better job of hiding the hidden girl.
  • Fixed bug that would allow students to walk around during the post-game screen or after a game over, which was causing several other bugs to be possible.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Kokona’s phone event to malfunction if the player was speaking to Kokona while her event was beginning.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Kuu Dere’s Student Info page to display Mai Waifu’s portrait.
  • Fixed an incorrect classroom sign.

Additions

  • Added a humorous “WARNING” message to the beginning of the game. I might remove it, if people complain that it gives the game the wrong vibe.
  • Added a bunch of “Fake” students who exist so that the player can join clubs that don’t have official club leaders yet.
  • An accessory will now appear on Yandere-chan’s body when she joins certain clubs (Cooking, Occult, Martial Arts, Photography).
  • Attempted to improve the framerate of the game by making optimizations to certain scripts.
  • Added hair physics to some long hairstyles that were lacking physics.
  • Gave each teacher in the game a unique appearance.
  • Added a greenhouse to the gardening club zone.
  • Added 6 new hairstyles for Yandere-chan.
  • Added 1 new hairstyle for Senpai-kun.

Sanity Effects

  • Ever since the first week of the game’s development, Yandere-chan’s eyes would shrink when she lost her sanity. Previously, her eyes would shrink into very small dots. This reflects an “angry” character, not a “hollow” character, so I have changed the minimum size of her eyes. Her eyes can still shrink, but not as much as before. Her eyes are meant to say “I am empty and dead inside”, and not “I am violent and crazy.”
  • Previously, Yandere-chan’s eyes would become blank and lifeless when “Yandere Vision” was activated. Now, they become blank when she loses sanity.
  • Now, when Yandere Vision is activated, Yandere-chan’s eyes become red.
  • A shadow now gradually falls over Yandere-chan’s face as she loses sanity.

By the way, I foolishly forgot to mention it last time, but the “Bad Time” easter egg was only made possible through help from Saracen! Thank you, Saracen!

What’s Next?

My current objective is to make all clubs functional. The reason that I implemented personalities this week was so that I could get the Photography club’s benefit to function. So, the next features that I’ll add to the game will be “whatever features must be implemented in order to make all clubs become functional.” The Light Music club’s benefit is that Yandere-chan gains access to a cello case that allows her to carry a corpse without appearing suspicious…but only if that corpse has been chopped up into pieces first. So, the Light Music Club can’t become functional until dismemberment returns to the game. I definitely want to re-implement it…let’s just hope that I can pull it off within 2 weeks!
