In the past, I have always tried to upload a new video and a new build on the 1st and 15th day of every month, right when the clock strikes midnight (in the PST timezone). The video I’m currently working on is quite an elaborate one, so I won’t be able to hit the midnight deadline tonight.
This video is is going to be around 10 minutes long, and it usually takes me 1 hour of work to produce 1 minute of video footage, so it’ll take me around 10 hours total to finish this video. It probably won’t be ready tonight…however, I feel very hopeful that the video will probably be finished less than 27 hours from now!
Here’s an imgur album of some screenshots from the next video! I wonder how much people can guess about my next video, just from these screenshots?
Also, did you know that I added a new character to the Characters page today? He’s alllll the way down at the very bottom…take a look, if you’re interested!
In yesterday’s blog post about the rival video, I briefly mentioned that I asked five different musicians to compose music for the video. You may be wondering why I gave the same task to so many different people! The reason is because there is never a guarantee that a volunteer will be able to finish a task that they have been given. Sometimes they have to stop contributing to the project because an important job came up, or because they need to study for exams, or because of family issues / health issues, or because they simply lost interest in the project. All of these things are perfectly understandable! Volunteers are generously helping me out of the kindness of their hearts, and have no obligation to do anything I ask them to do. As a result, I often give the same task to multiple people, to increase the chances that least one of them actually finishes the job.
In the case of the rival video, out of the five musicians that I asked for help, only two of them actually finished the job. (The less-than-50% success rate demonstrates why it’s necessary to hand out the same task to multiple people.) This means that I had to make the very difficult decision of deciding whose music would actually be featured in the video. For the “Official” music video, I chose to use the track created by the talented Taylor Ambrosio Wood.
The Damprog Music team also completed a track for the Rival Introduction Video. It’s a really great track, and I don’t want it to go to waste, so I’ve uploaded an alternate version of the Rival video featuring Damprog’s music. You can check it out here:
In addition to the alternate rival video, there is one more thing to mention today. The official website’s “Characters” page has been updated with 10 additional characters!
The Rival Introduction Video is finally out! You can read all about it here!
While I was waiting for the volunteers to submit what I needed, I fixed bugs and made some minor additions to the game…and now a new update is available!
Here’s everything that is new in the latest build:
Fixed bug that was causing panties to not be censored by the “Censor Panties” command. (Thanks to Johny Michelson, who also helped out with the nurse’s character model and a few other miscellaneous things.)
Adjusted the code that dictates how a character reacts to murder so that Kokona/Riku will attack Yandere-chan if Yandere-chan kills one of them after the two of them have become a couple.
Fixed bug that would cause Riku to speak with a female’s voice instead of a male’s voice if he was sent to the dating spot and then didn’t have any sort of interaction.
Fixed bug that caused students who spotted Yandere-chan doing something suspicious to tilt at extreme angles if Yandere-chan was at a different elevation.
Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan / Kokona to sit in midair when bathing, if using the stool in the girls’ locker room to bathe.
Fixed bug that was causing Riku’s head to appear bald after witnessing murder, if he was wearing one of the new hairstyles.
Fixed bug that would allow Yandere-chan to use the “Offer Help” command on the rooftop even if Kokona was dead.
Yandere-chan’s “Seduction” skill now adds a bonus to her Affection Multiplier during the dating minigame.
Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan to spin wildly if she was shoved by a delinquent while tripping.
Brightened up the texture of the white paths around the school.
Updated the Student Council President’s appearance.
Added 13 new commands to the debug menu.
Improved the “Turn off radio” animation.
Fixed a typo in the dating minigame.
What’s next?
The Characters page is not complete yet. Tomorrow, I’m going to upload 10 more profiles, including a few characters whose true identities will be a mystery for quite some time.
After that, I’ll begin working on a video that will explain everything that will need to be done before Yandere Simulator can receive its first official rival.
The Characters page will be updated soon with 10 more characters! Yes, Yandere Simulator has more planned characters than you might think. The next time I update the Characters page, I will announce it with a blog post.
Reasons for Rival Video Delay
You’d probably like to hear an explanation for why it took so long to produce the Rival intro video. On August 15th, I polled the fanbase to find out what you wanted me to focus my attention on next, and the majority of you voted for the Rival video. At that point in time, I fully intended to follow the results of the poll…but something happened that made me choose to focus my attention on the Matchmaking video, instead.
As I’m sure many of you already know by now, screenshots from an earlier version of the Rival video were somehow leaked to the Internet. This was very disappointing to me, and honestly, it significantly diminished my motivation for working on the Rival video. After I lost my motivation, I decided to focus exclusively on the Matchmaking feature, instead. If it wasn’t for the leaks, I wouldn’t have lost my motivation, and this video would have been out 3~4 weeks ago.
It is still a complete mystery how screenshots from the Rival video were leaked. Here are the facts:
Only five people were allowed to see this video; the musicians who were asked to compose music for it.
I was extremely secretive about this video, and allowed NOBODY else to see it, not even my closest friends.
I uploaded an early version of the video to YouTube as an “unlisted” video so that the musicians could compose music for it. I checked the video’s view count every day, to check for anything suspicious. One day, the view count shot up to 50. This was extremely suspicious (an indication that someone was spreading around the link to the video) so I deleted the video immediately.
The entire video was not leaked; only screenshots of it were leaked. This makes me believe that whoever took the screenshots was only able to watch it once; otherwise, they would have taken additional screenshots.
One of the composers who I sent this video to has not responded to any of my attempts to communicate with them. (I will call him “The 5th Composer”).
Considering all of the above information, my current theory is that The 5th Composer didn’t take the confidential nature of the video very seriously, and broadcasted it during a live-stream. Someone took screenshots of it, and posted these screenshots on Instagram. From there, the screenshots were spread around the Internet. I have no evidence to confirm that The 5th Composer is the one responsible for the leak; this is only a theory, so there is not much else for me to say.
If you have some free time, I’d like to ask you to answer a few polls for me:
Prior to this blog post, were you aware that screenshots of the Rival video had been leaked? http://poal.me/5qxw6i
If you were aware of the leak…
Did you avoid looking at any images / videos of the leaked material? http://poal.me/u9rzuc
The next thing I will focus my attention on is making a video about everything I’ll need to do in order to implement Yandere Simulator’s first real official rival. I hope to have that video out by October 1st – and then you’ll know what my priorities for the month of October are going to be!
As always, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

There were a couple of really bad bugs still lingering around in the last build, so I decided to produce a new build that fixes those issues – and I fixed some other, minor issues, too.
Scroll down past this creepy-yet-beautiful illustration by Eisjon to see a list of everything that I fixed in this build!
Bug Fixes
A student who is in the middle of their love confession protocol (leaving a love letter, finding a love letter, waiting under the cherry tree) can no longer be distracted by a giggle from Yandere-chan.
Tweaked the code for the students’ pathfinding in an attempt to prevent the framerate from dropping so much when speeding up time. (At this point in time, I am not yet finished solving this problem.)
Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan to become stuck when trying to exit the third floor hiding spot if there was a student standing near that spot.
Fixed bug that was causing the 4th school uniform option (the brown blazer) to appear differently on Yandere-chan than on every other student.
Adjusted Kokona’s “insert love letter into locker” animation and added a love letter into her hands when she performs the animation.
It is no longer possible for corpses to fall through the ground if they have been dragged onto the sidewalk outside of the school.
Fixed bug that was causing students to become invincible while running out of school, as long as they were past the school gate.
Fixed bug that was causing the game to become unresponsive after fulfilling Musume’s request for a box of cigarettes.
Fixed bug that was causing mind-broken slaves to enter the “reacting to murder” state…while committing murder.
Made the Pink Panties buff functional (it applies a boost when Matchmaking).
The Rival Introduction Video is still on the way. Once again, I apologize that it is taking so long! Thank you for your patience!

It’s that time again! The last build contained some nasty bugs, so I’ve uploaded a new build that should work much better.

Bug Fixes
Fixed bug that would cause Kokona’s head to sometimes rotate 180 degrees. (As a side-effect of fixing this bug, Kokona no longer smoothly turns her head when looking towards something. She now “snaps” her head to look in that direction.)
Fixed bug that would cause Kokona to look directly down through the floor or directly up through the ceiling at attractive students in the rooms beneath or above her current position.
Attempted to fix bug that would cause the player to become permanently stuck in the Yanvania minigame by dying and leveling up at the exact same moment in time.
Fixed bug that would cause Kokona to get stuck in a “posing for camera” pose if the player aimed a camera at her while she was holding hands with a boy.
Fixed bug that would cause Kokona to run in place if the player pointed a camera at her face while she was following Yandere-chan around.
Attempted to fix bug that would cause Yandere-chan’s camera phone to flicker black sometimes.
Improved Riku’s stalking animation so that his feet are no longer sinking into the ground.
Fixed bug that would cause Kokona’s hair to appear white in the “Befriend” cutscene.
Updated one of Ryuto’s lines so that it matches his written dialogue.
Fixed bug that made male delinquents’ bodies invisible.
Changed the appearance of the Phantom Girl.
I have a feeling that I fixed more things, but didn’t write them down in the changelog…oops!
The Rival Introduction Video is coming along smoothly. I’d love to focus 100% of my time on the Rival video and get it out soon, but that depends on the number of critical bugs that people are running into. Hopefully this new build runs smoothly, so I can focus on the Rival video!
After a long, long wait, the Matchmaking elimination method is finally implemented! You can learn all about it here:
Here’s a full list of everything that is new in this build:
General Improvements
Fixed bug that would cause Kokona to stop walking towards the bathroom if she noticed Yandere-chan doing something suspicious on the way there.
Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan’s mask to become splattered with blood if she was wearing a mask while tranquilizing another student.
Fixed bug that would allow the player to instruct students to go distract someone who was naked / bathing.
Fixed bug that caused Midori to continue sending text messages even after she had just witnessed murder.
Fixed bug that would cause the player to hear the sound of fire when a mind-broken slave was spawning.
Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan’s hair to turn invisible while getting a Game Over.
Fixed graphical bug with Yandere-chan’s “twin drills” hairstyle.
Fixed bug that would cause “Evil” students to call the police.
Gave the nurse a more gentle face.
Gave Oka Ruto a new choker.
Improved the model for the hill that the mythical tree stands on top of, and moved the hill.
Improved the sound of the piano in the Light Music Club.
Added a static effect to the screen when the player attempts to run out of the school grounds.
Added a corridor of cherry trees outside of the school.
Added Tasks for Pippi, Ryuto, and Kokona’s suitor.
Matchmaking-Related
Made it possible to learn 5 of Kokona’s likes and 5 of Kokona’s dislikes.
Selected a “suitor” for Kokona (he can be seen gazing longingly at Kokona).
Added a “Love” option to the dialogue wheel. This option only appears if Yandere-chan has befriended the character she is speaking to. This option currently only works for Kokona and her suitor.
If the player uses the “Love” option to correctly identify a character’s crush, then the Love option can be used to open a menu of three other Love-related options.
The player can use the Love menu to make a suitor change his appearance.
The player can use the Love menu to give a suitor a gift to give to the girl he has a crush on.
The player can use the Follow Me command to lead the suitor to the library so raise his Intelligence stat.
The player can now purchase a wireless headset and a wireless earpiece from Info-chan.
The player can use the Love menu to instruct the current rival to go somewhere to meet someone special.
The player can use the Love menu to instruct a suitor to go talk to the current rival.
Once the rival and the suitor are alone together, the player can use the wireless headset to give instructions to the suitor as he speaks to the rival. This opens up a dating minigame.
If the player is able to raise the rival’s Affection Meter to 100% before 5:00 PM on Friday, the rival will put a love letter into her suitor’s locker that will cause them to go to the cherry tree outside of school.
If the player approaches the rival and the suitor while they are under the mythical cherry tree, the player will see a cutscene where the two students confess their love for one another.
After the suitor and the rival have entered a relationship, the player can see them walk into school while holding hands and also see them cuddling at lunchtime.
What’s next?
As I mentioned at the end of the Matchmaking video, my next priority is going to be the Rival Introduction video. Here’s what still needs to be done:
Re-render some of the 3D footage
Review all voice actress’ takes and select the best ones
Ask the composer to adjust the volume / mix of the background music so it doesn’t drown out the girls’ voices
Slightly adjust some of the video’s timing to sync up with the music perfectly
Give the finished video to an effects specialist who is going to help me with motion blur, color correction, and other fancy stuff like that
(I’m also second-guessing some of the decisions that I made with the rivals and with the video. There is a small chance that the video could be slightly delayed if I decide to change some of those things.)
In a best-case scenario, the rival video will be out in less than 48 hours, but in a worst-case scenario, it might take about a week to take care of everything named above (if I have to keep asking actresses for new takes, or if the composer / specialist have very little time to work on this project).
As always, thank you very much for following the development of Yandere Simulator!
1:00 AM (PST) Edit:The video is done. The build is being uploaded now. It’ll take about 30 minutes.
For every day that the matchmaking update continues to be delayed, I’ll post a preview of what you can expect to see in the next build of the game! …well, that was the plan, at least. Tonight, I think it would be better for me to spend my time working on the Matchmaking video so that it can come out as soon as possible.
I’ve recorded 12 minutes and 45 seconds of narration, and I have currently created 10 minutes and 6 seconds of footage. In other words, the video is currently 80% complete. I estimate that it’ll be done within the next 3 hours. After that, I’ll do one last check for bugs in the latest build, and then I’ll upload the build and the video. (Please keep in mind that it can take up to an hour to upload a build of the game.)
In short, the Matchmaking build is now somewhere between 3 and 5 hours away (as long as nothing unexpected pops up)! Once again, I’m sorry that it has taken me so long to prepare it!
For every day that the matchmaking update continues to be delayed, I’ll post a preview of what you can expect to see in the next build of the game. Today’s preview is about cute, lovey-dovey couples!
Here’s a screenshot of Kokona and a student who represents the boy she has developed feelings for. The boy, who just found a note in his locker beckoning him to the cherry tree behind the school, is catching his breath after running to the cherry tree at top speed. Kokona, whose heart is beating quickly, is mentally preparing herself for her imminent confession.
Here’s a screenshot of Kokona and her new boyfriend holding hands as they walk to school together.
Here’s a screenshot of Kokona and her new boyfriend cuddling together at lunchtime.
Uh-oh! I’m running out of content to take screenshots of! Fortunately, I doubt that I’ll have to delay the next build much longer. As of today, I have finally finished implementing the Matchmaking feature (although I am sure that I will add improvements in subsequent weeks) and I’m currently working on a video that covers everything you need to know about the latest elimination method. This is going to be a long video – over 10 minutes long, I think! Creating a video usually takes 1 hour per minute of footage – in other words, it’ll take me over 10 hours to create this video, so it definitely won’t be ready tonight. I hope that it’ll be ready within the next 27 hours. We are DEFINITELY less than 48 hours away from the next build, unless something totally unexpected pops up.
Once again, thank you very much for your patience while I’ve been preparing this build!
For every day that the matchmaking update continues to be delayed, I’ll post a preview of what you can expect to see in the next build of the game. Today, I’ll announce that the next build of the game will feature three new Tasks!
“Tasks” are like sidequests that result in a student becoming your friend. Making friends is essential to the Matchmaking elimination method. Here are the three students who will offer new tasks in the next build of the game:
Wait – who’s that last student? Is he new? Nope, that’s a student who currently exists in the game…I’ve changed up his appearance to hide his identity, because part of the Matchmaking elimination method is figuring out exactly who you need to befriend in order to accomplish your goals, so I thought it would be more interesting to keep his identity a secret for now.
The Matchmaking elimination method is about 90% ready! I just need to add one or two minor things, test for bugs, make the video, and then I should be ready to upload the build! It’ll probably be ready within 48 hours! (I hope!)
