Even though I’m supposed to be on vacation, I suddenly felt a burning desire to work on Yandere Sim, so I fixed a bunch of bugs, and now a new build of the game is available for you!

Scroll down past this absolutely amazing artwork by the super-talented Pikokko to read a list of everything that is new in the latest build of the game!

Change Log

  • Fixed bug that would cause certain variables (the player’s club, the player’s stats, the status of various tasks) to not be reset when retrying or replaying a mission.
  • The player now begins Mission Mode with “1” in all stats (meaning that it is now possible to carry corpses in Mission Mode without joining the Gaming Club).
  • Fixed bug that made the game fail to recognize that a corpse had been incinerated if the corpse was dismembered before being incinerated. (Sorry, Jay…)
  • Fixed bug that was giving very thick black outlines to teachers’ glasses, causing them to look as though they were wearing large dark sunglasses.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the cardiograph to appear onscreen at all times, even when the HUD was supposed to be invisible.
  • Fixed bug that made it impossible to complete the “Dispose of murder weapon” objective under some circumstances.
  • Adjusted Mission Mode so that the black-and-red school uniform is the default uniform for that mode.
  • Fixed bug that would make teachers teleport if the player pointed a camera at a teacher’s face.
  • Fixed bug that would allow the player to exit a mission while being chased by a teacher.
  • Gave a new appearance to the Mission Accomplished and Mission Failed screens.
  • You can now press the “z” key to censor panties during Mission Mode.

Okay! Back to my vacation!

…for a few hours, at least, until the urge to work on Yandere Sim strikes me again…

2016 Fan Art Contest

Last year, while I was taking a vacation from working on Yandere Simulator, we had a super-fun fan art contest! There was interest in doing it again, so I’ve decided to hold another fan art contest this year!

Last year, the reason I took a two-week vacation was to play Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, so the contest was Metal Gear Solid-themed. This year, the reason that I’m taking a two-week vacation is because I’m excited for the latest Pokemon game…so my idea for this year is a Pokemon-themed fan art contest!

Pokemon Contest

The idea is to combine Yandere Simulator and Pokemon in some way. I can think of several concepts that might be worth drawing:

  • If Yandere-chan had access to Pokemon, how would she use them to stop her rivals / capture Senpai?
  • What would a Pokemon battle between Yandere-chan and one of her rivals look like?
  • If the cast of Yandere Simulator were Pokemon trainers, what would they look like? (Oka Ruto as a Hex Maniac? The delinquents as members of Team Skull? Mida Rana as a sultry female Pokemon Professor?)

I see a lot of potential with this idea! I am sure that some artists will come up with very creative ideas that I never would have predicted! Just…don’t draw a character with a long neck and say “Look, I drew their Alola Form!” that’s just…not very creative at all.

Nemesis Contest

However, I would totally understand if you’re thinking, “I don’t care about Pokemon! I don’t want to draw something Pokemon-themed!” if that’s the case, I have one alternate choice for you! Instead of drawing Pokemon-themed artwork, you can draw artwork of…Nemesis-chan!

Who is “Nemesis-chan”, you ask? That’s the name I’ve chosen for the “hunter” who I described in my video about Mission Mode. This character is someone who presents a lethal obstacle to the player; she stalks you throughout the school, she will pretend to be a normal student until she is within lethal range, and she will kill you if she gets close enough to you. I feel like the word “Nemesis” describes her perfectly.

I described her as a character whose appearance would be different every time you play a mission, so that you’d never be able to know who she is unless you’re actively checking to see if anyone is stalking you. However, I will confess that I actually do have a mental image for this character! The talented Mulberry generously helped me out by creating an illustration that portrays the way I picture the nemesis in my imagination:

Pale skin, dark curly hair, and haunting red eyes.

I also imagine that she wears a very grim and serious facial expression at all times. Very emotionless and solemn. In almost any situation, she would have the same deadpan look on her face. Maybe her expression might change at the exact moment she stops pretending to be a normal student and goes for the kill. What would her face look like at that point? Predatory determination? Smug satisfaction? Twisted sadism? You’re welcome to decide for yourself!

There might be some sort of “visual clue” that reveals her identity without needing to get too close to her. Maybe she wears black gloves or black socks, unlike anyone else at the school. Or, maybe that would be too obvious. It’s your choice to draw her with a completely plain school uniform, or give her one or two subtle details that set her apart from everyone else.

Because Nemesis-chan’s appearance is not set in stone, you are welcome to draw her with whatever appearance you see fit. You are also welcome to draw her in any kind of scenario that would be appropriate for a nemesis. A few examples would be…

  • Killing Yandere-chan
  • Stalking Yandere-chan
  • Standing over Yandere-chan’s corpse
  • Engaged in an epic battle with Yandere-chan
  • The exact moment she reveals her true nature

Why does she hunt Yandere-chan? Maybe she’s a bodyguard hired to protect Yandere-chan’s target. Maybe she’s a professional assassin-slayer who has legal authorization to use lethal force. Or, perhaps she simply has a personal vendetta against Yandere-chan herself. You are welcome to project your own headcanon onto Nemesis-chan!

(If you’ve ever played Metroid Fusion, recall what it was like to hide from the SA-X. Powerless, vulnerable, doomed…that’s how Nemesis-chan should make you feel!)

Contest Rules

Both contests have the same set of rules:

  1. You must submit your entry via e-mail. My e-mail address is yanderedev@mail.com
  2. You’re allowed to participate in both contests simultaneously.
  3. You’re allowed to submit as many entries as you feel like drawing.
  4. You’re allowed to participate even if you’re a volunteer for the project (but don’t expect special treatment!)
  5. November 30th is the final day that you’re allowed to submit entries. I cannot accept any submissions past November 30th.
  6. You must include the words “Pokemon Contest” or “Nemesis Contest” in your e-mail’s subject line, or else it may be impossible for me to find your entry.

Contest Prizes

I’m thinking of this event as something to do for fun, rather than something to do because you want to win a prize – but, if the winner of the contest wishes, I’d be willing to send them a copy of Pokemon Sun or Pokemon Moon as an award for winning the Pokemon contest!

Over the years, I acquired 15 Steam codes for games that I already own. If the winner of the Nemesis contest wants a prize, I would be willing to let them have any one of these 15 Steam codes. (In short: you get a free Steam game, but you only have 15 options!)

I hope that the community will enjoy this contest!

Thank you for following the vacation of the dude making Yandere Simulator!

November 16th Bug-Fixing Build

For information about the new gameplay mode, Mission Mode, click here!

I’m supposed to be on vacation right now, but there were some bugs in yesterday’s build, and many people were having a lot of difficulty downloading the game, so I’m popping back in to fix the issues! There’s a new Mediafire link available! Also, the game’s official launcher should be working properly now…I hope!

Scroll down below this super-badass render created by cheshire09 to see a list of all of the changes in this new build!

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed bug that would cause a mission to become impossible to complete if the player was given the task of using a syringe to murder their victim.
  • Fixed bug that would cause students to become incapable of exiting the school due to the large columns of the new gate blocking their paths.
  • Expanded the amount of ground that students can walk on so that Students can now enter the Gardening Club or the Hedge Maze.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the player to instantly fail a mission if they changed clothing after killing their target.
  • Fixed bug that was causing a cyan outline to not appear around the Guidance Counselor.
  • Fixed bug that would allow mind-broken slaves to be sent after tranquilized students.
  • Fixed bug that was causing NPCs to not have a verbal reaction to dumbbells.
  • Fixed bug that was causing NPCs to not have a verbal reaction to shovels.
  • Fixed bug that was causing NPCs to not have a verbal reaction to axes.
  • Removed the red outline around stationary NPCs.

A Note About Bug-Reporting

When you’re writing an e-mail to report a bug to me, it would be really, really, really helpful if you would put at least one word in the subject of your e-mail that describes the category your bug belongs to. For example:

  • Launcher Bug
  • Mission Mode Bug
  • Friendship Cutscene Bug

This would be SUPER helpful for me. Thanks!

Now, it’s back to my vacation. Come back on the 18th to hear about the fan art contest that I’m planning!

Mission Mode

11/16 3:00 AM Update: A high number of people have reported difficulty downloading the latest build of the game. I will try to solve the problem as soon as possible!

NOTE: The most recent build of the game is currently only available via the game’s official website / launcher. It is currently not available from Mediafire. Please have patience; hopefully it will be available from Mediafire soon.

The latest build of the game is finally ready! The star feature of this build is a new gameplay mode called “Mission Mode”! Here’s a video that explains everything about it:

The last three times I proposed a new feature for the game, I received a very strong negative response from the fanbase. I really hope that this new gameplay mode won’t be rejected, too. If you don’t like it, please remember that I only spent three days on it, and I don’t have to keep updating it…unless people enjoy it, and really want to see it expand. At the very least, I hope that it gives you something interesting to do while waiting for Osana!

Here’s a list of everything that is new in the latest build of the game:

  • The weapons that were previously placed in front of the school have been re-located to more logical locations.
  • Fixed bug that would cause students’ arms and legs to look strange after disabling “Distant Animations”.
  • Fixed bug that would cause gloves to float in midair after being removed from Yandere-chan’s arms.
  • Darkened the shadow that appears over Yandere-chan’s face when she loses sanity.
  • Made numerous changes to the game’s code in order to improve the framerate.
  • Added debug command for increasing the school’s population to 100.
  • Added new architecture to the locker area of the school.
  • Fixed bug that made ragdolls twitch indefinitely.
  • Added an arch above the entrance of the school.
  • Added debug command for killing all students.
  • Added a new hairstyle for Yandere-chan.
  • Added Mission Mode.
  • It’s possible to change the background music in Mission Mode by pressing the Confirm button over the music icon in the pause screen.

Just in case you were curious to know what the main Culprits of the framerate problem were, the majority of the problem stemmed from these three issues:

  • Many UI elements (windows, numbers, letters) were active / updating even while they were offscreen / invisible. I told them to deactivate when offscreen and only activate when onscreen.
  • Setting a character’s rotation is an expensive operation. I told characters to stop updating their rotations if they are within 1 degree of the direction that they need to be facing.
  • Some scripts were performing calculations when it was not necessary for them to be doing anything. I told them to deactivate when they are not needed.

After making those changes, the framerate shot up to almost 20 FPS higher than it was last week! I’m even seeing 60 FPS under some circumstances (but, to be honest, those are circumstances when very few characters are moving / very few polygons are being shown onscreen).

Vacation Time!

The last time I took a vacation was in September 1 of 2015. I would really like to take some time off! I’m going to spend the next two weeks relaxing instead of working. I’ll still spend time corresponding with various volunteers to make sure that Osana’s development continues moving along, but I will also spend time catching up on all the anime and video games I missed out on in 2015 and 2016.

I always aim to update the game on the 1st and 15th days of every month. Because I’ll be on vacation for the next two weeks, it’s unlikely that the game will receive a huge update on Dec 1st. Maybe a little update…but not a big one. With that said: if any critical bugs are discovered in the latest build of the game, I’ll fix them as soon as possible.

Fan art contest?

Last year, I held a fan art contest while I was on vacation. I’d like to do that again this year! If I decide to go through with it, you’ll hear from me on November 18th. What will the contest be about, you ask? It’ll be a surprise! Just be patient!

As always, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

New Build Coming Soon

I always aim to update the game on the 1st and 15th days of every month, right when the clock strikes midnight (in my time zone – PST). The next build is about 99% ready, but I still need a little more time to put together my next YouTube video. I can’t guarantee that it’ll be ready within the next 3 hours; I think it will probably be finished sometime in the afternoon on November 15th.

To make up for the fact that the new build and video aren’t ready yet, I’d like to share some of the content you can expect to see in the next build of the game:

Sorry for the delay! On the plus side, I had a lot of fun developing the latest content, and I really hope you’re going to enjoy it!

Early November Progress Update

2:45 PM Update: There were a lot of bugs in the builds that I uploaded last night, so I’ve uploaded another new build with several more bug fixes. Scroll down to the bottom of this post to read about all of the new bug fixes.

I’ve got a new progress update video to share with you! However, before I show it to you, I’d like to mention something:

Recently, a lot of people have reported that they are encountering errors when attempting to download the game using the official launcher. I know the cause of the problem, but not the solution to the problem. While the problem exists, the only advice I can give you is to download the game through Mediafire instead of the launcher.

Okay! Now, with that out of the way, here’s a new progress update video!

Here’s a list of everything that is different in the latest build:

12:00 AM Update:

  • Fixed typo in subtitles when Pippi is giving a task to Yandere-chan.
  • Fixed bug that prevented players from posing female characters’ left leg.
  • Fixed bug that would remove students’ stockings when outlines were disabled.
  • Fixed bug that would allow Riku to flirt with Kokona even while she was a charred corpse.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent students from being able to blush when outlines were disabled.
  • Fixed bug that was preventing the “Rainbow 6” from sitting at the table in the Cooking Club.
  • Fixed bug that was preventing Riku, Pippi, and Ryuto’s tasks from appearing in the Task List.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent the “censor panties” option from functioning if outlines were disabled.
  • Added a new option to the Settings menu – the ability to prevent students from animating when distant from Yandere-chan.
  • Made many adjustments and optimizations (both inside the code and outside of the code) in an attempt to improve the game’s framerate.

1:45 AM Update:

  • Fixed bug that would prevent Info-chan from dropping a spare uniform out of her window.
  • Fixed bug that was turning Kokona’s hair silver during the Befriend/Betray cut-scene.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan to permanently freeze if she changed her shoes or her clothing.
  • Fixed bug that would cause corpses to turn invisible if the player was not pointing the camera directly towards the point in space where the corpse died.

2:45 PM Update:

  • Fixed bug that was preventing the “Remove Outlines” feature from working.
  • Fixed bug that was preventing any kind of object from falling out of Info-chan’s window.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent players from being able to pick up bloody clothing after removing it.
  • Fixed bug that was causing girls’ stockings to disappear after changing their shoes at their locker.
  • Fixed bug that was causing many strange issues to occur whenever Yandere-chan became nude or changed into a skintight outfit.
  • Fixed bug that was preventing the “Stop characters from performing animations when very distant from Yandere-chan” feature from working.

And, as always, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

New Build Still Coming Soon

November 4th 12:00 AM Edit: I’m currently uploading the new build. It should be available in 5~10 minutes!

November 3rd 9:00 PM Edit: I think that a new build will be ready within 3 hours! Sorry for the wait, thanks for your patience!

Today, I encountered a puzzling mystery while trying to improve the game’s framerate. I spent a long time investigating the problem and experimenting with many different possible solutions. I was obsessed with trying to solve the riddle…then I looked at the clock, and learned that the entire day had gone by! Now the next build/video will have to be postponed for another day…I’m sorry!

I’d like to share something with you! It’s “Tsubaki”, a fan-made manga based on Yandere Simulator, created by Koumi-Senpai!

It’s a story that focuses on Budo Masuto and Yandere-chan. I really like it, and I think you will, too! Please check it out!

I want to know what will happen next! I hope that Koumi-Senpai will continue the story!
