January 20th Interim Build

I call an update a “bug-fixing build” if the majority of changes are bug fixes. In the latest build, the majority of changes aren’t actually bug fixes, so I’m calling this an “interim build” – it’s a Latin word that translates to “meanwhile”; it’s simply the build I’m releasing between the previous update and the next update. This build has a new easter egg that I’m really proud of, and I’m looking forward to seeing YouTubers have fun with it!

Usually, in my blog posts, I share a fan-made illustration that I’m particularly fond of. This time, I’d like to share some three-dimensional artwork that one of the volunteers made:

And when I say “three dimensional”, I mean that you can click and drag your mouse cursor to rotate it and look at it from any angle! I think it’s super cool; please check it out!

When you’re done with that, click “Keep Reading” to see a list of everything that is new in the latest build!

Jan 17th Bug-Fixing Build

As of now, the winner of the Easter Egg Contest has had their easter egg added to the game! You can now experience “Hunger Mode”!

The current implementation of Hunger Mode is actually quite simple. You can think of this as the “first draft”. Although I’m satisfied with the visuals, I think that the easter egg still needs a bit more depth. I may decide to improve it in the future with better sound effects, new voiced lines, and more powers to unlock by “eating”. I may try to set aside some time to play “Little Nightmares” for further inspiration!

Of course, there are some other changes in this build, too! Primarily bug fixes. To see a list of everything that is different in the latest build, scroll down past this super-artsy illustration by Type-Silber!

I also have something else to mention, but it’s completely unrelated to Yandere Simulator, so I understand if you aren’t interested. I’ll write it in “code” so that you only have to read it if you really care enough to decode it.

January 13th Bug-Fixing Build

Whoops! There were a couple of lame bugs in the last build. The new easter egg didn’t function, and kidnapping was broken. That’s a shame, so I’ve put together a new build where those two issues are resolved, along with a handful of other bug fixes and general improvements. I’ll give you an example:

Recently, I changed Mei Mio’s hairstyle, and received a lot of negative feedback. I had no idea that you guys were so attached to her bun! 21tan even made this emotional artwork in remembrance of the removed bun:

Geez! If it means so much to all of you…then, okay, I’ll bring back her previous hairstyle. If you play the latest build, you’ll see that Mei Mio’s beloved bun is back. Click “Continue Reading” to learn more about the new build!

Student Council Contest Results

At long last, I am finally done reviewing the 535 contest entries that were submitted for the Student Council Contest! This is the part where I’m supposed to proudly announce the winner of the contest, but…

I can’t do it! I can’t possibly pick a winner; there were too many phenomenal entries! To declare one of them “the winner” would feel like an insult to the rest! In my mind, this contest has 15 first-place winners:

With that said…the first-place prize can only go out to one person! I can’t bring myself to declare one person to be the winner, so I need your help! Please vote on this poll and tell me who you think deserves to be crowned the winner of the contest!

Choosing 2nd place is also way too difficult, so instead, I’ll compile a list of every illustration that I would consider “tied for 2nd place”!

Additionally, here are a bunch of other illustrations that I just really, really loved! Click “Continue Reading” to see them all!

Easter Egg Contest Results

I’m here to announce the results of the Easter Egg Contest! I’ll announce the results of the Student Council Contest in the near future.

In total, there were over 215 submissions for the Easter Egg Contest! It took me quite a long time to get through them all! It was extremely hard to pick the winner, because there were so many super-high-quality entries…but after a lot of deliberation, I’ve finally chosen a favorite!

The winner is Lili-Nyklova, who conceived an easter egg inspired by a character named “Six” from a game called “Little Nightmares”! I haven’t actually played the game, but I know that Six is afflicted with a powerful hunger that can drive her to eat living creatures, as you can see in the image above. This ignites my imagination with ideas for how to incorporate that kind of disturbing trait into an easter egg! Additionally, I already have a raincoat model for Yandere-chan; with a few adjustments, it can easily become Six’s trademark raincoat!

Lili’s artwork is amazing, I can easily imagine how to design gameplay around Six’s disturbing condition, and I already have some of the assets I need to implement the easter egg! It was super hard to choose a winner out of all the great submissions I received, but all of the above factors tipped the scales in Lili’s favor; it’s simply the perfect fit for the game!

I’ll begin asking my volunteers for the assets I’ll need in order to implement “Hunger Mode” into the game. Hopefully you’ll see it in the near future!

Of course, there were also numerous other phenomenal submissions that deserve some time in the spotlight! Click “Continue Reading” to see the rest of this blog post, and I’ll show you some of the most outstanding illustrations that were produced for this contest!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!

As of now, the deadline for the 2017 art contests has passed. I was considering extending the deadline past Jan 1st, because I wasn’t sure if there would be many submissions…but in the end, there were over 470 entries for the Student Council contest and over 190 entries for the Easter Egg contest! There was definitely no shortage of submissions, so I won’t need to extend the deadline. The contest is over, and the winners will be announced soon!

EDIT: In the blog post about the Art Contest, I said “January 1st is the final day that you’re allowed to submit entries. I cannot accept any submissions past January 1st.” Because of this, I suppose that the real deadline is actually Jan 2nd. If you’re reading this on Jan 1st, you still have some time to get in your entry!

EDIT 2: If you were working on an entry that was really close to completion when we hit the deadline, you’re welcome to finish it and send it in; it’ll be considered a valid entry for the contest. Just don’t begin illustrating any new entries at this point!

Numerous bugs were discovered and fixed between the last build and today, so I’ve decided to upload a new build with tons of fixes, and a handful of minor additions. But first, I’ll share a bit of artwork with you!

At the end of 2016, YorieOfTheCastle created a fantastic illustration of Yandere-kun for New Year’s! Unfortunately, I forgot to share the image in my January 1st 2017 blog post…but since it’s the start of a new year today, I finally have a good excuse to shine a spotlight on this artwork!

I wonder what he’s drinking. Is it wine, or…another red liquid?
