Debunking Rumors + New Build

Hi! I’m sorry that I’ve gone so long without a blog post. I’ve been really busy over the past few weeks; I’ll tell you all about it.

After I released my “Hate and Shame” video, I received hundreds of e-mails from people who wished to offer me their encouragement! Hearing kind words from hundreds of people has done a great deal to restore my enthusiasm and motivation for this project. Thank you very, very much for your support!

In addition to speaking with fans, I also spent a significant amount of time speaking with lawyers about my legal options and speaking with members of the game industry about what can be done to speed up the game’s development. I’ve also been having interviews with YouTubers and talking with some of my most vocal critics to debunk some of the things they believe about me. Sometimes we see eye-to-eye, and sometimes we don’t, but it feels like every conversation ends with both parties understanding each other a little better. I’ve also been achieving a handful of personal goals, like acquiring the /r/yandere_simulator subreddit, which had become completely overrun by trolls, and has now been restored to a civil environment where fans can discuss the game peacefully without an atmosphere of hate.

In the “Hate and Shame” video, I made it clear that I am always available to debunk false accusations, provide context for screenshots, and correct misinformation. True to my word, I’ve been spending a lot of time responding to people who who have been reaching out to me with various concerns. Dispelling rumors, refuting accusations, and clearing up misunderstandings has consumed the majority of my time over the past 2 weeks, which has led me to realize that I need to find a more efficient way to address the problem.

The Hate and Shame poll tells me that two-thirds of the fanbase only wants me to work on the game, but the remaining third wants me to address the drama. Even if one-third is the minority, that’s still a giant chunk of the fanbase; it would be unacceptable to simply ignore the concerns of an entire third of my audience.

I was originally planning on defending myself in a massive video where I go down a list of every allegation and respond to each one using illustrations and motion graphics. However, I eventually realized that there was a much more efficient way to do it. When you are frequently receiving the same questions over and over, and you’re tired of replying to them, the solution is to create a FAQ – a list of common inquiries, along with their answers. So, instead of creating a debunking video, I’ve decided to simply create a debunking FAQ.

I would like to introduce you to – a webpage dedicated to debunking false accusations, clearing up misunderstandings, and providing my side of the story. This is only the first draft of the webpage; I will probably expand it in the future. If you have any concerns that you feel I have not addressed, please e-mail me, tell me what you want me to account for, and I’ll update the Debunk page accordingly.

Amidst all of the discussions I’ve been having – with fans, with legal advisers, with industry professionals, with critics, with concerned fans – I had very little time to actually work on the game itself. I haven’t worked on any new features over the past two weeks. It’s been one of the most productive months in the game’s history…just not in terms of code.

With that said, I do have a new build prepared. It contains triple the number of bug fixes/changes/additions in a normal Bug-Fixing Build, but you’ll probably be more interested to learn that in this build, I’ve made some significant adjustments to the environment outside of the school.

To read a list of everything that is new or different in the latest build, scroll down past this amazing cosplay creation:

Just think of the sheer amount of time it must have taken to create and arrange all of those photographs! That’s amazing! This was created by the same group of cosplayers who recorded the footage used in the Yandere Simulator Live-Action Trailer. You can find more of their phenomenal work here:

Fixes, Changes, and Additions

  • The music that played upon completion of a mission in Mission Mode was a royalty-free track from the Internet. Although it was legal to use this track in the game, I’ve decided to replace it with a new, original track created specifically for Yandere Simulator. This track was composed by stallod_orch!
  • Fixed bug involving the “Low-Detail Students” feature. There was a bug that would cause the low-detail character model to appear at the location where a student died, instead of appearing at the location of their corpse. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the entire Photography Club to psychically know that you were a murderer if you killed one of their members on a previous day, even with no witnesses present.
  • Fixed bug that allowed the Void Goddess to follow you into the Demon Realm. (She’s not welcome there. She caused a bunch of trouble and the other demons got mad at her.)
  • It is no longer possible to perform the Light Music Club rhythm minigame (or the Martial Arts Club sparring minigame) while the police are on their way to the school.
  • From now on, if Yandere-chan is eavesdropping on a student, the act of eavesdropping will only be suspicious to the person who is having a private conversation.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent a mind-broken Horuda from taking a knife from Yandere-chan, if she was broken through torture instead of broken through bullying.
  • Fixed bug that would cause a Sleuth to exhibit really weird behavior if Yandere-chan asked them to follow her before the Sleuth meeting had taken place.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Cooking Club members’ food trays to disappear from their hands if they reacted to Yandere-chan doing something weird.
  • Fixed bug that caused sleuths to freeze in place after witnessing a murder, if they weren’t in “sleuthing mode” when they witnessed the murder.
  • Fixed bug that prevented Yandere-chan’s text from displaying when apologizing for carrying around cleaning equipment outside of cleaning time.
  • Itachi now uses a different texting animation than other students (he’s a moody character, so he needs a moody-looking animation).
  • Fixed bug that was preventing certain characters from entering their “paranoid” animation when school atmosphere was low.
  • Slightly adjusted the appearance of the Student profile screen; the screen now displays what class a student is in.
  • Fixed bug that would make Yandere-chan perform the “nervous around Senpai” animation at the End-of-Day sequence.
  • Geiju will no longer attempt to enter the Art Club during Cleaning Time if the Art Club has been shut down.
  • Fixed bug in the school gym that would allow Yandere-chan to walk in midair while walking down the stairs.
  • Kokona will no longer try to prepare food in the Cooking Club if the Cooking Club has been shut down.
  • Male victims of a murder-suicide now have voiced lines for when they are being stabbed to death.
  • Fixed bug that caused Yandere-chan to hold a weapon in her hands during the counselor minigame.
  • Fixed bug that would allow Yandere-chan to hold objects in the End-of-Day Results screen.
  • Fixed bug that caused Yandere-chan to be arrested for having red paint on her clothing.
  • Fixed bug that caused “Husk” hair to be invisible when viewed by the Witness Camera.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to soft-lock after the player expelled Kokona.
  • It is now possible to invert the Y-Axis from the pause screen’s “Settings” menu.
  • Gardening Club members now have different-colored watering cans.
  • Replaced the model used in the Shipgirl easter egg.
  • Updated the Basu twin’s portraits.

Changes to School Exterior

  • Shrank the overall size of the environment outside of the school; it has decreased from 250×250 meters to 145×192 meters.
  • Added dirt pathways to the gardening club’s area.
  • The mythical cherry tree is now closer to the school.
  • The gardening club and hedge maze are now closer to the school entrance.
  • The giant oval-shaped running track has been replaced with a straight 100-meter-dash running track.
  • There is now an outdoor eating area on the east side of the school building (mirroring the incinerator area on the west side).
  • Kokona now takes her private Monday morning phone call in the outdoor eating area, instead of taking her call in front of the school.

I anticipate that some features may have broken due to all of these areas being moved around, so please test as many features as possible and tell me if anything is no longer working.

What’s Next?

Now that I feel like I’ve adequately defended myself, fixed a bunch of bugs, and changed a lot of the things that were bothering me about the school exterior, I feel prepared to resume working on the game’s next core feature. I’m most likely going to continue going down the checklist of features necessary to implement Osana; making students react to blood, improving the framerate, adding a save/load system, etc. I doubt that these features will seem especially glamorous, but trust me, it’s all necessary for me to give you a good experience while eliminating Osana.

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. Thank you so much for the debunking! I was a bit worried about the suicidal girl, but your explanation makes a lot of sense. And although I still feel you should make an apology to the owners of the placeholder assets (like the one you did about Nemesis-chan! I think that was a perfect apology), I guess there’s no changing the past.

The sad thing is, I’d seen absolutely every single rumor on the page (other than the rape thing, which was pretty stupid as a rumor). You’ll be happy to find that I only believed+cared about three of them (placeholder assets, harmless criticism and bad coding), two of which were actually true but now we’ve had good explanations. So gremlins aren’t actually that contagious! (some other rumors were also true but from the start it was obvious they had good explanations)

Anyway, I’m actually looking forward for the next features. I’ve wanted a save/load system for literal years, and reacting to blood will make the game more challenging!

    • He still hasn’t addressed that the account which was proven to belong to him was asking help in how to progress in a r*pe play game :/ and the manga be edited for his blog was from a 18+ fan made manga where a girl is r*ped

      • Of course it’s normal, but it’s not normal to use things you have no right to use without the artist’s consent… There would be nothing to apologize for if they were royalty-free. (to clarify, they are no longer in the game, and I still think an apology should be made)

    • It was in the yt documentary exposing him, he knows about the video he addressed someone of the points but not all, the ones he didn’t address were the worst ones too. Considering he’d use the photo from a manga with such disgusting origins, play a game like that, I can’t support him espically since he seems to ignore these points

      • There are a lot of videos like that, but anyway… The pic was explained by Daniela (I don’t go hunting for the origins of every meme I use, so it was probably just a mistake), and while the game was completely disgusting, it was in 2006 so we have no way of knowing if YanDev changed or not. But it definitely gets lumped together with the rest of the “it happened ten years ago” rumors. I agree it’s sickening, though.

  2. Will their ever be more students on the rooftop? It always seems empty now that Mai Waifu is downstairs and because of how big it is.

  3. UR OK!!!!! U came back! On my birthday to! I’m glad ur ok yandere dev and I’m sorry ur so busy if I can help I would be honored to.

  4. Well I’m not a fan of this hate and shame stuff because I think that its overreacting a bit but i still will support the game and hope your doing well in life

  5. That’s the right attitude. Nobody’s perfect, but you’re far from flawed. Honestly, you’ve cleared everything you could, and you shouldn’t give too much importance to “cyber-people” (as Lessig would probably define them) anyway: and even if you are (or were) actually wrong on a few points, it’s still perfectly fine, given that humans cannot be perfect. Imho, the game has been progressing pretty steadily over the last year, it won’t be that long till everything is ready for Osana (that is, the official beta or something like that).

Above all, you’re who you’re, it’s not for a bunch of strangers to decide: keep going on.
And denounce those horrible real-life harassers: prosecutors are there also for these matters.

  6. YandereDev! I found a bug! When I press on the debug commands and I press one of to teleporting to the Gardening Club, I´m actually the teleporting outside of the School! O.O Can fix this? It´s very weird…!

    • I don’t think YandereDev would work on the debug bugs since they’ll be removed when the full thing is released. But I have noticed it too. If it’s fixed then Yay. If not then we’ll have to find other ways around it. 🙂

  7. It’s a good thing that you’re alright! I was worried that you had hit the end of your tether, but it’s great to see you still going strong!

  8. YandereDev, there’s a glitch when you teleport to the gardening club, it teleports you out of bounds and you can’t actually get back in without teleporting again

  9. Ok, but please, YandereDev, please don´t . ever. tell. anyone. to. kill. themselves.
    no. matter. what.
    I think you learned it
but no matter what circumstances, NEVER tell anyone to kill themselves. Seriously

  10. I’m rreally looking forward to students reacting to blod (and weapons, etc.?) It’ll make the game much closer to complete, since we’ll then have a better idea of how the gameplay is doing.

  11. It is good he didn’t debunk this in a video. That would have just drawn attention to this drama again. I think this solution actually helps both sides who voted last time. No more videos about this topic while at the same time giving the answers to anyone that wishes to hear them.

  12. I found a few bugs, you can no longer teleport to the gardening club by pressing ”ctrl” in the debug menu. The gardening club got moved, but you still teleport to the old location. You can also no longer join the gardening club, that’s probably also because it was moved so the game thinks it’s not the right location for the club and it won’t let you talk about the club with Uekiya. There’s also a bug with setting a mindslave to kill a male student. The new voiced lines are amazing, but when the mindslave is finished stabbing the male student to death, she won’t die and she will just freeze with the stabbing animation. If you go near her, you’ll also get covered in blood, so people will think you’re the one who murdered the student. I don’t know if this glitch happens with any mindslave, but it happens to every male student, I used Horuda, so I assume it’s the same with other mindslaves. (I also tortured her, didn’t bully her) I’m not sure if this is a glitch, but if you try to spawn Saki mindslave from the debug menu, it will bring Horuda. And the last bug I found was if you try to start the confession cutscene between Riku and Kokona, the camera will move to the old location of the tree, so you won’t be able to see anything. And when you finish the cutscene, Riku will teleport to the old location of the tree (in the air) and Kokona will stay at the new location. I only started following the game’s development a few months ago, but it has already had so many improvements since then. I really can’t wait for Osana, and the work you’re able to accomplish in such little time is amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing, YanDev! We’ll always support you! ❤

    • OOPS, I forgot to mention that there’s another bug I found. This one was in the game a long time ago, so it’s not from the build, but it still isn’t fixed so I thought I should let you know. You can’t drop dumbbells on Kokona anymore, in the old location it was impossible for them to even fall on Kokona, because they would always hit the school wall and fall away from Kokona, but in the new location of her phone call they actually go through her, they land on her body but nothing happens and she doesn’t die. That’s all. ❤

  13. You still haven’t addressed the ss showing you asking for help in how to progress in a r*pe play game, and the fact that the manga you used and edited for one of your emails used an imagine from a fan made manga where a young girl from an anime, is brutally r*ped by older men.

      • He knows about the points he addressed some of the points made in the same video that exposed him but decided to leave these points……..he even acknowledged the video and said he had watched it

  14. I am glad you spent extra time working on the debug page and the other changes instead of having to rush to get them out. I do have to say that for some reason my launcher does not say that I can update the game. I know for a fact that most other people have got the update but for some reason I cant.

  15. I don’t see why there shouldn’t be a rape feature in the game, now that I read about it on the debunk page. However, I’d assume Yandere-Chan wants her first time to be with Senpai, so she wouldn’t be the one doing the raping.

I’m also concerned that the Hate and Shame and the debunking page will only give the Gremlins more shit to say about you, with their own spin on it. I would’ve just blocked the people who were sending animal abuse pictures, and if I ever get successful enough as a content creator I’d use a VPN so no one could trace or dox me (you probably know more about all that stuff than I do, though, so whether or not a VPN would actually help you, I’m not sure.)

  16. Okay dude, dude,
Do you actually get what polls are for ?
You make a poll when you want your fanbase’s opinion,
You don’t make a poll to simply just ignore what people wanted and do whatever the heck you want
I know you’ll never see this on your high pedestal of fame and whatever but just dude, this is so stupid

    • 1) I’m tired cuz it’s 12:48 am and y am I still up
      2) people who had the least votes had pretty good points however, yandere dev just put a debunk tab for yandere simulator, not a video. He said he was gonna make a final video to finish off all the drama if the other poll had the most points ( the no poll ) so technically he isn’t doing the other poll.

    • He did mention that it would be irresponsible to ignore the concerns of one-third of the fanbase. Personally, I think that it was a smart move to do this. It appeals to what everyone wants by addressing the concerns of the fanbase in a quick way that allows him to get back to making his game. Everyone “should” win.

  17. YandereDev YandereDev! The update option didn’t show up on the game when I went to play it but I saw Bijuu Mike’s video that showed there was an update. I saw other people also had this problem. I’m confused on why this is.

  18. YandereDev! YandereDev!
What exactly did the Void Goddess do to be not welcomed there? Will it be explained is a future update?

  19. I noticed a while back there was some drama about you (Yandere Dev) and I hadn’t thought about it till now, on this day in particular. I didn’t follow the news because I thought it was just a “Hate Mob” and none of it was true even though I had no context whatsoever. Onto the story; I got a bit curious today and I decided to look at your Dev Blog for the first time in 2 years and I’m happy I did. Even though I had no idea whatever went on, I still feel like you have justified yourself and beyond that. That is all I want to say.

  20. I think this is a bug. Whenever it hit Lunch time and the cooking club members try to give food to other, they just get stucked along with the student they try to give the food.

    • If he takes a break then he’s gonna get harassed and get called lazy + if he took a break this whole time then majority of the ppl in the game would be slightly disappointed

  22. I’m so happy you’re back! I wanted to send an email but I don’t want to be a Midori haha. But really, it’s great to see you working on the game and adressing the rumors about you. Keep up the amazing work! We’re proud of you 🙂

  23. I’m so glad you cleared those things up; you may have seen my comment on “Hate and Shame” (My YouTube is Cat Boi). I was nervous that you had done some of the things people said you did, and because those things have happened to me, I was afraid that someone I idolized as a programmer had done the same thing; leading me to attempt to “expose” you for things you never did (I didn’t get far at all, please don’t worry). I wish you all the best in both the game and life!~ (/owo)/

    Also, idea: floating T-pose mode.

  24. Heya YandereDev, good work with all that, it must have been really stressful. Just want to say that there will surely be more stuffs people want to adress but don’t be overwhelmed alright? And updating Debunk page with things you think should be addressed.
Please keep your life healthy, do some indoor gym work (CUZ WE’RE THE BROS) and keep your mind light with your fans words. You’re a strong dude, don’t back down. ^^
We will wait for your future updates. Gambatte Devpai~!

  25. I feel this is definitely a good call on your part. I may not be bothered by the drama, but I can definitely understand your reason for explaining, because you are right. A third of the community may be a minority, but it is still a pretty big minority. Honestly, if I were in your situation, I prolly would have done the same thing.
