August 2nd Bug-Fixing Build

There are some bugs that don’t cause critical problems, but are reported very, very frequently. Today, I’m fixing some of those bugs, because it’ll reduce the number of bug reports I receive. (And there’s also a couple of critical bug fixes in this new build, too!)

Normally, this is the part of the blog post where I’d take a moment to share some super-awesome fan art…but today, I’m so excited about something that I just have to share it with you!

As of today, the photograph of Senpai that appears in the Senpai Shrine will reflect the custom appearance that you give to your Senpai in the Senpai Creation Screen! He’ll even be wearing the right school uniform! Check it out:

I’m sorry if you don’t care about this, but…man, I’m just so happy that I finally got this feature to work!!

The same technique that was used for this feature might also be used to make sure that the portraits in the Student Info screen are always accurate. However, I’ll have to do some research before this can be determined for certain.

Anyway, click “Continue Reading” to see a list of everything that is new in the latest build!

  1. Sorry if I’m being annoying, but, can you give as an aproximate date for Osana’s launch? We see you working so much faster with Unity 5 and, with this, I’ve created so much hope that we could play with the first rival really soon. Sorry if I’m bothering you, I’m just a fan really excited for the game.

  2. goddamn-
i’ve been following the development since you made it possible to torture students, and i absolutely cannot wait until the game’s finished!
keep it up ma boi πŸ˜‰

  3. I don’t think Yandere Simulator should have an ability to choose the gender of the main characters or to customize them, since game would have some flaws.
    1. Yan-chan’s mom has black hair and her dad has black hair which wouldn’t make sense if yan-chan had pink hair.
    2. The ability to choose gender is difficult to implement and it’s not needed.
Maybe this is just my opinion, or maybe because one of my favorite games don’t have the ability to customize characters, but i think the game is better without that.

    • Actually, it would make sense if she had pink hair. Her natural hair color could be black, but it’s possible if you customize Yandere-chan’s hair color, she dyed it. But, it’s your opinion. I’m just giving a solution.

    • You can dye your hair, ya know that? Of course, Yan Chan would naturally have black hair, but she could bleach it and dye it other colors. I believe that you SHOULD be able to be Yandere-Kun and have Taeko Yamada in the game, as it gives the player more freedom. If the male rivals end up being in the game too, then great. If you want to play the regular game, without any sort of customization, (no hats, different hairs, personality mirror, meme closet items etc.) then fine. But I really don’t think that that will happen to the final game. I believe the customization will be different from the way it is now, but I don’t think it’ll be removed. If you want to play with no customization, then kindly ask a modder to do that for you, don’t down everyone that wants to customize Yan Chan’s appearance.

  4. I love the amazing progress you’ve been making in the game Yandere Dev! I can’t wait to see what other new things will soon be added to the game! Even if it’s minor!

  5. “The photograph of Senpai in Yandere-chan’s room will now accurately represent the custom Senpai that the player designed.” Yay, finally πŸ˜€

  6. I like this progress! I have a bit of an idea for you though. I am aware of the fact you are not taking suggestions though this is a smart idea and I hope it won’t be a waste of your time.If you want the game to react to the murders. What if, When the teachers are murdered, every week people learn about the murders, that class is without a teacher. Say, Sensei-chan is murdered and people learn of the murder. then the next sensei Is there and is also murdered. maybe for 2 days or 3 at a time, no one is hired to replace that teacher. this would suggest adults are afraid to teach that class because of the murders happening to that one teacher at that one class. Again I apologize if this seems like it was a waste of your time to read but I thought of it watching your examination of Persona 5. It’s simple and repeatable with the right coding.

  7. You know I’ve been following this game for a while not but I never really stopped to look into what makes the story compelling, what drives the character and after a while I came up with an answer.

    It isn’t

To be honest I love the game but even so, the story their making is kinda hard to follow if you really think about it. Ayano is NOT a yandere. We believe she is based on the title and the means but if you look back on every single yandere in anime and other games she does not fit the mold at all.

Now hear me out before you bash because this is just my perception, not a hate on the game itself. I personally love the game, there are just a few things that I need to get off my chest.

Ayano is an emotionless girl who starts to feel emotion when meeting her senpai right? An ok premise to be sure except for one key thing.

    It’s not yandere.

To show you I want to bring up several other yandere characters to make a reference of just to show you all what I mean. I will start with the queen herself. Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki. Now for those who don’t know about Yuno I highly recommend you watch the anime because it is very well made. Anyways, the character Yuno is in love with a boy named Yuki, the protaganist, and she will do anything to keep him safe and get his love. Now I won’t spoil anything but needless to say she has always felt love, happiness, and care for others. There was just some tragedy that turned her into this person. Key fact is that Yuno could already feel emotion before she became as she is. For this reason, her character has been solidified as the queen of yandere for all time. Not a single person has ever come close to showing it other then Yuno. Reminder, the anime is called Mirai Nikki.

The next is Kotonoha Katsura from School Days. Now if you haven’t watched the School Days anime then you are lucky. The protagonist is a total douche but even so Kotonoha is a good example of a yandere character. She is in love the protagonist because he won her heart with kindness and other means. However, it turns out that the protagonist is a douche (had to say it again) and goes with any other girl that will get him off. Instead of ditching him she gets jealous of the other girls and tries to keep him for herself. The anime paints everything pretty badly however the visual novel from what the anime was made from is far more pleasant. Mainly because the protagonist’s douche side can be either the way it is in the anime or a decent guy from start to finish (which he is supposed to be in the beginning.

Now I could go into all the examples but that would take way too long so just check this site out and see what I mean.

Also remember to check out their anime’s so you don’t think I’m saying something stupid. I have watched all of them (regrettably) and I when I compare it to Ayano it just seems she isn’t a yandere. She’s psychotic, sociopathic, psychopathic, and deranged to the point of violence but that itself isn’t a yandere. I love the game but Ayano is not a yandere character, we just think she is because of the idea of her killing anyone to get her love interest and because the title says so. Yandere characters aren’t “hollow” or “emotionless” they’re mentally unstable individuals who cling onto love because it’s what makes them happy. However, they already know what love is and how it feels. They know what sadness is and how it feels, the same for rage, laughter, confusion, and anything else. As sad as it is to say, Yandere Dev’s original story, the very first one, is actually what makes Ayano more of a yandere then now. Now, she’s just a emotionless psychotic monster that so far cannot show empathy and therefor making her character a “blank slate” impossible. That and the fact we haven’t been given a reason for Ayano to do passive things makes her character quite one track, evil and nothing but. The fact that the idea of a yakuza implement makes her character stictly evil, no redeeming qualities. If you read a fanfiction; any fanfiction ever made, you’d see that Ayano is always given some sort of consistent emotion by fans. Everybody pretty much see’s Ayano as a killer but even our imagination revolves around her having more emotion then what the story offers. Think about it.

Now that’s all I have to say. I still love this game and what it has to offer but seeing it as a yandere central premis? Not very much. There are many things that are yandere related naturally but look into every anime, every fanfiction, your own imagination and honestly say to yourself. Is this a yandere? Thank you and remember this is only my opinion and I still love the game.

  8. Yandere (ダンデレ) is a Japanese term for a person who is initially very loving and gentle to someone (or at least innocent) before their devotion becomes destructive in nature, often through violence and/or brutality. The term is derived from the words yanderu (病んでる) meaning a mental or emotional illness, and deredere (γ§γ‚Œγ§γ‚Œ) meaning to show affection. Yandere characters are mentally unstable, and sometimes are incredibly deranged and are not mentally sane, often using extreme violence and/or brutality as an outlet for their emotions.

What makes me think that she is a Yandere, is that, at first, she was gentle and loving with Senpai, until she finds out that Osana wanted Senpai to herself.

Like you said, in every fanfiction, Ayano have emotions. That’s because those fan fiction happens generally after the Senpai encouter.

Being an emotionless person before and being a yandere are not exclusive. So even if she never felt anything before, she can still be a yandere

    • I see where you’re coming from and normally if I didn’t look into it as deep as I did then I would definitely agree with you. However, there are some things that counteract.

For one, Ayano is neither loving or gentle toward her senpai Taro in any way. Toward the end of the video she specifically says that “she needs him” and “that he doesn’t have a choice.” Now every yandere character out there has “genuine” love for their “victims” but simply show it in a brutal and violent manner because of some varying mental illness. Ayano does not show this because she is an emotionless character.

      Let me explain.

The problem with an emotionless character is that it shows that Ayano having no actual love for Taro. Instead she loves what Taro could give her, actual emotion. Her care is not for anyone but herself and Taro is a means to an end. I don’t see her as a yandere, not because she doesn’t kill in the name of her love interest, but because she has no love for interest at all.

I respect your opinion and understand the reasoning, however I simply do not agree. Any body else want to make a comment?

  9. This is great, Yan Dev! However, I just opened the game, and the Senpai I made had a very buggy picture in the shrine, his clothes and face switched colors. Just soes you know! Great Build, keep up the amazing work!
