Two New Features!

Edit: Oops! There was a critical bug in the build that I uploaded this morning; the character would freeze upon dipping a mop into a bucket. I’ve uploaded a new build with the problem fixed. Sorry about that!

Hello! Two new features have been added to Yandere Simulator for the purpose of replacing some gameplay mechanics that simply weren’t any fun at all. Hopefully, you’re going to have a much easier time with certain elimination methods now that these new mechanics have been added.

So, what exactly was added? Well…

It’s complicated, but click Continue Reading to read a looooong blog post that explains everything!

Tripwire Traps

Splashing liquid on students has been one of Yandere Simulator’s core gameplay mechanics for a long time. It’s connected to any elimination method that involves:

  1. Dousing a student in gasoline.
  2. Forcing a student to deviate from their routine and go someplace with few witnesses.
  3. Getting a student to leave their smartphone unattended while they change into dry clothing.

In short, if you want to eliminate a character with fire, rejection, or expulsion, you WILL have to splash liquid on them at some point in time, for one of the above reasons.

For a while, there was a “trip while carrying a bucket of water” mechanic that allowed the player to easily splash water on anyone, anywhere, anytime. Unfortunately, this mechanic was deeply flawed. The problems were:

  1. It was ridiculously overpowered. It was too easy to eliminate a character by just splashing some water on them and then eliminating them with no witnesses as they changed into dry clothing. Making a character deviate from their routine is a valid strategy, but it should require planning and knowledge of a character’s daily schedule, and it shouldn’t be so “free.”
  2. Giving the player the ability to throw water anywhere at any point in time meant that any event between two characters could be instantly interrupted by a sudden bucket of water, which screwed with a lot of scripted story events.
  3. Tripping while carrying a bucket of water should carry a small reputation penalty, and maybe cause students to avoid you when you’re carrying a bucket. But, if you spill a bucket containing something much more suspicious, such as blood or gasoline, you should be identified as a murderer. These kind of conditions significantly complicate a feature that is meant to be straightforward, not complex.

With all of that in mind, I removed the “trip while carrying a bucket of water” mechanic and replaced it with something else: bucket traps.

I gave the player the ability to place a bucket of liquid above a doorway, so that when the door is opened, the liquid will fall on anyone who walks through it. However…

I have always HATED this mechanic. It’s always been frustrating to use, for multiple reasons:

  1. Waiting long periods of time for your target to walk through a door isn’t fun, it’s boring.
  2. Sometimes, another character will walk through the door before your target, which will trigger the bucket trap and ruin your plans.
  3. If you try to use distractions (like giggles) to lure your target through a door, you have to do it from the other side of the closed door, which means that you can’t actually see the person that you’re trying to distract.

(…not to mention the fact that a bucket above a doorway is VERY noticeable, and anyone who sees it should avoid the door or take the bucket down.)

For years, I have been trying to come up with an alternative to the bucket-trap mechanic. A method for splashing water on characters that:

  1. Requires knowledge of your target’s routine, but doesn’t require you to wait extensive amounts of time.
  2. Doesn’t outwardly look like something that should severely damage your reputation.
  3. Logically wouldn’t be spotted by the target before they trigger it.
  4. Doesn’t require your presence in the immediate vicinity.
  5. Makes logical sense inside of a school environment.
  6. Can work anywhere in school, not just in doorways.
  7. Works with every type of liquid, not just water.
  8. Can also be used for electrocution.

…and I think I’ve finally found it.

A tripwire attached to a water cooler.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Use a bucket to fill the water cooler with a liquid of your choice (water, blood, gasoline, or brown paint).
  2. Poke a hole in the water cooler with a sharp object.
  3. Cover the hole with masking tape from the Art Club.
  4. Use a thread from the sewing room to set up a tripwire that will pull the masking tape off of the water cooler if anyone walks by it.

This will cause the water cooler to spray water over anyone who walks in front of it!

Cool, right?

“But, YandereDev, YandereDev!” you might say. “That sounds like a lot of steps! How will I keep track of all that?”

Don’t worry! I tried to make it as convenient as possible. When you’re standing next to a water cooler, a checklist will appear on the left side of the screen and tell you what steps to follow to set up a tripwire trap – exactly like the kidnapping checklist that appears when you’re standing next to the instrument case used for kidnapping.

Convenient, right?

“But, YandereDev, YandereDev! How is this any different from the bucket method? Isn’t it functionally the same thing?”

Nope! There is one very BIG difference that solves all of the problems of the bucket method:

Before you create the trap, you can pick up the water cooler and place it anywhere you want!

This way, you can create a trap practically anywhere, instead of being forced to create traps in doorways. This easily solves the problems described above, as long as you are smart about where you place the trap.

But, as you can tell by the title of this blog post, there is one other new feature that was added to the game today: a car battery.

You can now find a car battery inside the same storage room where the water cooler is located. If the car battery is dropped into a puddle of water, it will cause that puddle to become electrified for a brief moment. If any character is standing in that puddle of water when it becomes electrified, they will be electrocuted and die!

As you can tell by the “Toss” icon that appears when holding this new item, it’s possible to throw the car battery a short distance in front of yourself. This is to let the player place the car battery into a puddle without standing in it. (The protagonist will die if they are standing in a puddle when a car battery touches it.)

By the way, there are two more details I’d like to mention – and they can both be combined together in a particularly interesting way…

  1. When a water cooler sprays out its liquid, it creates three puddles in front of itself.
  2. If two puddles are touching each other, and a car battery is dropped into one of those puddles, the electricity will “jump” from one puddle to the next, electrifying all puddles that are touching.

Do you see where I’m going with this? Let’s revisit that screenshot at the very top of the blog post:

Notice something? Two sets of three puddles. That’s right; you can re-use the tripwire trap an infinite number of times, and it’ll create a set of three puddles each time.

This means that you could create a chain of 100 puddles, drop a car battery into a puddle on one side of the school, and electrocute a student on the opposite side of the school!

Sounds like something from a Looney Tunes cartoon, doesn’t it? It’s goofy, but if the player wipes out their rivals with this silly method, I’ll consider it to be perfectly valid, because it takes time, effort, and skill to arrange that many puddles in a row.

Hmm, I wonder who will be the first person to upload a YouTube video of an electrocution kill that involves a massive puddle chain…

I hope that you’re going to have fun with these two new features! Of course, these two features aren’t the only things that changed in the latest build. All of this stuff changed, too:

Fixes and Changes

  • Certain models are “stored” high in the air above the school. At certain times of day (noon) the sun would cause these models to cast a shadow down to the ground below, resulting in mysterious shadows sliding across the ground. This bug has been fixed.
  • From now on, if the player drops a dead body too close to the entrance of the boy’s locker room, the dead body will teleport in front of the locker room, to prevent a bug where the player would permanently lose the ability to move that body.
  • Added planters to the school rooftop, aligned with the way that doors open, to prevent situations where characters get stuck on doors when trying to pathfind around the rooftop. Also, rooftop doors can now only open outwards, not inwards.
  • Fixed bug that caused female students to walk around school wearing swimsuits if the “Pool’s Closed” sign was placed at the top of the pool stairs while the students were already wearing swimsuits.
  • If a character was squashed by a falling bookcase while holding an item in their hands, that item would not drop, meaning that the player could never retrieve it. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent the game from moving out of the “Choose excuse to give the counselor” phase of the sent-to-counselor sequence, if the player chose to not select any excuse.
  • Fixed bug that caused the police to incorrectly believe that a bloody uniform was present at school if the player washed blood off of a bloody swimsuit by taking a shower.
  • Fixed bug that caused Ryoba to adopt Ayano’s idle/walk animations if she was beaten up by delinquents and then rested in the school infirmary.
  • Fixed bug that caused the “Raibaru breaks Ayano’s arm” sequence to appear blurry if the player was playing with depth-of-field turned on.
  • From now on, any locker that contains a dead body will have an orange outline around it in Yandere Vision, instead of a cyan outline.
  • Fixed bug that would cause an item to become tiny if it was placed into a trash bin and then removed from the trash bin.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to forget that the player had collected the fundoshi panties from school.
  • Fixed bug that caused Ryoba to lose her unique face shape when she put on a martial arts gi in the Art Club.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the “KA-SHING!” sound effect from playing when Raibaru detected an incoming attack.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the player from being able to pick up a can of dropped paint from certain angles.
  • Fixed bug that caused Ryoba to lose her unique face shape when she put on an apron in the Art Club.
  • Fixed bug that would cause students to perform a “texting” animation on their cameras in 1989.
  • Updated the artwork for the bully girls on the official website.

One Last Thing

In addition to everything described above, one other new feature was added to the game today – but I’m not ready to officially announce it yet. It will get its own separate announcement, hopefully in the near future.

  1. This makes way more sense than just dumping a bucket onto someone, and I like it a lot, but I’m sort of wondering how this solves the problem of someone else tripping it before the rival does. Maybe the timeframe of the water spray is lenient enough and I can’t see it right now until I play it, but I feel like there’s still a possibility of someone else tripping the wire three steps ahead of the rival and not having time to set it back up?

I definitely like it a lot, though. No more staking out one particular door!

    • Placing the water cooler where you want instead of being limited to one of the double-doors is supposed to pretty much give you the ability to manipulate the timing so that your target’s first in line, including not having someone so close to the target.

  2. Ok so I came up with this yesterday but I want to share it.
So for the frame for murder method, instead of placing the fingerprinted weapon on the ground in the school.
You could find a school bag around the school (or use the rival’s bag) and place the weapon in there and give it to a student whose fingerprints match the weapon. You could also place contraband in bags and give them to students (or even dismembered limbs lol)
You could also place things like a needle, and a sedative in the bag and frame a student for trying to kidnap.

  3. Yanderedev everytime i dip the mop in the bucket in the girls bathroom by the classrooms on the first floor ayano freezes

  4. I have a question. I know that the female Senpai will be at the end of the final game and that you don’t want to get distracted by forming characters that have nothing to do with the development of the current game, but is there a possibility that the female Senpai will be closer, like in the middle of the game?

  5. My only qualm is that I feel like the battery should be suspicious if Ayano is holding it. Since in the future we may be bringing a lot of items from home that don’t belong at school, I think it would be good to have an apology where this works. (Perhaps instead of the battery being at school, we can choose to take it from a neighbor’s car or maybe even a personal car if Ayano has one.) If you lose reputation, you could simply say in apology “I was bringing this from home to work on something after school. Sorry if I alarmed you!” (Or something like that.)
I think it would also be a good idea that if you’re carrying a bucket within a certain radius of the water cooler, that people don’t think it’s suspicious, as they just assume you’re filling it up now that it’s empty.
These are just suggestions though ^^

  6. This makes killing student council members really easy! As they’re walking through a puddle, you can throw a car battery in, and poof! They’re dead. Ik you aren’t supposed to kill student council members, but it should still be hard, right? Maybe when you toss the battery in as a student council member walks through, the battery is “conveniently broken” or something.

  7. I know it isn’t like me to drop a comment here like this. But, I have found a bug. During the tutorial, after I bagged up Ryoba’s victim, then I went to fill the bucket up with water and some bleach, then it was at that point that Ryoba became…stuck. Like she wouldn’t dip the mop into the bucket. After I bleached the water that’s in the bucket.

    • Just noticed something. Hope this doesn’t seem mean..

1.) People should be suspicious whenever she runs around with the water dispenser. I mean I know I would be staring at them.

2.) I think people should be alarmed whenever they see Ayano tampering with the water dispenser. I did it in front of a bunch of people and they didn’t react to it.

3.) It should require us to level up our strength. Water dispensers, even when empty, are pretty heavy. It doesn’t make sense that I can just pick one up straight away.

4.) People should be more suspicious of me walking around with a car battery unless I am part of the Science Club. I don’t think it should be so easy just to walk up and toss a car battery at my rival.

5.) People should react to seeing me toss the car battery into the water. I did it in front of a group after establishing no one reacted to me tampering with the water dispenser. Ya know .. like the goblin child I am.

6.) I walked into the puddle and I didn’t get shocked from the car battery. I think we should also be able to get wet/dirty/electrocuted/toasted if we are in the way of the trap/step in a puddle. Like you did with the electric wire strip and the water fountain.

Sorry if it seems like too much or a little entitled. Hope you have an awesome day/night!

      • All of these I also agree with and was also thinking of saying, 2 more thing I would add
        1) Water Cooler can only be carried around when empty or with the container removed the machine is already quite heavy and putting a 5 gallon jug of liquid on it adds a LOT more weight to it. Maybe break it up into 2 separate items, the water cooler itself and the 5 gallon jug?

        2) Seeing a water cooler filled with something that’s NOT water is gonna raise a lot of questions. I certainly wouldn’t attempt to drink it without knowing what it is.

      • My thoughts are:

        1. Maybe Ayano should only be able to carry the water cooler if her physical strength is upgraded

        2. Maybe the water cooler bottle should be opaque so nobody can tell what is inside of it.

      • “I walked into the puddle and I didn’t get shocked from the car battery. I think we should also be able to get wet/dirty/electrocuted/toasted if we are in the way of the trap/step in a puddle. Like you did with the electric wire strip and the water fountain.” That feature works fine. The car battery ran out of electricity before you stepped in the puddle.

      • No I mean I was DIRECTLY in it while it was shocking Osana. Like I was standing in it with her.

Because I was curious after realizing characters didn’t react to the water dispenser properly. So I spun in a circle while Osana was being deep fried. Walked in front of the water to see if I could get wet or set on fire. Nope. Completely immune.

Not walking in after the battery was out of juice. Trust me. I have plenty of experience in that area… Don’t ask. Just know it looked wicked awesome.

Anyway sorry for not explaining it properly. 😂😅I have a habit of doing that lolz.

      • Oh! We’re talking about the new water dispenser trap. I am talking about how I actively set the trap in front of a bunch of students and they didn’t even do anything.

I also tested this today in front of Shiromi, a member of the student council, they also did nothing.

The teachers also didn’t stop me from tampering with the water dispenser.

I mean we have students who react to everything else we do. Yet they’re fine with us lugging this giant water dispenser around and rigging said dispenser to shoot water/gasoline/brown paint out.

They also don’t react to us carrying a car battery or throwing the car battery into the water.

Not coming at you or anything and sorry for the info dump. I hope you’re having a wonderful day/night wherever you are! 🤗🤗🤗

  8. Yanderedev I found a bug. Whenever I dip a mop into a bucket in 1980s mode, it freezes. Could u please look into it?

  9. Wow! Yan-dev you really outdid yourself… I was not expecting a new feature added into the game like this! I was walking around and saw the water machine and I was confused and asked myself if that was always there! Lol Good job Yanderedev, can’t wait for more updates!

  10. I agree with what kawaiichan97 I was also thinking of saying, 2 more thing I would add

    • Two thoughts:

      1. Perhaps the player should need 1 level of Physical Education to carry the water cooler, and 2 levels to carry it while it’s full of water.

      2. Perhaps the water cooler container should be opaque so that students don’t actually know what’s inside it as they walk past it.

  11. All of this is so cool but it doesn’t make sense for a car battery to be in a storage closet maybe in the dumpster area would be better

  12. There is something I have noticed. In the journalist’s tapes he said that Ryoba cried at the trial and because of that the court and the whole nation fell in love with her, but that doesn’t happen in the game, she never uses pity to manipulate the judge. Her attitude in the trial is trusting, cunning, confident and malicious, from the description of the tapes I imagined that she would look more innocent, unarmed, fragile, tender and harmless, thus causing everyone to fall for her deception.

    • I noticed that too, but changes happen all the time in writing. So maybe it’ll get reworked in the official release of the game?? Or the court room scene is a placeholder and will accurately match it in the final version??

Either way I’m down for whatever happens.

  13. I feel that if there is now a battery, a new space in the school should be a parking lot next to the entrance with the hedges and trees, more than anything to use things the teachers’ vehicles or steal batteries or a new place where bring the criminals together… I know it’s very strange but since it’s an academy there should be a mechanics workshop I’ve seen workshops like this in several academies, especially if the saikou academy intends to train the best students in all fields, science, art , music and sports

  14. You did a great job Yandere Dev as usual. Yandere Dev I have to report this bug: I have opened and closed all doors near the planters you added today and can walk through the doors.

  15. Overall, I love the idea! My only concern is I do think it’s a little odd that you can just casually fill the tank with blood, gasoline, or brown paint. I mean, wouldn’t students find that really odd/suspicious and get rid of it or report it? Water? Sure. Pretty normal. Green stuff? Maybe lemonade. But some red or brown liquid just chilling in the water cooler? It’s just too out of place.

    • If you ask me, it feels really unnatural. If you think of yourself at an actual school, while planning a murder, wouldn’t carrying a water cooler seem really unviable for the amount of attention it would call? If you got caught once, it would feel really awkward later. Unless, you were either a janitor or a student counciler.

  16. It would look cool if the water had the same texture as the blood or both liquids got an update because the textures are just flat, they do not match the texture of the water in the pool

  17. how is an entire tripwire hook less visible than a bucket that’s supposed to be on the other-side of a door?

  18. Yandere dev i have a question – in the future You will add more challenges to the game (Kizana challenge, oka challenge, asu challenge etc…)? i think it will be cool to add those challenges to the game to show exactly how the other rivals will be like!

    • i mean it would be cool but it will take a lot of time for it to get to the game and slow down the work for the rivals to be added.

    • It would also make it easier for thieves to just steal the assets and plug it into their own game. I mean have you seen how many YanSim rip offs there are?

Plus we would get bored too easily. Just like with Kokona, Osana, and the Amai challenge.

Not coming at you though! Really, I am not. Hope you have a super wonderful day/night wherever you are! 🤗🤗🤗

  19. Yanderedev there’s actually a bug for the water cooler elimination method whenever I put blood in the cooler and then Osana goes on it and it turns back into water which I think it doesn’t make sense

  20. can i do it on senpai? i’ve been trying to get him wet so that he would change his clothes just like the other male students i hope i can finally do it with this. btw i know that yandere dev reads all the comments if i still can’t succeed with this can you please put this feature on senpai? i mean i know it is a bit perverted but me as well as Ayano would also love to see senpai in gym clothes or swimsuit :3

  21. Извенете но аз нямам новият апдейт докато сички други имат новия апдейт какво да правя?

  22. I’ve got an idea. You should also make people trip over the water (perhaps hitting their head), which will send them to the nurses office for a little bit. The nurse could give the student painkillers which will make them drowsy for the rest of the day. Anyway this is just an idea which I thought would be beneficial for the game.

  23. I have a question. Before adding this new mechanics, we could make traps with blood and paint, but it didn’t give any special effect, everything is exactly the same as with ordinary water. By updating the pouring mechanics, you have kept these features. Are you planning to add a special purpose to dousing with paint and blood? If not, then why leave it in the game?

  24. Does anyone else think this idea is too unnatural?? I mean… You’re telling me no one would notice/care that Ayano is carrying around a whole fucking water cooler?? It’s a little too silly lol

  25. yandere dev there is a bug where I have learnt Osana’s dark secret and task and then I reset the week at the calendar page, she was not fully reset that her information was complete but I can no longer access to her task even thought she was not befriended. There is also a bug where Raibaru is really an obstacle that block my way when I interact with Osana, causing reputation loss. Then she block Osana’s way when she put the bento on her desk, causing this two spining between the desks and ruin her event later. The dialogs audio also broke abruptly when I was on the stairs.

  26. yandere dev
I was dragging the body while sacrificing the item, and then my body was still pulling the sacrifice after being sacrificed by the sacrificial offering, but the air :). can you fix it?

  27. The game automatically skips Sunday on week 2 in both 202X mode and 1989. Also when the player tries to use stink bombs or bang snaps, Ayano/Ryoba throws the item on the ground instead of using it as intended (same function as the car battery)

  28. So Yandere dev, I’ve been thinking about this elimination method you could do to Rivals/Students-

Concept: Adding a hammer to kill them you could smash their heads off if you go to max strength in yandere simulator in general you could just hit them in the heads with them..

Concept 2: Using String to eliminate Rivals/Students you could do this by getting some String and by setting a trap without the water cooler you could easily trip the Rivals/Students, or you could sneak up to a student and tie their legs to trip for a easier elimination to happen.

  29. I have an idea! YanereDev, what if Ayano has a adopted sister named Sato Aya aka Ayani. If you try to kill her she will defend herself like Raiburu and say this line: Don’t try to kill me sis, let’s see what the guidance councilor has to say about this and her profile will be like this:
    Personality: Cooporative and strong
    Crush: Senpai
    Occupation: Student
Strenght: pepper spray ( kinda like the student councils )
    Additional information:
    Ayano’s adopted sister
    and
after Megami is eliminated, Ayano is happy that she can finally HAVE senpai but what she didn”t know is that she will have an 11th rival which is her adopted sister
