Teaser Image #7 and “10 Rivals” Clarification

Hello! I’m here with a new teaser image! This time, it’s a screenshot of the new club that will be coming to the game in the next update:

What do you think the club will be? What do you think that big grey object in the middle of the room is? What do you think you’ll be able to do in this room? I’m interested in hearing your theories!

But, that isn’t the only thing I wanted to share with you today. There’s something important that I think I should clarify. It’ll require a lot of text, so I’ll put it underneath a “Continue Reading” link. Click “Continue Reading” to hear what I’ve got to say.

“10 Rivals Update” Clarification

On June 17th, the day that I began working on the 10 Rivals Update, I wrote a public post on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/future-plans-and-52607859 In this post, I clearly communicated the exact nature of the 10 Rivals Update. This is what I said:

“I’m going to implement a new gameplay mode. In this new mode, you don’t play as Yandere-chan; you play as a completely different protagonist. The star of this mode is a different yandere girl, who has her own 10 rivals to eliminate. The purpose of this mode is to allow people to playtest the experience of eliminating 10 rivals across 10 weeks, so I can gather feedback and criticism.”

(The Patreon post goes into thorough detail, so if you want to gain a deeper understanding, you should really just read the whole Patreon post.)

I decided to keep most of the details of the mode a secret so that it would be a big surprise when it was finally revealed. That is the reason why I often used very vague wording in my progress reports.

When I recently stated that I had “finished the 10th rival,” I was talking about the 10th rival of this new gameplay mode. I was announcing the completion of the new gameplay mode, not the completion of the entire game. (This context is missing from a screenshot that has been getting a lot of attention on Twitter.)

When I first announced Yandere Simulator in 2014, a lot of people got excited to play a game about killing 10 rivals. However, over the next 7 years, instead of focusing exclusively on implementing the rivals, I chose to expand other aspects of the game. This resulted in a lot of people becoming very disappointed in me.

In many ways, the upcoming 10 Rivals Mode is intended to be the Yandere Simulator that you expected when you first heard about the game. Not an amusement park that is constantly updated with new activities; a complete experience with a beginning, a middle, and an end. You start a new game, you do the tutorial, you eliminate 10 rivals over 10 weeks, you watch the ending cutscene, you see the credits roll. It is very elaborate, with a lot of new characters, new environments, and new features. The main character is not named “Yandere-chan”, and the rivals that you will eliminate are not the ones I announced in 2016, but in every other way, it is what you wanted me to deliver when you first got hyped about the game.

Once the 10 Rivals Update has been released, Yandere Simulator will finally offer a “complete” experience; an experience where you kill 10 girls over 10 weeks, and bring a story from its beginning to its conclusion. You will be able to “complete a playthrough of Yandere Simulator” and “play Yandere Simulator from beginning to end.” However, this doesn’t mean that Yandere Simulator will officially be “finished” as soon as the update is released. The game will not qualify as being “done” until I’ve implemented the 10 rivals that I announced in 2016.

By the way! All of the work I did for the 10 Rivals Update is work that needed to be done eventually, anyway. For example, creating a system that allows the player to transition from week to week. Creating a system that changes the characters and circumstances at school depending on what week it is. Et cetera. This is all work that needed to get done, anyway, regardless of whether or not I was creating a side-story where a new yandere girl kills 10 new rivals.

At the end of my most recent video, I described some of the reasons why a lot of people have lost faith in me. I know that I will have to do a lot of work to get that faith back. I had to start somewhere, and so I chose to start by giving people the Yandere Simulator they expected and wanted when they first heard about the game. That’s what 10 Rivals Mode is.

There is a lot more that I could say, but it would spoil the big surprise. The only other thing I’m willing to say at this point in time is this: Once 10 Rivals Mode is released, you’ll never hear me call it “10 Rivals Mode” again, because that’s not what it’s going to be called within the game.

I hope that this post has cleared a lot of things up for you! And remember: When you see a random screenshot on Twitter/Reddit/YouTube, you are never getting the full story. Get your information firsthand, instead of just believing whatever you hear online.

  1. Since 2020 your whole tone has changed! the new features and finishes in the demo made me take a step back and i am so genuinely excited to see what the ten rivals update has in store. i’m glad i kept an open mind because this progress looks fantastic. cheers!

    • Oh, i really wanted to play as yan-chan and the rivals but there’s no problem…
Kinda disappointed 😦 but lets try it and see how it goes

  2. Really excited for the new update!!! So this means we won’t see ayano anymore once the new update is made? Or is “a new yandere-girl” more metaphorical? Should I still get myself an Ayano wig for halloween or better not? XD ❤

  3. Damn, even though it isn’t the update I thought it would be, I am still very excited! I think that the new clubroom is going to be an engineering sort of one, I think that because of the benches, some of them have saws, and also because I had an engineering class back in 8th grade and the benches look just like that! I think the giant grey object in the middle of the room is possibly a tool rack sort of thing (if my theory about it being an engineering sort of club is correct).

  4. Oh, i really wanted to play as yan-chan and the rivals but there’s no problem…
Kinda disappointed 😦 but lets try it and see how it goes

  5. That grey object looks like the newest thing that is on the rooftop
Also, I think that this is a club where you can create stuff? Idk, I can’t really tell lol

  6. I think the thing on the table in the lower left corner looks like an iron, so maybe this is a home economics club? Other than that, the only club I could imagine this as, would be a woodshop club

  7. Waiting for people to get mad over this clarification because they refuse to see the full picture. Whenever people get mad about yandere sim, I bring up the argument that they’re focusing on the cherry atop a sundae. “It took him this long for Osana!” Yes it took him that long because he was making a complete game before rushing in with all the rivals.

I’m a long time supporter, and I’ll continue to be, keep working hard, I’ll always be here yandev. (I’m hoping this is 80’s mode now lol, with Ayano’s mum).

    • I am hoping for 1980’s mode as well.

And ikr? People are so used to getting things when they want them that they get angry at people for working hard. This isn’t the first time a game has taken this long to drop. I have seen bigger games with bigger companies taking this long and longer, yet people only harp on him?? That’s some backwards and toxic logic to follow….

But then again we live in an easily preventable pandemic that’s only perpetuated by stupidity, so what are we expecting??

  8. So is it 1980s mode or is it the normal game even with new characters in place of the old ones? If anyone can help me with this question I will be grateful

  9. Tbh, since I saw your post I expected nothing else. It’s people’s fault for expecting anything else. I once waited 12 YEARS for an indie game to drop. People are so used to getting things done here and now that they forget good projects take time. I respect that you worked hard on the base game before completing Osana.

If you had done the reverse the thrill of finally getting the demo would be lost. It would’ve been stale. It would’ve had the energy of, “Same Osana, different day.”

You actually listen to suggestions, take feedback, and accept criticism. The changes you make show that. People call someone who actually listens to a consumer’s needs a “feature creeper” when it is just a decent creator being decent.

If someone isn’t happy? They go out of their way to destroy the happiness of others. So take that to heart anytime someone spreads misinformation or says something trashy. Your best method of revenge? Be successful and keeping your head held up high.

  10. I’m excited to see the new rivals! Also if there is going to be a new club does that mean there are going to be new students for the club?

  11. Wait a minute!!
Are you saying that in the new update won’t be Amai, Kizana etc…
New rivals with a new protagonist?!
I have to say that is quite disapointed and surely clickbait. 😦

    • However if this is the 1980 mode, then It will be Ok. But I don’t believe that thing cause the final cutscene have diferent endings and we know that the mother of Yandere used a genocide way to eliminate their rivals.

    • I wouldn’t call it clickbait. That post on Patreon is public and viewable for anyone, not just donators. And he stated from the beginning he’s adding 10 rivals, not 9, and he never said he’s adding Amai-Megami. (He used word as “the protagonist” and “rival #1 2 3…).
If you read the Patreon post fully, you shall understand why he’s not adding from Amai-Megami. In short: he needs a budget to add them, and he can’t release them and then changing/updating them like he did with Osana, it won’t be fun. So these new rivals serve as “testing foundation” for Amai-Megami and “added bonus” for players.
I hope my comment will clear things up and make you feel better. 💙

      • Yo’re right, but as the mayority of the people who don’t read the post, people are going to expect Amai and the others. How I said if this is 1980s mode will be incredible, just because is a mode that we don’t reaaly know if are going to be in the final game. But if is something totally original, i will be thinking:
        1. WoW, new rivals and Story thats nice
        2. But why? Why made a full new story and characters that will take more to finish?
Sincerely, I think that 1980s mode is the most posible scenario because the new menu that look like Yakuya and the part of this post where dev said that once the act come out, it wont be called 10 rival mode (cause is going to be 1980s mode).
The reason why I said that was a Clickbait is because the old posts looks like that this is not a new game mode, that is for the original game where Yandere-chan is the protagonist. Even the pictures show the new room, a new mangas and a minigame that does not same new game mode or else.
I completely sure that people will think the same as me when the act cames out and will be a little dissapointed.
However I think that this act will be incredible for the big amount of content and spoilers that come.

  12. It looks like an arcade game. This could be an 80’s version of the gaming club.

Also, thanks for reassuring me that the main game rivals are still happening.

  13. The real questions are:
Why implement a new mode that is everything that we want except for the caracters? Why Yanderedev complicates that much? It would be much more easier to do just what people really want?

    • YanDev is releasing a mode that is what we were initially hyped for. Eliminating 10 rivals across 10 weeks. When I first heard about YanSim this is exactly what I was hyped for. And I’m so happy that I finally get to experience it. Releasing the full game will obviously take much more time because we still have the story, lore, development, and so much more that would be in the full game.

This is basically a test mode that lets us experience what we initially wanted from YanSim but it keeps it detached from the main game and characters so that nothing conflicts.

Many things will probably change after the release and YanDev can get some good feedback to improve the game!

    • Because he wanted to demonstrate that he has everything to put the characters into the game, so he created part of the game that was already meant to be in the final game. However, he lacks better animations, models, voiced lines, since he can’t make those and the funding will be meant for that. The new mode will give everyone an option for the basic gameplay from start to finish for free

  14. Omg I think I know is it 1960s mode when you can play as ayano’s mom bc she has what ayano has and she needed to get rid of 10 rivals. Idk but that’s my guess -🐇

  15. I’m guessing this is going to be 1980’s mode based off the setup and wallpaper:) also, when is it estimated this will be released? I’m excited for some new content in the game!

  16. I don’t want to pressure you, YandereDev, but how long until the full game is finally released? We are all looking forward to it being published. We love your wonderful work and appreciate the time you put into it.

  17. Ehhh Twitter is a cesspool for rubes that easily believe anything.I’m surprised it has any credibility at all at his point. Real OG’s know to come to the blog for the good stuff.
My advice Yandere-Dev? Nobody there is worth talking to so might as well rile them up to get a few laughs. I’s not like they’re gonna like you more anyhow

  18. Oh, well I gotta say I am a little upset the original rivals aren’t the ones going to be released 😟 but I trust you Yandere dev. And the new game mode excites me a bit. I wonder if it’s going to be 1980s mode. Either way I’m still excited for the update.😁😁😁

  19. Can all of this be summed up in one sentence?
Is this update contains official rivals or rivals of another mode?
And sorry for my inappropriate question
Because what you are saying is a bit contradictory

  20. Oh so that’s why in the september first post he said “If you can achieve the S+ Rank, you will be treated to a bonus post-credits cutscene. It’s a small reward, but one that will be of great interest to anyone who is interested in Yandere Simulator’s lore!”. I didn’t get it at first but now it makes perfect sense. I don’t think this is 1980’s mode this is the 10 rivals mode

  21. oh… well that’s a bit disappointing.

still, you’ve made great progress and if 1980’s mode will have this quality, I can’t wait for the actual game!!!! proud of you yandere dev.

  22. I think this is going to be a game that can be bought in town at the game store or a 1980s mode , which explains the menu posted yesterday could be the 1980s mode menu or it could be a game that our protagonist bought in the city store
