March 2020 Progress Report

I’ve got two conundrums:

(1) I want to routinely upload videos to demonstrate that I’m actively working on the game, consistently making solid progress towards my next goal, and regularly improving the game in meaningful ways. However, there are people who will be very disappointed with me if I upload a video about anything other than the release of Osana, and I’m not ready to release Osana yet.

(2) Producing a video can take multiple days away from development time, and right now, I want to focus the majority of my time on development only.

These two things have prevented me from releasing any videos recently. After thinking about it, I came up with a compromise: creating a short, simple, minimalist video, and uploading it with “Unlisted” status so that it can only be viewed by people who have the link. This way, I can provide a progress report to people who want to see what I’ve been doing lately, without notifying millions of subscribers or taking several days away from development.

Most of my videos take several days to produce, but this one was put together in less than 4 hours – writing the script, recording the narration, and editing the footage went by in a flash. Obviously, the production values are far beneath the standards of my usual content, but that’s exactly why it’s an Unlisted video for hardcore fans, instead of a proper video going out to millions of subscribers.

New Phone Theft Mechanic

  • All of Info-chan’s favors (Schemes, Services, Drops) require you to compensate her by doing unethical things for her, such as providing her with panty shots or placing covert listening devices around school for her. I’ve always wanted to provide the player with more ways to earn favors from Info-chan, so that if the player is opposed to the idea of taking panty shots, they have plenty of alternatives.
  • As of the latest build, there is now a new way to earn favors from Info-chan: providing her with stolen phones. Previously, it was only possible to steal a student’s phone during a scripted event (like Kokona’s shower event). It is now possible to steal any female student’s phone when they leave their phone in their locker before taking a shower.
  • When you provide Info-chan with a stolen phone, she installs software on that phone that allows her to remotely access it. Then, she gives the phone back to you so that you can return the stolen phone to its owner by placing the phone on the owner’s desk.
  • With remote access to the student’s phone, Info-chan can learn everything that the student does with her phone, which can provide Info-chan with blackmail over that student.
  • In a future update, perhaps it will become possible to pay Info-chan to gain remote access to a student’s phone. This would create the potential for gameplay mechanics that revolve around impersonating a student by sending text messages from their phone.
  • At the end of the school day, any student who cannot locate their phone will tell the faculty about it. The faculty will check your belongings and expel you if they discover stolen goods in your inventory.

Fixes, Changes, Additions

  • The “Follow Me” feature offers the player a massive advantage, since it can be used to lure a student to a place with no witnesses, or keep a student distracted for multiple hours. To balance the feature, there is now a timer on how long students will follow Yandere-chan – and the timer is linked to your reputation. The lower your reputation is, the less time students will follow you for, and the higher your reputation is, the more time students will follow you for. By default, students will only follow you for 35 seconds. A reputation of -100 will cause students to only follow you for 10 seconds, whereas a reputation of +100 will cause students to follow you for a maximum of 60 seconds.
  • There was a bug where, if you were sent to the Counselor’s office for having blood on your clothing, you could alarm a teacher or council member immediately after exiting the Counselor’s office, and instantly get sent *back* into the Counselor’s office, even though you just walked out of it. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Light Music Club members to play their instruments while running, if the player put a note in that student’s locker to arrange a meeting that is supposed to take place while the Light Music Club member is meant to be playing an instrument.
  • From now on, when exiting the counselor’s office, there is a short “grace period” where students will not be alarmed by you, so that you don’t automatically get in trouble for being bloody without getting a chance to run and change out of your bloody clothing.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan to immediately be accused of stealing and sent to the counselor’s office, if a student council member witnessed Yandere-chan exiting the Counselor’s office after she had been accused of stealing previously in the day.
  • Students will no longer investigate giggles coming from bathrooms, locker rooms, the delinquent’s territory, or the headmaster’s room. This could lead to situations where students were willingly walking into areas where they know they’re not supposed to be.
  • Fixed bug that would cause teachers to ignore Yandere-chan being bloody / carrying a dismembered body part / otherwise looking highly suspicious, while the teacher was guarding something while waiting for the police to arrive.
  • If Yandere-chan is spotted by Senpai and saying “No…wait…” you can now make the sequence go by a bit quicker by pressing the E key (or the A button on controller) to speed it up.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Student Council members to completely ignore you charging straight towards them with a weapon if they were running to inform a teacher about something.
  • Fixed bug that would cause a mission to start from the Mission Mode main menu if the player designed a Multi Mission, backed out of that menu, then tried to enter another menu.
  • As an experiment, windows are transparent in this build. Students can’t see through windows, though. I’m not sure whether or not I will keep things this way or change it back.
  • From now on, if a student council member or teacher sees Yandere-chan fighting with a delinquent, only that character will interfere; other characters will not get involved.
  • From now on, if you complete a mission in Mission Mode, you can access a special screen that will grant you a special role in the Official Yandere Simulator Discord Server!
  • Fixed Mission Mode bug that would cause the “No Witnesses” game over condition to be triggered if a student council member witnessed Yandere-chan fighting a delinquent.
  • Fixed bug that would cause students to become permanently unable to react to Yandere-chan’s behavior if they had reported something to a teacher earlier in the day.
  • Fixed bug that would cause any student with a reason to run somewhere to teleport to Yandere-chan’s location if Yandere-chan was engaged in a struggle at the time.
  • Fixed bug that would cause teachers to freeze in place for a very long time before chasing Yandere-chan, if they witnessed Yandere-chan kill another teacher.
  • Delinquents will no longer damage your reputation with gossip after seeing you commit murder, because they don’t gossip with other students.
  • Improved the animation that plays when Yandere-chan is spotted by Senpai and says “No…wait…” right before the “HEARTBROKEN” screen.
  • Fixed bug with “Six” easter egg that would prevent the eating animation from playing at the correct distance from the victim.
  • The price of Info-chan’s “Send Student Home” favor has increased, due to the huge advantage it can grant the player.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent the “automatically commit murder at low sanity” feature from working as intended.
  • Fixed bug that prevented students from having a memorial service if their death was disguised as a suicide.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the player from being able to attack Otohiko while he was running late to school.
  • The “Camera Filters” easter egg can now apply to the cinematic camera in addition to the gameplay camera.
  • Fixed bug that prevented Nemesis from being able to kill the player while during certain circumstances.
  • Fixed bug that would cause blood trails to spawn in the air after dropping a corpse off the rooftop.
  • Drowning male students will now use a male voice instead of a female voice.
  • After 5 years, there are now props in the basement! Whoa, technology!
  • Fixed bug that would cause the nurse to see through walls.
  • Rivals now have silhouettes in the Student Info menu.
  • Added two new hairstyles for Yandere-chan.
  • Nemesis’ pathfinding has improved.
  • Added one new easter egg.

Hey, didn’t you say…

Yes, 2 weeks ago, I said that the next feature “won’t take 2 full weeks to implement.” And, true to my word, I finished all of the necessary programming work within 2 weeks. However, the feature requires some new animations and voiced lines in order to be complete, and it’s taking longer than expected for those assets to be delivered.

I’ve done all I can do from the programming side, but in order to proceed and complete the feature, I need to wait until I receive those animations and voiced lines.

  1. I am pretty happy about the new update it’s ok not that great but cool
I have to be honest I was, still am a bit disappointed that the game isn’t out yet and that it seems like it will still take a long time (I have been following the development 4 years now)
I really hope that a demo will be out soon…
Also a question I am asking myself will the models always stay like this…cause you said you wanted to change them but when will that be? After you released Osana and the demo or before and wouldn’t take that a huuuuge amount of time cause you have to change and match up everything on another?
If that question and feedback bothers you I am sorry but those are some things which really concern me.
But I am really happy if you do answer and thankful

  2. Even if it wasn’t as elaborate, I still enjoyed the video! Good compromise going forward, hope it will get some of the never satisfied types to back down but don’t expect much. Some people just refuse to be happy about anything.

Very curious about the match-making elimination (come on, dare to make Raibaru the perfect replacement for Senpai!) but having seen the new props in the basement . . . now I’m interested in seeing what new nightmares you’ll add there!

      • Its a Japanese school, the white things on the floor are papers for caligraphy with ink and brushes.

      • True, that.
Once Raibaru was announced and showcased, something along those lines was floating around in my head.

      • Put them together, it just makes sense! It fits perfectly with Raibaru’s personality and since Senpai can be female then, logically, all of the rivals should at least be considered open-minded about same-sex relationships. (Besides, who is other option if not her?)

      • how are you girls playing this game exactly iv’e download so many files and still cant play ;(

  3. i think it would be cool if you could return stolen phones yourself, make up an excuse like “i found it somewhere” and then get positive reputation points for returning it

    • Nah – if you took weird photos with a student’s stolen phone and then returned the phone, students would know it was *you* who put that weird stuff on their phone.

      • Naturally that would be the drawback to returning phones in this way: if you were careless with the phone, they’d know you were the culprit and you’d lose all your reputation and then some. They may also hide their phone next time they have to leave it unattended, so you could never use that student’s phone again.

      • But then if we put weird photos on someone’s phone, will they react to it ? Will we be able to report them just like a rival ?

  4. I prefer the old windows if i’m being truthful! I can’t wait for Osana my brother gets annoyed by me ’cause i talk about her being released soon!

  5. just saw Kubz Scouts new yandere vid, does the new easter egg is a reference of Benisuzume Hoshijiro from Knights of Sidonia?

  6. Awesome update Dev! I like the whole phone theft idea. It’s another way for players to get favors from Info chan without using panty shots. I wonder if you’ll be able to steal the guy’s phones in future updates. Also, I love how you’re making the animations come to life. They look so much better than before. This makes me more excited for when the full game is released. Keep up the good work Yandere Dev!

Also, please stay safe and healthy with the coronavirus around. It’s driving everyone crazy lately. I don’t want you to get sick or anyone else. So everyone please stay safe and let’s hope this passes soon. 😊🙏❤️

    • yandere dev is probably not going to get it, he spends most of his time inside and away from people working on yandere sim

    • I’m assuming the reason we can’t take guys cellphones rn is because Yandere-Chan can’t get into the boys locker room. I’m sure he’ll add more ways to steal cellphones in the future. I’m just glad he added that mechanic, I’m not the biggest fan of taking panty shots, especially since I can’t seem to figure out how to use the camera XD

      • If you’re on keyboard then I might be able to help you. Right click with your mouse, and if you can’t left click while maintaining the right click (like me) you can press the ctrl button !
        Sorry, if you’re on controller then I don’t know…

  7. Wait, you said the next update will be serious… But won’t the next update be on April 1st? Just saying… Anyways thank you for the hard work and keep it up!!❤️

  8. After Osana has been developed, perhaps start thinking about other parts of the game that need editing. The school subjects and club activities for example, and their different levels of bonuses. Or for a bit of fun, other potential jobs for Ayano to do to earn money and other accessories for her to buy in the town.

  9. I think that there should be an indication telling the player where the desk of the phone-stealed student is, since new players have no clue of where an specific character attends to class and which is his desk. And I think some old players (like me) neither.

    • I disagree, I think it should be part of the challenge, having to see in which class the student you wanna steal from is.

      • You can also take a photo of the student, send Info-chan and check in which class is her desk.

  10. I’m looking forward to seeing what SNAP mode is; I mean, it’s probably going to be Yandere-chan snapping mentally. I guess what I mean is, I look forward to seeing what Yandere-chan will do when she snaps. I think she’ll either kidnap Senpai and force him to love her, or she’ll kill Senpai and then commit suicide, so the two can be together in the afterlife.

    • or that she goes entirely crazy, that she kills everyone, also senpai and the teachers, and that NO ONE can stop her, and that she afterwards commits suicide?

    • I think in a way, the others will have their own Raiburu. Like Kizana could have fans around her who are very protective of their idol maybe. Hanako’s would be her overprotective brother. Since Muja is really clumsy, the school has someone with her to make sure she doesn’t make too big a mess or a friend who’s a staff member who also fills that same role. Mida, being a seductress, maybe has a desperate follower of some sort. Other characters may not need it because they are good enough to be their own Raiburu, like Osoro and Megami.
There’s a ton of things that can be done

  11. But how in the world are we going to be able to kidnap a student if the max time limit is only 60 seconds? It takes a long time for the student’s AI to track down and follow the player into the gym in the first place. I think the game is extremely difficult enough with all the student council members, martial artists, teachers and of course, Senpai. I’m really not fond of this change and it makes the game less fun.

    • So just keep making them follow you, and/or wait for them to get to a spot closer to the gym before having them follow you.

  12. Great work as always. I’m so happy your not rushing tbh. You don’t serve a piece of cake before it finished baking and all that. I’m so excited. Eeee

  13. ahhh I’m so excited to finally see Ayano SNAP! It’s good to hear that the feature is working out the way you always imagined. I know how frustrating it is when something just doesn’t look as good on paper as it did in your head, so to speak. Great work as always, yanderedev and I’m looking forward to the big reveal~

  14. The whole getting expelled for stealing a student’s phone one time seems a bit odd, for me in my opinion, its better to make it either a suspension for a day or talk with the guidance. And when the stealing part keeps on and on, then that’s where the expulsion come. 🤷

  15. Hello everyone!

Recently I downloaded the lastest build of Yandere Simulator and the game was very glitchy. The game features themselves are great, and I love them! But for some reason my frame rate is usually at 2-6 FPS, but I see youtubers like Kubz Scouts have an amazing frame rate of 30-60 FPS. I’m using an acer PC for the game, so does anyone know why the game is doing this? Maybe I need a different computer? Thank you!!

    • I’m not saying this game sucks or anything like that but, I don’t think any type of computer will really boost the FPS unless you do something in the settings. Mostly i think Jay has good FPS because he fixed something in the files that helps the FPS.

      • what would you have to do in the settings? And again, the game itself is amazing! I just can’t even really play it because of the frame rate… 🙂

    • I have the shadows turned off, and that really helps believe it or not. It’s not perfect, but it’s less laggy. Just playing around with the settings and adjusting some of the effects really helps, too.

    • Heya ! I have the same problem too (though it gets better when no student is around) Maybe it has something to do with the graphics you choose when you launch the game. If you set the Low Quality ones, you’ll have a higher framerate but the uniforms and buttons (I’m thinking about the delinquent combat minigame) will be blurred. It may also be because the transparent windows have a small impact on it. You should try setting the graphics at low 1/4 or 1/8 textures. I hope it works !

      • I put it at 1/8 textures and that works the best for me now. When I put it at low, the game keeps pausing but I can move at a good frame rate

  16. Yandere Dev! I’m happy about all videos you post and you are going to post. Even if the theme is your favorite things. (ok maybe i have exaggerated) But release Osana when you want! It’s your Game and your Rules and you have your own rhythm for everything but don’t forget your private life and your health! ❤️❤️🍀🍀🌺🌺

  17. Hey, Dunno if you read these often but I wanted to let you know I’ve been seeing ads about a game also named ‘Yandere Simulator’, Dunno if you’re putting ads up or if you even have the name copyrighted, but they are using images and assets from the game which is most likely copyrighted. Just a fyi if you wanted to take them down. (I haven’t clicked any so idk where they lead.)

  18. Yandere dev you posted this on my birthday! The best birthday present ever is knowing that your ok and happier! I am glad to know you feel better and that development is going great! Keep up with that great attitude and your great content!

  19. YandereDev, it’s nice to see you’re improving a lot in the game. I know how bad it’s to be judged by who you are. To me it felt like the situation would never end, but now I just focus on my own happiness.
    Keep going and stay health!

  20. Hello Yandere Dev. I’m not sure on whether you’ll read and/or reply to this, but I just want to warn you about some internet users that still thinks negative about you and your work. Granted, it may be old YouTube videos, but still. I don’t care what they say, your progress is still progressing. To be honest, your accomplishments have inspired me to write some fanfiction of the show Steven Universe, South Park, Pokemon, etc (I tend to get writer’s block, so I make sure I have some mores folder in case…) and submit them. I…haven’t submitted any of them yet. Mostly because I was afraid of what they’ll think and I go back into them to make sure the canon characters are true to the series it originates from…plus spell-check. Maybe that’s what the Fake Fans of Yandere Simulator has forgotten; we’re all human and “To Err is Human”.
Also, with all of this [redacted] virus going around, I hope you’re keeping your health in-check for you and your friends, family, and loved ones.

  21. I think what’s most important is to focus on positive. Filter out any and all negative feedback until you’ve reached the end goal you want. No one’s forcing people to download the sandbox version and it’s been said multiple times that it’s not an official demo, so I don’t understand the hate regardless?? Hypocrites, I guess.

This is a great update. Looking forward to more whenever you’re up to it.

  22. Hey YandereDev,

I just want to ask one thing. Are you going to release the ‘Snap’ feature while the debug is still in use or in the final game?

    Thanks

  23. I was wondering if you frame a student for stealing another students phone, would it lead to an automatic expulsion as well? All of the bags would still be searched, so the student would still receive the tampered phone, but it could be a way to make it so a student would be “suspended” and not come in for the day.

  24. The new animations look soooo nice, keep up the amazing work YandereDev! I just love this game, it’s been over two years since I found Yandere Sim and I’m still hooked ^-^ The amount of work you’ve put into this game really shows, and each update gets better and better. Please stay safe, YandereDev!

  25. Thank you really much yan-dev! you’re making huge improvements as always and i’m exited to see how the finished game turns out! for the windows i think i’t better to leave it as it is. Goodbye yan-dev! ❤

  26. This is probably a really annoying question or im blind and really rude for asking but when do you think the next build will be out because im really excited to see what’s next!

  27. Hey! Sorry if this is a bother, but i have been wondering something for a while. When you randomize students (back when you could). The Students had skin tone the player could not access. Wouldn’t it be easier to add a skin color option like the Hair and Accessories? Yandere simulator doesn’t have that much diversity, and would be cool to have some other then the bully’s since its pretty sad the the only diversity is a set of bullies. I know that to you this is kind of useless, but do you ever plan to give the player the option to have custom skin colors on students? (other then pose mode)

    • The bullies have a fake tan, that’s not their natural skin tone. And also, yandere chan and the other students are Japanese and Japanese people have light skin.

    • Japan doesn’t have much Diversity. There’s only Olive coloured people in Japan.
The bullies are what’s called Gyaru.
Gyaru are a former subculture of Japan where girls dye their hair Blonde, spray their skin Dark and put on excessive make-up or accessories.
There are no Black or White characters in Yandere Simulator. Only Japanese.

Also, pale skin is the beauty standard of Asia.

  28. I can wait to see Osana, especially with the Coronavirus beong a global pandemic now…Everyone stay safe, my state is getting ready for Lockdown, the National Guard might be called soon.

    • Good luck with your state lockdown – mine is pretty much on lockdown, as everything is shutdown except for grocery stores. What a world we live in.

  29. Maybe as in my country in Poland, the English class could be replaced by, for example, the French class. A new teacher could be added who after classes would come to school and teach this language to students who have no routine after the class and return home, for example Kuu Dere, maybe Basu’s sister, of course, the teacher would teach in this class.

    • And that room could be taught by the rival teacher! It all makes sense now! I don’t know, but that could be a possibility.

  30. Hi Yanderedev!
I’ve been thinking about some ideas for the game recently and would like to share with you to find out if those ideas can be added to the game.

(I know these things because of the Internet, so I’m not sure if it’s really true.)

I saw on the internet that in Japanese schools, teachers visit students’ homes to get to know their parents, the family environment and to check possible problems that students face outside school, if this happens in the game and if Ayano has someone at home. in the basement, she may have some problems if the teacher finds out. the game would be more difficult and I know, but the idea is very good if you think about it.

    • Good Idea! But her mother will probably say something( like “It’s just the Tv we have a chill room in the basement and Ayano really likes horror movies {Giggle}” ) so that the Teacher says “Ah ok, sorry for the misunderstanding,…” we need one more addon 😣🤔 But i REALLLYYYY like the idea!🍀🍀🌺You can be proud of yourself❤️❤️🌺 It is kinda to easy to kidnapp people from my perspective. 🤔🙃 But couldn’t you try then to kidnapp the teacher aswell 😉😏🤭isn’t there a Teacher who is a Rival? 🤔🙃
I hope she gave you an idea YandereDev!😇😝

      • In the game, when you become friends with Kokona, Ayano says his parents are overseas so i don’t think that her parents would be in home.
(Sorry if my english is bad,i’m brazilian ;w; )

      • Yeah i know! But they could come back because the teachers is forcing them or something like that and if not she will look for “fake” parents or her grandparents 🤷‍♀️
(For me your english is not bad but I think you say “at home” and not “in home” pls criticize me if I’m incorrect I’m just someone from Austria 🇦🇹 😂🌺😅)

    • The interactive parts (beginning, middle, end) are all 100% finished being programmed. At this point, it’s just a matter of missing animations/voice lines / audio.

      • Best get SNAP mode out once you program in the animations. Even if you don’t have the voiced lines, you can add those in in a future update. It’s something the fans have been waiting on for a long time, and having to read instead of listen to lines won’t make a huge impact on the gameplay

  31. Yandere dev, I think somebody is trying to steal your game or scam us because on YouTube I saw an ad and i clicked on it. It took me to a website with a big red button saying “Play Now” and it looks like a virus if you download it. The website is called gamesnort.com.

  32. i have some suggestions !

after tranquilizing a student and putting in them in that musical instrument case ,,, it says in the end of the day ; Ayano waits until midnight , sneaks into school and returns the musical instrument case that contains the victim she pushes the case back into her house and ties the victim to a chair in the basement , what if there was a cutscene for that or even a mini game ! to make it more challenging and fun !! or when faking a student suicide we should write a convincing suicide note but not with a click , maybe before we fake a suicide we create reasons that makes sense like bullying ! i know they will take so much time to put them in the game … and i understand if you don’t want to put them in the game in the first place , i don’t want to slow the development .. but it would be really cool if those were in the game ! keep up the good work yandere dev !
