Revealing the Identity of the Mysterious Obstacle

It’s finally time to reveal exactly what the “Mysterious Obstacle” is! I hope you’re going to enjoy hearing all about her!

During my trip to Los Angeles last week, I became very, very sick – way too sick to record voiceover narration. Fortunately, the voiceover for this video was actually recorded before I traveled to Los Angeles, so you don’t have to listen to a coughing, sneezing YandereDev talking about the Mysterious Obstacle!

With that said…while I was making this video, I realized that there is some important information I failed to mention. Usually, when I realize this, I simply record some new voiceover and insert it into the video….but that’s not an option this time; my throat is way, way too jacked-up to provide a pleasant narration right now.

So, in order to provide you with the information that I really wish I had communicated in the video, I have to settle for writing out a blog post. Without further ado, here’s what I’d like to say:

“Are you finished working on Raibaru?”

Nope! The point of the video was to reveal the nature of the Mysterious Obstacle and justify her existence from a game design perspective. The point of this video was not to announce the completion of the MO. The good news is that very little work remains to be done; at this point, I only need to implement a handful of miscellaneous conversations between Raibaru and Osana. The MO will reach 100% completion very soon, probably within the next 2 weeks.

“When will you release a build containing Raibaru?”

I’m sorry if this disappoints you, but I won’t release a build containing Raibaru until Osana is finished. As a game mechanic, Raibaru’s existence only has meaning if Osana is present. If Osana is not present, there is no reason for Raibaru to be accessible in the debug sandbox. They are a co-dependent pair; there’s no reason to implement one without the other. In short, you’ll have to wait several months to actually encounter Raibaru in-game.

Yes, you can probably modify the game’s code in order to spawn Raibaru, but if you do this, the Raibaru that you spawn will probably not be an accurate representation of the final Raibaru. If you manage to spawn Raibaru and figure out a way to eliminate her while she’s still a work-in-progress, whatever method you used may be ineffective on the final Raibaru.

“How much more work needs to be done on Osana?”

I’m hesitant to provide a specific percentage or bullet-point list, since it’s possible that I’ll forget about something and remember it next week. At this point in time, the tasks that jump to mind are:

  • Finishing work on Raibaru
  • Implementing Osana’s suitor
  • Implementing Osana’s “Befriend or Betray” side-quest
  • Making sure that none of her pre-existing events have broken since the last time I worked on her
  • Testing absolutely every elimination method and fixing all bugs / exploits / game design flaws that I encounter

Wow – it’s really not a large number of tasks, when I think about it! I’ll update this bullet-point list in the near future if I suddenly remember something important that I forgot about.

There are also a few other questions I’d like to answer pre-emptively. Please click “Continue Reading” to see!

“Is there a new build today?”

I’m sorry, but no. All of the work I’ve been doing recently has been related to Osana, the Mysterious Obstacle, or spoiler-related stuff that I can’t show you. Whenever I export a new build of the game, I disable a lot of stuff from being visible or accessible; all of the stuff I’ve been working on lately falls into that category. Even though I’ve been very busy, I don’t actually have a new build for you today.

“When will you release a new build?”

While I was in the “Pre-Osana Checklist” phase of the game’s development, my focus was on frequently implementing important game mechanics and releasing new builds as regularly as possible. Now that I am in the “Working on Osana” phase of the game’s development, it means that I’m spending all of my time working on stuff that I can’t share with you.

It’s possible that we have left the stage of the game’s development where you can expect me to regularly release new builds with cool features, since the game is nearly feature-complete at this point in time, and now my focus is on Osana. I still intend to release at least one video per month, but it’s hard to say exactly what those videos will be about, since from here on, almost all the work I’ll be doing is spoiler territory.

The next build will be released whenever I’ve compiled at least 10 bug fixes, or 10 additions/changes to the game that are unrelated to Osana.

“There are still unfinished items on the pre-Osana checklist! Save/Load, FPS improvements, and SNAP! What about those?”

I’ll implement save/load after Osana is finished, for the reasons described in this post. I’m tempted to strike “FPS improvements” off the checklist for the reasons mentioned in this post, but as always, I’ll continue doing what I’ve always done: making various miscellaneous improvements here and there, fixing whatever issues I find during the process of developing the game. (I’m planning to upgrade from Unity 2017 to Unity 2018 soon, and there are several reasons why this has a high chance of improving the framerate significantly – let’s hope that it works out!)

Those are all of the things that I wanted to mention! As always, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. A unity upgrade would be great. I think that unity 2018 has a few other features related to pathfinding and low quality models at a distance, though I’m not sure. Nonetheless, it will be a great improvement!

    • OMG LOL I can just imagine a little spoilt brat like you whining endlessly behind the screen just because you think that “the game is too hard!” or “I don’t like the mysterious obstacle!”.You should either:

      1) Stop playing yandere simulator because you can’t respect what yandere dev is trying to do.
      2) GID GUD at the actual game instead of complaining.
      3) Understand that not everything is about you.
      or
      4) Continue whining and sending threats that won’t even mean anything like the little pussy that you are.

Hope you work something out! 😉

      • And stop he’s a f*cking little kid! You need to stop being rude and start paying attention what he’s thinking when you say this he might be suicidal! Can you just stop bullying the poor guy?

      • I don’t think the mc master is 5, what 5 year old spells so good? There probably 15 or 14 ish.
And they put it in all caps 2 be rude.
        I’m on Benjamin’s side sorry.
No one insults yandere devs hard work.
I’m sure you would be upset with this mc master kid if he did the same thing to all of you.

      • He also threaten yandere dev with “or else” which makes me upset to see yandere dev being threatened.

      • I’m not trying to bully this kid, if anything, he is bullying and threatening yandere dev. Judging from previous comments made by him (they are mostly threats and demands to make the game easier, scroll down to look for them), I already know that he’s a kid. No sensible adult would actually write stuff like “I WILL HACK YOUR COMPUTER!” or “MAKE THE GAME FREE OR I’LL DELETE IT!”. I am not trying to give this kid a hard time but his comments aren’t justifiable and are rather rude. I might be biased as I do respect yandere dev’s work but this kid should be giving criticism not blatant threats.

    • Oh, dude, why are you so rude? In my opinion MO is enough cool ’cause it makes gameplay more interesting…
I hope your comment was a joke… (and sorry for mistakes I’m just from Russia so i don’t know english very well ^.^)

    • Hello MC Shithead i just wanted to say that you are a Shithead and you should pobably play something for A LITTLE KID LIKE YOU ARE AND YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR NAME TO MC SHITHEAD

      With anger Marko Plays

      • ARE YOU F*CKING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW STOP BULLYING HIM! BECAUSE HE’S ONLY A KID ALRIGHT?!!! HE MIGHT BE SUICIDAL! And you’re a f*cking b*tch if you ask me cause you’re the little brat here! 😄

      • Well it’s kind not our fault if he’s being a brat online and criticizing a game that a developer has been working on for many years and he’s trying to shit on it because he doesn’t approve of what the developer has done…

    • Sheesh bro calm down YandereDev can do what ever he wants to his game and if you don’t like what he does then leave.

      • I’m sorry, I accidentally sent you the above message.I wanted to send the message above to someone else.

    • Hey, kid, if your under 18 years old then you can’t play that game yet. So don’t watch it either. I don’t try to be rude, but you have to understand, so please, stoo, okay? 🙂

    • If your simply upset about Raibaru because she can stop you from easily winning the game, then your missing the point of the game. The point of Raibaru is to make the game what YandereDev wanted it to be – A stealth game. Her purpose is to make it hard, not easy. If you are really this upset then i don’t believe you are old enough to be playing this game, because it is aimed towards adult audiences. Not children.

    • Raburu is a girl…. and this game has been in development since 2014 when u have waited since 2014 for a game u can wait a few more months.

    • Jesus dude, you should be grateful that Yandere Dev is putting a lot of money and work into Yandere Simulator. He makes the game more harder just so we don’t zoom Straight through the game and try to figure out what to do to Eliminate them. If you don’t appreciate Yandere Dev doing this then maybe you should play some other easy game.

    • Dude can you not? Yandere Dev has been working on this game for the longest time and many of us are proud of him. This is his choice, and I really think Raibaru makes the game more interesting, and tricky in a good way. Tbh It’s your fault if you can’t actually defeat a game 🙂

    • Yandere dev has said it in his old videos

it would be boring if there’s no obstacle to kill osana just by pressing that “F” attack button
he want us to use our brain and i think it would be fun if it’s a little challenging
and also there is a none deadly ending for confess to senpai it looks pretty easy

if you want to play the game so easy so bad then download osana mod without Raibaru (protective chan)
      don’t be spoiled.

  2. WTF with the “indestructible rival”!
The teacher are pussys if Ayane upgrade her streng, but don’t mess with another students like the Student Council or the Rival’s Bodyguards.

  3. Since there isn’t a lot of LGBTQ representation in Yandere Simulator, it would be really cool if Raibaru secretly had a crush on Osana.

It would give Yan-Chan someone to set up with Osana, and give more reason as to why Raibaru is so determined to apprehend Yan-Chan if Osana gets killed.

  4. You made a lot of progress! I can’t wait to find a way to kill rival-Chan but osana will be the final target

    • Other people will be bodyguards for others, like the delinquents to Osoro (they’re not invincible, but there may be other factors that make Osoro more difficult) and Hanako doesn’t need a body guard because Senpai in a way is invincible, and she’s almost always spending time with him.

  5. OH MY GOD !!! This is really very unexpected!!! I apologize for the mistakes, I’m from Russia, but I want to Express my opinion about it. Cool thing is that there is very little left and we will see Osana in the game. I was scared when I saw “mysterious pripyatstvie.” Usually, the teacher (or someone else) just “wringing his hands” Ayano, but I THINK SHE BROKE HER ARM… It’s quite difficult to Express your opinion in another language, but I tried… I don’t know about you, but we in Russia thought that the “mysterious obstacle” would be info-Chan

  6. First here to comment:

YandereDev can you please bring back the old font Futura Condensed Medium in Yandere Simulator…

  7. I’m very happy that you made such progress in the MO, but I also have to say that I’m pretty disappointed in her appearance and her name.. to me, it looks like you didn’t put a lot of efforts for her to be a unique and well developped character…she’s the clone of Rival-chan, which I don’t really understand because she could have some matching accessories with Osana but without being her litteral former appearance, and her name is in my opinion completely unsearched…Raibaru…Rival…meh.. It just gives me the impression that MO is unfinished or muddled, and it’s sad because she’s supposed to be a very important character, not a random NPC or meme.
I absolutely love your game and love your work and it saddens me to write a disappointed message because I’m always happy of what you make for the game but this time I just feel like at least giving Raibaru another name, more researched than a simple japanese sounding transcription of “Rival” and giving her a more researched appearance would be so much better!
Nevermind, thank you anyway for your work, have a nice day Yanderedev! And sorry if my english is uncorrect or weird!

    • He’s had the idea for Raibaru and her looks for a long time, maybe since he changed Osana’s look. Plus in anime shows or anime games, the cute-looking characters have hidden strength, and it would be easy to doubt her and learn that she’s invincible. Maybe changing the name would be good but I dunno, he’s probably had the idea for her name for a while too.

      • Yeah I know but I didn’t mean that by her appearance, I’m talking about the fact that she has the exact same hair model, design since the beginning of the game, and I find it quite sad that she’s just Rival-chan, a meme, who was supposed to be Osana, she’s the litteral 1st appearance of Osana…I’m sorry I can’t explain it very well in English, I hope you get what I want to say!

  8. Hey, may be I know how win against her, Budo won a fight against her so we can manipulate Budo to fight her again and kill her ? (sorry i’m bad in english ^^’)

  9. So awesome!
I do have a question. You posted a question of where is SNAP mode, but didn’t really answer it.
    That’s okay edit it quickly!

I am a little confused though as to why we cannot have a build without Raibaru. I completely understand she’s pretty much nothing without Osana, but I would love to see her at least do more than she is right now. Her walking around is way more interesting than standing beside a tree. It would also be interesting if Budo or Senpai change their behaviour, like Budo blushes when is around her for example.

I also want to break Ayano’s arm more. I would say I’m pretty sick, but breaking an arm is pretty tame for this game.

  10. YandereDev works day in and day out to create and develop this game. If it werent for him, This game would have never happened. And how dare you suggest that YandereDev should delete a brand new character thats currently being developed. And, Your just mad because once you play the game, It would be very hard for your little pea brain to get around Raibaru.

  11. Wait, would it be possible to match budo and raiburu together(cause budo got a crush on raiburu), so raiburu spends time with budo instead of osana? This could make it to where Osana is alone at certain points in the game.

  12. Thank you so much for being so dedicated to the game’s development Yan-Dev! Honestly, seeing how much effort you put into the game and how much you like keeping us on our toes for the next feature to test out is inspiring to aspiring future game developers that may want to take the indie route! Keep up the great work, and rest if you need it! ❤

  13. I’m sorry, if I’m wrong, but… Is that mean, that it will be possible to get rid of Osana by “friendship” with her? Just like with Kokona? I just noticed that itteraction between Osana and Ribaru are similar to Kokona and Saki… almost.
This makes Osana’s special rival for Ayano. Well, it’s funny, that I didn’t appreciate her earlier…
    Good job, Dev! ^^

  14. To be completely honest I think it’s too much to have the whole no talking thing, I can get ignoring music and I can get being hard to kill (though not indestructible, if Yan-Chan can kill budo then she should be able to win a minigame against Ribaru the same) but honestly what kind of person just completely tones out other people when walking beside their friend? What if she had toilet paper on her shoe?

  15. Hello Yan-Dev i hope your game gets even more popular then now and that you be better and if you snezee bless you and of course Have a good day coming from a Serbian fan 😊

  16. Omg this is such a good idea
    if bijuu mike see’s this
look for a comment by someone named
tresvsss they think they know how to beat raibaru

  17. What’s the relationship between Senpai and Ribaru? (Dunno if I spelled that right) Since Osana and Senpai are friends, and Ribaru and Osana are really good friends, are Ribaru and Senpai friends?

  18. Hey YandereDev! I have noticed something in YanSim…
The player can dismember the students, but when they are dismembered they have the school uniform on, even if they wore something different before that. For example the bullies, they have a shorter skirt and some other accessories, but they vanish if they get dismembered.
Hopefully that is necessary enough to you, keep going! ❤

  19. If you could have at least three difficulties (like Normal, Expert and Professional) just like in Hitman, that would be great because not everyone is going to be able to beat the game that easily. YS is proving to be quite difficult at this point, with bullies, student councils, teachers, delinquents, witnesses, the mysterious obstacle and many more. I mean, I’ve played Hitman: Codename 47, Silent Assassin, Contracts and Blood Money yet this game is a whole lot harder than those games. I know it definitely isn’t easy to get away with murder, especially in a public setting like a prestigious high school but it’s a game!

  20. i have an idea! She’s no umbrella right? Sooooo… that means we can burn her!!!
Or, according to her story, we can kidnap prisedent…. (THAT GUY WHO WON DEFEATED HER BACK THAN) and make him kill her!!!
    Smart right?

  21. I hope to someday own a PC or laptop compatible with YanSim so I can play the debug builds! As of now I only have a Chromebook so I cannot play it. You are an amazing developer Yandere Dev!

  22. The name ‘Raibaru’ irks me somehow, I know its just “Rival” pronounced with a japanese accent, but the name doesn’t feel like it belongs to her… Maybe I’m just not used to it yet, after all, Rival-chan was really popular

  23. I love how he inconspicuosly fails to mention SNAP. I love it when people do that (no sarcasm. I would like to learn).

  24. Well now i’m super excited:) Your doing an amazing job YanDev:) Also sorry to hear you got sick
