Debunking Rumors + New Build

Hi! I’m sorry that I’ve gone so long without a blog post. I’ve been really busy over the past few weeks; I’ll tell you all about it.

After I released my “Hate and Shame” video, I received hundreds of e-mails from people who wished to offer me their encouragement! Hearing kind words from hundreds of people has done a great deal to restore my enthusiasm and motivation for this project. Thank you very, very much for your support!

In addition to speaking with fans, I also spent a significant amount of time speaking with lawyers about my legal options and speaking with members of the game industry about what can be done to speed up the game’s development. I’ve also been having interviews with YouTubers and talking with some of my most vocal critics to debunk some of the things they believe about me. Sometimes we see eye-to-eye, and sometimes we don’t, but it feels like every conversation ends with both parties understanding each other a little better. I’ve also been achieving a handful of personal goals, like acquiring the /r/yandere_simulator subreddit, which had become completely overrun by trolls, and has now been restored to a civil environment where fans can discuss the game peacefully without an atmosphere of hate.

In the “Hate and Shame” video, I made it clear that I am always available to debunk false accusations, provide context for screenshots, and correct misinformation. True to my word, I’ve been spending a lot of time responding to people who who have been reaching out to me with various concerns. Dispelling rumors, refuting accusations, and clearing up misunderstandings has consumed the majority of my time over the past 2 weeks, which has led me to realize that I need to find a more efficient way to address the problem.

The Hate and Shame poll tells me that two-thirds of the fanbase only wants me to work on the game, but the remaining third wants me to address the drama. Even if one-third is the minority, that’s still a giant chunk of the fanbase; it would be unacceptable to simply ignore the concerns of an entire third of my audience.

I was originally planning on defending myself in a massive video where I go down a list of every allegation and respond to each one using illustrations and motion graphics. However, I eventually realized that there was a much more efficient way to do it. When you are frequently receiving the same questions over and over, and you’re tired of replying to them, the solution is to create a FAQ – a list of common inquiries, along with their answers. So, instead of creating a debunking video, I’ve decided to simply create a debunking FAQ.

I would like to introduce you to yanderesim.com/debunk – a webpage dedicated to debunking false accusations, clearing up misunderstandings, and providing my side of the story. This is only the first draft of the webpage; I will probably expand it in the future. If you have any concerns that you feel I have not addressed, please e-mail me, tell me what you want me to account for, and I’ll update the Debunk page accordingly.

Amidst all of the discussions I’ve been having – with fans, with legal advisers, with industry professionals, with critics, with concerned fans – I had very little time to actually work on the game itself. I haven’t worked on any new features over the past two weeks. It’s been one of the most productive months in the game’s history…just not in terms of code.

With that said, I do have a new build prepared. It contains triple the number of bug fixes/changes/additions in a normal Bug-Fixing Build, but you’ll probably be more interested to learn that in this build, I’ve made some significant adjustments to the environment outside of the school.

To read a list of everything that is new or different in the latest build, scroll down past this amazing cosplay creation:

Just think of the sheer amount of time it must have taken to create and arrange all of those photographs! That’s amazing! This was created by the same group of cosplayers who recorded the footage used in the Yandere Simulator Live-Action Trailer. Fixes, Changes, and Additions

  • The music that played upon completion of a mission in Mission Mode was a royalty-free track from the Internet. Although it was legal to use this track in the game, I’ve decided to replace it with a new, original track created specifically for Yandere Simulator. This track was composed by stallod_orch!
  • Fixed bug involving the “Low-Detail Students” feature. There was a bug that would cause the low-detail character model to appear at the location where a student died, instead of appearing at the location of their corpse. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the entire Photography Club to psychically know that you were a murderer if you killed one of their members on a previous day, even with no witnesses present.
  • Fixed bug that allowed the Void Goddess to follow you into the Demon Realm. (She’s not welcome there. She caused a bunch of trouble and the other demons got mad at her.)
  • It is no longer possible to perform the Light Music Club rhythm minigame (or the Martial Arts Club sparring minigame) while the police are on their way to the school.
  • From now on, if Yandere-chan is eavesdropping on a student, the act of eavesdropping will only be suspicious to the person who is having a private conversation.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent a mind-broken Horuda from taking a knife from Yandere-chan, if she was broken through torture instead of broken through bullying.
  • Fixed bug that would cause a Sleuth to exhibit really weird behavior if Yandere-chan asked them to follow her before the Sleuth meeting had taken place.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Cooking Club members’ food trays to disappear from their hands if they reacted to Yandere-chan doing something weird.
  • Fixed bug that caused sleuths to freeze in place after witnessing a murder, if they weren’t in “sleuthing mode” when they witnessed the murder.
  • Fixed bug that prevented Yandere-chan’s text from displaying when apologizing for carrying around cleaning equipment outside of cleaning time.
  • Itachi now uses a different texting animation than other students (he’s a moody character, so he needs a moody-looking animation).
  • Fixed bug that was preventing certain characters from entering their “paranoid” animation when school atmosphere was low.
  • Slightly adjusted the appearance of the Student profile screen; the screen now displays what class a student is in.
  • Fixed bug that would make Yandere-chan perform the “nervous around Senpai” animation at the End-of-Day sequence.
  • Geiju will no longer attempt to enter the Art Club during Cleaning Time if the Art Club has been shut down.
  • Fixed bug in the school gym that would allow Yandere-chan to walk in midair while walking down the stairs.
  • Kokona will no longer try to prepare food in the Cooking Club if the Cooking Club has been shut down.
  • Male victims of a murder-suicide now have voiced lines for when they are being stabbed to death.
  • Fixed bug that caused Yandere-chan to hold a weapon in her hands during the counselor minigame.
  • Fixed bug that would allow Yandere-chan to hold objects in the End-of-Day Results screen.
  • Fixed bug that caused Yandere-chan to be arrested for having red paint on her clothing.
  • Fixed bug that caused “Husk” hair to be invisible when viewed by the Witness Camera.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to soft-lock after the player expelled Kokona.
  • It is now possible to invert the Y-Axis from the pause screen’s “Settings” menu.
  • Gardening Club members now have different-colored watering cans.
  • Replaced the model used in the Shipgirl easter egg.
  • Updated the Basu twin’s portraits.

Changes to School Exterior

  • Shrank the overall size of the environment outside of the school; it has decreased from 250×250 meters to 145×192 meters.
  • Added dirt pathways to the gardening club’s area.
  • The mythical cherry tree is now closer to the school.
  • The gardening club and hedge maze are now closer to the school entrance.
  • The giant oval-shaped running track has been replaced with a straight 100-meter-dash running track.
  • There is now an outdoor eating area on the east side of the school building (mirroring the incinerator area on the west side).
  • Kokona now takes her private Monday morning phone call in the outdoor eating area, instead of taking her call in front of the school.

I anticipate that some features may have broken due to all of these areas being moved around, so please test as many features as possible and tell me if anything is no longer working.

What’s Next?

Now that I feel like I’ve adequately defended myself, fixed a bunch of bugs, and changed a lot of the things that were bothering me about the school exterior, I feel prepared to resume working on the game’s next core feature. I’m most likely going to continue going down the checklist of features necessary to implement Osana; making students react to blood, improving the framerate, adding a save/load system, etc. I doubt that these features will seem especially glamorous, but trust me, it’s all necessary for me to give you a good experience while eliminating Osana.

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. I have to say, I want to thank you for clearing things up. I’ve been following your game since 2012 and boy, this has been a roller coaster of drama/emotions! Even though I have been falling out with the game since I felt like nothing new was happening (but I still check this page every day!), I still wish you the best in your development as a dev and as a person.

  2. I have a question about the rivals:
If you eliminate an opponent by rejection, friendship or cupid method, when they finish their week, will they still be at school? Will senpai have some interaction or will they simply disappear? Thank you 🙂

  3. funny thing, most of the complains about you are the same complains about most youtubers and celebrities.
come on haters … can’t you do something a little original for once?

  4. Glad to hear things are getting better! Also your attempt at trying to continue to debunk with the website addition is nice /respectful yet easy way to answer any questions people still have. 🙂 Although.. just saying this out of support I have found a few more videos with people who are still trying their hardest to get at you. Those videos are recent, after your “Hate and Shame” video came out. It would be smart to at this point take legal action. I mean I hope people wouldn’t react negatively to something like that but you need to keep yourself safe.

  5. Just watched your cringey Hate and Shame video and, It’s clear that you don’t seem to understand that most people have no interest in someone saying “please understand” on the internet. Especially when you portray yourself as something you aren’t. No I don’t believe that wasn’t your intent. You would have to be pretty stupid to not notice what you were doing.
Instead, you have to make the ones slandering you look even worse. The so called “gremlins” won’t talk to you directly? Call them out for being bitch-made snakes. Go on a internet bloodsport livestream and ask for it to be open invitation. Don’t be nice, make them out to be what they are. If they still won’t talk to you then their credibility is destroyed as long as you name the people you believe are harassing you.
Alternatively, you ARE in a business situation where the people making money off of slander videos actually CAN be tried in court. You absolutely do have a case if what you say in the video is true.
Another option is to realize your loss in popularity is due to your game being in development for so long, hasn’t shown the progress people are used to (although it should be understandable since you are just one man), as well as slander which is a regular thing in any industry where you expose yourself.
Ultimately, you shouldn’t be motivated by others anyway. You wanted to make this game, so make it.

    • Those kinds of people need to understand that we don’t usually get this kind of early access to a game. Seriously, games like Kingdom Hearts have been in development for a much longer period of time, and the most we see out of those games before release is the playable demo. Having a sandbox build of a game while it’s in development? VERY unusual, and I love it. We can see all the changes as they happen, and it shows how much really goes into making a video game from scratch. It’s not something that just magically happens. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people would rather complain and troll than be patient.

  6. really interesting how you neglected to debunk your hongfire posts about rapelay. if anything, i’d consider that the most important accusation involving rape to debunk; your supposed interest in playing a game where you get to rape girls. maybe shouldve included that one, yandev.

  7. I’ve seen Markiplier play your game YandereDev and it has come a long way. It’s sad to see so many people harassing you. I love watching your update vids and have been excited to see the progress you make with each new vid. As a “one man show” I’m very impressed with how you’ve managed to juggle everything. I hope these words reach you and offer you some comfort. Keep your head held high and remember that you have fans like me cheering you on and backing you up in your corner.

p.s. I’m pretty sure jojo is a grey gremlin. Just ignore his comment.

  8. I had read the debunk page and is very good that you explain yourself, but I just want to say something, as much as I understand that you suffered and want your tormentors to suffer as well, the fact that you let an innocent one get harrased by your fans just because all of you confused that person for a hater is absolutely disgusting… Sorry I don’t want to be rude or to insult but… This is the reason this fanbase has become this filthy and even shitty… Yeah maybe someone will insult me for this but that’s what your fans are… Sorry for saying this Dev, I used to be a fan… I really was… According to one of your post I was a category 2 fan, now I am 3. I’m more disappointed by the shitty fandom than the game itself or by you, because is really a crazy thing the fact they just insult everyone, even the category 1 ones, and that is just not right! I know you ask us to put ourselves in your shoes, so now I’ll ask you the same… Just imagine you are a fan of a game that is developing, you really like that game and only pay attention to the development. So you really don’t know much about the drama of the situation or if any exist, so when you realize such a thing exist and stary hearimg weird things you get shocked and want answers. You express how shocked and concerned you are to other fans to see if they can give you some light to the situation and help you understand or simply expressing yourself in a civil way, they just start to insult you, call you stupid and other names, treat you like some rat-troll or saying you just should shut up and stop being so impatient and dramatic and even using the Trent insult of the time like “heated” or “gremlin” just because you are worried for the Dev and expressing it. And not only is happening to you, now everyone is harassing and insulting one another for the exact same thing, the fandom is now just a big hole of filth of rude people who enjoy harassing others and the Dev just don’t care, and sadly the haters will take advantage of this situation since the fandom itself is helping ruining the Dev’s reputation, but is like they don’t care causing that damage… So yeah… This is huge problem that is happening now… Just wanting to let you know… I don’t hate you Dev but this is a situation that is really disappointing… Just hope the best for you and is cool that finally you said that harassment is wrong…

P.D.: and yeah if someone wants to insult me go ahead! I’m just saying the reality I was seeing about the fandom in this last year…

  9. “Officer, I swear it’s actually just red paint this time!”
“Yeah, right. We’ve heard all of this before, Ayano.”
“It’s not even bloodred! It’s barely too dark to be pink!”

  10. I just want you to let you know that I am immensely happy that you are a little bit better!

Whenever you feel bad, remember that you will always have people who support you, and not only in North America, but also in various parts of the world.

Have a nice xmas, senpai ~

If you have problems, call you personal goblin slayers ;3

  11. I like the FAQ idea wayyyy better because this way you can answer more specific questions that concern a larger group of people. Just making a debunking video without the audience might have resulted in a negative view for more people but an FAQ includes people and what they want to ask so I’m happy you decided to do that instead.

Hoping things get easier for you soon!

  12. Happy New Year, Yandere Dev! And please don’t listen to the haters. Most of your fans know it’s a grueling task to write a major game all by yourself. I’m a developer, myself, and I know that initial code before optimization can be sloppy when you’re just trying out new features. It’s no big deal. The haters have no clue what software development is like.

  13. You’re doing amazing work for your community, I support you! You have no idea how much your game helps people, like me, unwind after a long, stress filled day at work. All I can say is thank you.

  14. But i mean, most of the answers to the problems presented are ‘I was being harassed’. I do understand that it has to be extremely stressful to live this way 24/7, but isn’t it natural to receive opposition when you create something? I agree with the statement that there’s people around that just want to see the world burn, but if he’s gone through this situation for over a year now, shouldn’t he have learned how to cope with it if it’s affecting the game’s development? It actually makes me think that it sounds like excuses. I have huge hopes for this game, following its development since 2014, I find myself rather concerned that we’re not going to get what we hoped for and soon. I wish we had more concrete answers than ‘I was being harassed’, something more solid, i don’t know.
