Over the course of the past 3 years, I’ve established an update schedule – on the 1st and 15th days of every month, I upload a new build and a new YouTube video. Sometimes, I’m a day or two late, because I’m working on a very elaborate video. In fact, my most recent video was 5 days late! But now we’re 5 days past the 15th, and there hasn’t been any sign of activity…so, what’s going on?

While I was producing my previous video, I stopped checking my e-mail so that I could to spend as much time as possible working on the video. Once the video was finally complete, I discovered a mountain of unread e-mails waiting for me. It took me several days to get through them all – and by then, there simply wasn’t enough time to put together a cool build or video for the 15th.
When I realize that a video deadline is a few days away, but I don’t have a new big feature to show off, I try to think of something to make a video about. I might make a video about a feature I’m considering for the game, or talk about the origin of a character, or examine a game that can teach me how to improve Yandere Simulator. I would describe these as “forced” videos; they exist purely because I feel pressured to release videos twice per month – even when I’d rather be working on the game instead.
Many of these “forced” videos receive a very negative response; the LoveSick video is one example. I added “LoveSick Mode” to the game and made a video about it purely because I felt obligated to a maintain the tradition of two videos per month. However, the concept of LoveSick Mode was rejected by a large portion of the fanbase because it represents the opposite of the reason that the game caught your attention in the first place. If I wasn’t forcing myself maintain an arbitrary schedule, I wouldn’t have implemented such a dumb feature and angered the fanbase.
So – why does the two-videos-per-month schedule exist in the first place? It’s a tradition that dates back to 2014, when I first began working on the game. Very early in the game’s development, I posted threads about the game on a message board once per day to talk about my progress and ask for suggestions. Every one of these threads was incredibly popular, often reaching 500 replies in a single night! However, one day, someone warned me that people might eventually get sick of hearing about the game if I made threads about it once per day. They suggested that I should only post about the game once every 2 weeks to prevent people from getting sick of hearing about Yandere Sim. I thought this sounded like very wise advice, so I decided to limit my threads to the 1st and 15th day of every month. This eventually morphed into the tradition of uploading new builds and new videos on the 1st and 15th.
For a long time, it was very easy to meet these deadlines, because there were all sorts of features that I could put into the game very easily in less than 2 weeks. However, at this point in time, there is no more “low-hanging-fruit” – in other words, all of the features that remain to be put into the game require more than 2 weeks of work. This is what has led to a lot of “forced” videos over the past year.
It’s taken me a long time, but I’ve come to realize that these “forced” videos are only hurting the game’s development. These videos take away from development time, introduce concepts that many people aren’t interested in, and usually just wind up making the fanbase angry. It’s a lose-lose for everyone. That’s why I think I should probably abandon the 1st-and-15th schedule that I’ve been using up until now.
From now on, I’d like to upload videos only when I have something significant to show off – not when the date on the calendar reaches an arbitrary number. This might result in less videos being uploaded, but each video would be more significant. Alternatively, videos might actually be uploaded more frequently, but each one would be shorter and would focus on a single subject – just like the really old videos that you can find waaaaay back at the beginning of my channel.
EDIT: But, don’t worry, I could still write a blog post on the 1st or 15th of every month as filler material between videos, and perhaps provide screenshots / teasers of upcoming content!
At this point in time, it’s too early to say how things will turn out – but I hope that this blog post helps you understand why there hasn’t been a new build or video recently, and why things might change in the future.
(On that note, I might actually release a new build very soon, since a lot of bug fixes have piled up recently.)
Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

That’s perfectly fine. Do whatever you feel is best. Don’t feel that you need to act on our impatience. This is your game.
is osana done yet since I want to friken kill her 1000 time
Baka.
Hi Yanderedev!
I’ve been working on a fanfiction lately, and I’d love it if you had time to check it out!
https://littlekittiesbooks.wordpress.com/2017/11/10/first-day-as-a-yandere-full/
Take a break if you need. I’ve always found that when I’m relaxed I work a lot faster!
Love the game so far, keep up the good work,
– Alex ❤
That is really awesome, But their is a ‘few’ mistakes…
For example: The girl shouldn’t feel emotions, yet is ‘angry’ that ayano wont give food for her daughter…
another… Ayano’s name was entered as Ayono, Yanderedev prefers a name with ‘yan’ in it, Ayano was a name that was least used on people so he picked it
Thank you so much for the feedback! I’ll see what I can do to fix my story up.

That’s completely fine Yandere Dev. The fanbase will understand. Well…most of them anyway
Yandere Dev,
I would like to say that you keep up the expectation of the 1st and 15th schedule so we have something to look forward to. Old habits die hard and all that. You don’t even have to make a video or a build. Just post here in the blog on the 1st and 15th like always and tell us when the video/build is coming. Use the 1st date or use both the 1st and 15th date for updates like this then give us the vid next month or something.
In short, keep the update schedule but only for the blog. For the vid and builds take as much time as you need and screw the others who whine about it. However, just please keep the update for blogs. Just some of my thoughts
Thanks,
A true fan
I think you should post something on Twitter regularly(twice a week?). Even just a single word, or a single picture of development, people will have a good impression. Sorry for my poor english, i’m Japanese. Please take care of yourself first, and keep up the good work !
Sorry, I made mistake
Your English is definitely good for a second-language speaker! Don’t worry, I’ve seen people who speak English as their first language with much worse spelling and grammar than you.
Good idea. It’s a real bummer when there’s nothing from yandev posted on the 1st and 15th. Even if it’s just a sentence or a pic, it’s nice to see something!
I think that’s a good idea. Good job for making that decision.

I don’t understand why are you wrote that.
I mean, if we must wait for next build that’s ok, becouse we know why. I’d understand that kind of post when we don’t know what happened that update or video wasn’t made.
i’m fine with you not posing a video or new build every 2 weeks but at the very least i do think you should post something on your blog at least once a week or once every two weeks or somewhere else like twitter every week or so. going completely silent for an undetermined amount of time in my opinion won’t end well. aside from lowering interest in the game it might lead to various undesired emails that you hate so much asking if you are still working on the game. even if it’s just to say you don’t have anything significant to report for the week and sharing some of the amazing fan art, anything is better than complete silence.
I agree with this. Even if it’s just something like “Still working on Yandere Sim, have a good Thanksgiving”. 😉
Devpai plz go take a vacation you’re overworking yourself.
Yeah videos take a lot of time and usually I get excited for them but then I get let down because its not something extremely important or just something minor. If you did blog posts instead that would be cool. They don’t even have to be extremely detailed you could just post some fan art and some stuff about your week
Take as long as you need, YanDev. Heck, even my buddy RickyG, who’s always working on making new builds of his multiplayer Undertale fangame “Don’t Forget”, has to take breaks just to relieve stress. Take all the time in the world: the fanbase can wait.
Don’t stress yourself out over it! I personally enjoy hearing development updates–I love new videos, but lacking a video, I’m happy to see a brief blog post, or maybe even a tweet. I think having a brand new, full-length video every two weeks is less important than just having some sort of mostly-regular update.
Long periods of nothing does make people loose interest. A video every 15th and 1st is a lot, but just a blog post wouldn’t take that long. Maybe with just a teaser or an update on when the next build may come out. Keeps everyone interested.
Yes, I think that is a great idea!
Take your time.
You do not have to spend so much time working on videos and builds, I think the best way to get something done is to just take your time.
Its alright Yandere dev! You do what you want to do, I believe you are doing an amazing job on the game! Keep up the good work!
As long as you work on the YanSim im totally fine with less video, but i hope that will be at least one per mouth
TAKE👏A👏BREAK👏BEFORE👏YOU👏DIE
At first, I was thinking, “That’s a good idea. It would hurt the progress of the game if you force videos out of yourself. You should upload whenever you feel like it.” But then, I started looking at some of these comments. A few people have an idea that you should upload blog, or twitter posts and just give us pictures or teasers on the 1st and 15th and give out an update whenever the build is ready. I think that’s a great idea! You don’t have to give out a new update every two weeks, just give us something to look forward to so we don’t get tired and bored of the game. But. it is your decision. Whatever is best for you. But before you do that, I honestly think you NEED a two-week vacation! Please take one!!! I want you to go out somewhere! Have fun! Get more sleep! Straight up relax… Thank you for being the creator of such an amazing game!
I must say. I Never agreed with comment more!
Might as well pick up a copy of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on your vacation too!
He hate a Question Emails – but he likes a fan art/cosplay emails and there’s also Bug-Reporting Emails. Just Saying.
It’s ok. Just take your time. I won’t rush you. ☺️
Oh, so you didn’t just have a big feature to show off. It’s more than alright lmao.
You don’t necessarily need to kill the 1st and 15th video/update schedule tradition. You can just make a blog post every two weeks just so we know you’re still working on the game or that everything is alright.
Complete silence on those days because you don’t have a new interesting feature to show off doesn’t translate so well at all, a quick “hey guys, sorry but there isn’t enough new interesting content to show off so there’s not going to be a video or/and build yet, here’s a sneak peek/cool fanart though!” was all I (and probably everyone else) needed.
I hope the game in 2020 will come out or sooner this pace will have to wait a long time.
I was only a little worried but now, when I know you are alive I can wait even month for your next activity. 😀
I look forward to all your videos and I enjoy every single one of them. You have a talent for videos, regardless of the content. But as much as I enjoy them they are not necessary if you prefer not to do a schedule.
I hope you continue to blog on the 1st and 15th, though. I always look forward to hearing from you even if there isn’t significant content to inform the fanbase of.
Thank you.
But Yandere Dev, Yandere Dev, y don’t you just… (Screams of being killed)
I really like the “forced videos” as u like to call them. Sometimes I prefer them over the actual development videos. They are more interesting a lot of the time!
Do what you feel is best we understand the new hard work it is after all the low hanging fruit is gone. We can wait 🙂
I respect the idea of this, if it pleases you then hopefully most of the fan base can understand.
I’ve never cared if there was a video twice a month. But I really would rather you at least make a blog post about the game on the 1st and 15th every month, instead of just leaving us in the dark until some random day that we don’t know shows up and you release a video.
Gosh finally lol
I love you Yan-Dev but hearing your apologies EVERY time you miss the deadline was getting a little tiring. I kept thinking, “this twice a month rule is not very helpful to the development.”
I would still appreciate a blog post twice a month though since I get anxious to hear from you.
Yay!You post on the blog!I had a bad day today so seeing this really puts a smile on my face!!😁
Do whatever you need to, Yandere Dev. I think you have a loyal enough fan base that will understand any decision you need to make.
To the chat in general… Were people actually angered by the Origins of Midori and Kokona? I thought those two characters were fan favorites?
But, Yan-dev…. we don’t need a video.
Thank you for the update.
You’re right, we don’t. Just a quick note to say what’s happened since the last post. Even if there’s nothing new, or a new problem has arisen with implementation.
It doesn’t have to be an essay length exposition, just a note.
Well, i was expecting this. Probably its true that its a waisting of time making a video without nothing important to say on it. But there is some problem; Everytime you stop doing something, people is getting even more tired and bored about the game. Yes. That’s happening.
There’s no new builds, nothing. Nothing new to say or talk about. Youtubers are uploading everyday mods and stuff to keep the game alive (With or without the intention to do it so) Someday, if this keep going, there are two possibilities.
1. Mods will dissapear eventually, so nobody will upload something related to YandereSim, and everyone will forget about it.
2. Someone is going to get advanged of this, and start his/her own game about this subejct, and everyone is going to forget about the game.
3. And my most feared one, you just going to stop doing Yandere Simulator, just because is “Too much” for you.
I’m the kind of “fan” that is always upset about some situations (No the forced vids, though) but its because I’m really worried about the game, and if is going to be finished someday. It seems that Osana will be implemented when no one cares anymore about it. And it stresses me up, because, I keep reading those kind of fans too, that are always saying to you to do nothing and rest. Things don’t work like that. If you wanna to be succesful on something, you have to give your everything about it. And honestly, everything that I have read and hear since this year were complaints.
I still have a big hope that this will work. But I don’t think this is the best way to do it. I don’t have any intentions to be rude or anything. This is just my perspective. No everyone visits your blog everyday to see if there’s any update (I do it, everyday, honestly) People can’t reach better to you through this. Keep doing unnecessary videos its not the solution, probably. I recommend you use some social media too, like Facebook or Twitter to keep people interested (And maybe first do a video talking about this so everyone go to follow your twitter o Facebook page)
Well, that’s my point of view.. Thank you. I’m still counting on you YandereDev.
Osana has been in the talks for over year, honestly the fanbase has replaced itself several times in that period. I think for the better, I see a more serious community here compared to 1 years ago.
I wouldn’t worry there’s plenty of interest, I think people just gave up asking because they might found out that there are better things to do other then camping on a development blog. Or the fanbase has gone thru some adulting instead replacing, I don’t pay too much attention to who’s often in the comments.
Personal I’m not a diehard fan, I usual only when there is a new video because that means some significant changes. Or when I’ve time really.
And to how long this takes. 1 rival = eta 1 year. How many rivals there are? I wouldn’t get nervous till another 3 years in the future.
Mainly, it’s taken this long due to the comparitive sloth pace of Unity 4. And partly Alex’s own (then) inefficient coding.
When TinyBuild stepped in, the ported the whole game to Unity 5 and cleaned up a lot of coding. That whole process made the game and its development a shit tonne faster. I think it’s safe to assume now that each new rival will NOT take a full year to develop.
I think if Fempai and Yandere-kun are to become things, that should happen AFTER the canon route is finished.
And your point of this comment was? Everyone here for longer than a year knows this. Pay more attention to reading.
And so for slow progress his stupid habbit to dick around with useless little things not making any progress hasn’t changed at all and won’t be ever.
Between what people have been asking for and what he has been doing this year was not really close together. So as the main protagonist the main developer very well is deaf.
Also trying to be a smartass all over the comments, whats that for? Not sure if you trying to be a douche on purpose but it’s annoying.
The points was this: “1 rival = eta 1 year”. I see, I’m an “annoying douchebag” for pointing out that you’re most likely wrong in this assertion. If you view me as “trying to be a smartass”, that’s your point of view. If you can’t deal with my bluntness, don’t reply.
You where replying to me in the first place you moron. No one asked for opinion, even less when you make it sound like an announcement from the dev itself.
You don’t speak for the developer.
You don’t make the news here.
Quit that bullshit already.
Nope you’re an annoying douchebag personality. And for future refrence refrain to reply to my posts.
I’m wrong, what source. Your none existing deep insides or close connection to the development team? How about you stop spreading false news, idiot. I’m not interested in your claim. So for future refrence fuck of my posts.
I hope people won’t forget the game. Everybody’s bored of playing the debug for months, this is sad but true.
At least we know he isn’t dead…
*Back round* Cancel through funeral!

LOL
Take your time! This game is already super awesome!
Please take your time,YandereDev!(I hope) We all are so happy about the progress of Yandere Simulator, and hope for you to finish it.
We all love you, YanDev.
Always make a wise decision
I do not argue the game is super and amazing, but by the time of its release, most people have lost interest in it so to say, too long is being developed
Do i can download it on linux??
Straight from Unity’s own homepage, two years ago:
“Unity Comes to Linux: Experimental Build Now Available” posted on August 26th, 2015.
I’m not sure about Yandere Simulator working on Linux, but the engine supports it.
Yandere-Dev, Alex, I personally have followed you through out 2 years of your development, i don’t care if you don’t have a build or a video up, i just want a blog post saying “I’m still alive, don’t worry.” that’s all i need.
I think you should take as much time as you need. Most people who follow the game development seem to be very patient so they shouldn’t be a problem and those who aren’t need to remember that the game is free because you made it free to download and they should be grateful they can play the game at all
take a break! you’re overworking yourself!
I trust you to make the decisions you need to to keep the progress smooth and everything, so i’m Supportive of whatever you decide to do. It’s your game after all! I just like having a rough estimate of when to check for new updates. I look forward to each build and blog post!
yandere devv !! yandere dev ^w^ where is the mode of kira yandere dev ??? oohh you not addtin kkk ^^ well nice job ii love your game and your job * w * and the game
i love the job of yandere simulator hmm the teachers run very run but she s not tires never of run ???
well kkk is very fun runner of the theachers
With such zeal, the developer for progress, the game will not be finished, not when there is a small chance for the game to exit.
You should have seen the fan base before he moved to Unity 5.
That was truly an agonising time. Countless updates with very little to show for it. He’s making much more rapid progress now and we actually have TinyBuild to thank for the porting to a faster engine with better optimised code.
