A New Nemesis for 2017

In 2015, I saw this illustration. It was an extremely memorable illustration, and I fell in love with it right away. While I was still just considering the idea of adding a “Hunter” or “Pursuer” to Mission Mode, and trying to imagine what she might look like, the girl from that illustration was the first thing that came to mind. I used that illustration as reference when I asked for the first official concept artwork of what Nemesis might look like.

A few days ago, I was contacted by the artist of that illustration. He told me that he felt uncomfortable with how similar Nemesis’ design was to his original design, and politely asked me to differentiate Nemesis from his character. I want to be respectful towards an artist whose work I admire, so I’ve decided to honor his request and modify Nemesis’ design.

The artist of the illustration that inspired Nemesis told me that it’s okay for me to keep Nemesis’ current hair color and eye color, but that she requires a new hairstyle. I’ve asked kjech, Yandere Simulator’s character artist, to design a new hairstyle for Nemesis. Here are the designs that he came up with:

(#1 and #5 may look very similar, but there are differences; #1 is more shaggy, and #1 is more tidy.)

(The artist of the illustration that inspired Nemesis told me that he’d approve of any of the above hair designs.)

I’d like to ask the Yandere Simulator community to vote on what hairstyle we should use for Nemesis moving forward! But first, there’s one other thing I’d like to mention…

While we’re waiting for one of my 3D modelling volunteers to model a new hairstyle for Nemesis, she will need to wear a temporary placeholder hairstyle on her head. A new build of the game will be released very soon; either on January 1st, or on January 2nd. In that build of the game, Nemesis will be using the following hairstyle:

(You may recognize this as a modified version of Yandere-chan’s original hairstyle from 2014. The “bobcat ears” have been removed.)

Okay! Now that you have all of the information required to make an informed decision about this subject, here is a link to the poll so you can vote on the hairstyle that Nemesis should use from now on:

I’m aware that many people have become attached to Nemesis’ current appearance, and will very disappointed that her design needs to change. Please try to understand that I don’t want to do anything that would cause ill feelings between me and an artist that I respect. It’s a little sad to say goodbye to her previous hairstyle, but ultimately, it’s the right thing to do.

Thanks for understanding!

  1. All these hairstyles look amazing. It’ll be hard to let go of Nemesis’ old hair, but I’ll surely still get jump scared by Nemesis no matter what hairstyle she has. Thank you for making such a beautiful game!

  2. Did you have trouble contacting the artist or something? This is something that really should’ve been done before revealing Nemesis, let alone putting her in the game.
But thank you for respecting the artist’s wishes. More people really need to do that.

  3. Honestly, I liked the original hairstyle better. These are just some little improvements just to make the game look more cooler, and the artist of the hair being a scared ass -3- I wish YandereDev can add a feature that let’s US choose the hairstyle for Nemesis in the game, where we can choose what hair we want for her if we don’t like the one she’s wearing right now. Well, that’s just my opinion. Prob never gonna get added this feature, but just wanted to say it aloud.

  4. I also think that the #3 hairstyle is a bit cliche. These days, people use that type of hairstyle and similar ones like that for female villains, rivals, etc. I would be fine with #1 or #5, but mostly 5. But as I said before, there can always be the option of adding a feature for choosing the hairstyle for Nemesis to our liking.

  5. her current hair is perfect, the hair on the ilustration dont get even closer
just because the art have a curly hair he is the owner off all characters with curly hair over an eye?
I can found a hundred arts with a evil school girl with a curly hair ù-u

  6. I think 1, 3, 5 without the bangs covering her eyes would look good. I don’t think she would weaken her perception by covering one eye unless it was a situation similar to the occult club members… she seems all calm, calculating and rational instead of an edgy hateful emo person. I hope I don’t offend you, this is just my opinion. Thank you ^_^

  7. #2 and #4 are my favourites. I guess I just kind of prefer Nem-chan having messy hair.
#4 looks the best to me, but I think #2 is more distinct for the character. I guess I’d be alright with #3 if it were a bit messier. As it is, it just looks too tidy, which I feel doesn’t work as well for the character (and, in general, I prefer the look of messy hair). The hair in the back looks a bit short, but I guess it’s not that different than the bobcat hair (which, while oft maligned, I actually think looks alright.)

  8. Both #2 and #3 should look good on 3D. Nemesis’s original hair looked good on 2D and the 3D version looked a little different to me, but still good nonetheless! I’m only choosing the ones that would probably stay true to their 2D versions 🙂

  9. I’m gonna miss Nemesis’ old hairstyle, I loved it, but I really respect what you did. Plus, the old hairstyle gives me trouble when I try to draw it, but the five hairstyles look like something I can replicate, haha. I love the #3.

  10. For me all the new hairstyles are pretty meh :/ I’m not saying you should use the old one, but none of these really say nemi-chan to me. Curly hair was really nice for her, you could have cut it shorter make it longer, more tighter curls. All these hairstyles look extremely generic

  11. It would be amazing too if Dev uses Misaki Mei (from Another) as reference for Nemesis’s hair instead and change it a bit. :””o
It has the same ambiance too. Man, it will be hard for me to get used to a new Nemesis hair since her old hair was amazing.:”((

  12. For all the fans that are annoyed about the hairstyle change, do you not understand how the artist feels?

Imagine if you spent hours on a drawing you were really proud of, making up all of the components by scratch.
Imagine if without your prior knowledge, the design was created for a game which will most likely be copyrighted, meaning that you wouldn’t get any credit for anything and someone else would.
You’d be upset, right? You may even feel angry. But for someone who’s so well respected by many online, like YanDev, it can be hard for one person’s point to get across so they have to say it politely to not cause drama to upset people like you, the fans who want the updates right now, in comparison to thinking about how long a game takes to make, the time and effort involved and coming up with unique concepts and designs, instead of being completely inspired by someone else.
Most people don’t grasp the concept of empathy and I doubt most people will, but this is a rough example of it.
Yep, I’m expecting all the ‘white-knights’, don’t you worry.

Or at least you could feel sympathetic by feeling sorry for the artist having their artwork used without permission.
Weird example, but if you made a cake and spent hours decorating it, you’d be upset if it got taken away from you just in front of your eyes, or worst of all, finding that someone else had stolen the cake whilst you were out and finding out from others with no prior knowledge that someone else was claiming all your hard work as their own, right? The same applies to the artist but with stronger emotions, as drawings that detailed take a very long time.
You’d feel sad if it happened to you. If it happened to someone else, you’d feel sorry for them. That’s how most people think and there’s nothing wrong with that. c: Sympathy is still a helpful trait.

However, please just think about others first. It’s a life lesson, to be honest.
Why are you feeling sorry for yourself, of all people? That’s going to cause denial, but it’s the truth.
Otherwise you wouldn’t be all ‘I’M SO ANGRY!!! I HATE THE ARTIST!!! NOW WHAT I AM GOING TO DO??’
Most people in this world feel sorry for themselves in exactly the same way, though; you don’t need to be ashamed. It’s human nature.
However, other people always come first for me and always have done, which is the exact opposite. I don’t care about myself. I’m one of the people who would truly die for someone else if it meant I could save them. My purpose has always been to help others the best way I can with all my might. It makes you externally weak, but you’re one of the most mentally strong people out there in your core, even though you’re so sensitive.
It’s why I’m helping you. I don’t want to tell you off or anything, I want to help you so in the future you know to look out for others. That also comes with age and experience. It’s not good to feel either way extremely, but it’s better to be somewhere in the middle, watching out for yourself whilst helping others as much as possible.

Seriously, it’s just a hairstyle. Pixels modelled to make a 3D shape on a screen. It’s not the end of the world.
I don’t mean to upset you and I’m sure someone’s going to take this the wrong way, but please think about others. You’re just as important as everyone else.

    • THANK YOU!

It’s great to see a comment like this amongst all the scumbags saying “the artist is such a dick!! You should keep it anyway!!”

Good to see at least someone still has respect for how much work artists put into the things they create, and how awful it can be to see it stolen, especially by a high-profile game developer who should know better.

    • This is a very thoughtful response, and I respect you for taking both sides and being equal, but may I point out, that, as many other commenters have said, there must be HUNDREDS of curly black-haired pale skinned red eyed assassin type characters, and most people would be honoured to have their OC considered good enough to be in a game, let alone an important one. Quite frankly, the artist is being a bit ridiculous.

  13. An idea pop out of my mind this morning: why we don’t keep Nemesis current hair BUT for the player! I think it will be really cool to be a sort of “False Nemesis, infiltrate in a secret copy mission… ” LOL
I think too the Yandere Simulator comunauty will be happy to see the old Nemesis hairstyle come back!
However, maybe the autor of the illustration will felt unconfortable too.
Of course, the Nemesi hairstyle won’t be tho oficial haircut of Yandere-chan, but only one of the hairstyle the player can choose whe he press the H key.
    You like my idea?

  14. I found a glitch:when you go to the favors menu and enter the services menu there will stay the screen with info chan where you can choose to open the other ones that can be opened

  15. I like #3
current hair is too tidy to be nemesis
#1 is not that better than original ones
    #2 the same reanon ↑
#4 not suitable for nemesis but suitable for rival
#5 any different from original ones?
