A New Nemesis for 2017

In 2015, I saw this illustration. It was an extremely memorable illustration, and I fell in love with it right away. While I was still just considering the idea of adding a “Hunter” or “Pursuer” to Mission Mode, and trying to imagine what she might look like, the girl from that illustration was the first thing that came to mind. I used that illustration as reference when I asked for the first official concept artwork of what Nemesis might look like.

A few days ago, I was contacted by the artist of that illustration. He told me that he felt uncomfortable with how similar Nemesis’ design was to his original design, and politely asked me to differentiate Nemesis from his character. I want to be respectful towards an artist whose work I admire, so I’ve decided to honor his request and modify Nemesis’ design.

The artist of the illustration that inspired Nemesis told me that it’s okay for me to keep Nemesis’ current hair color and eye color, but that she requires a new hairstyle. I’ve asked kjech, Yandere Simulator’s character artist, to design a new hairstyle for Nemesis. Here are the designs that he came up with:

(#1 and #5 may look very similar, but there are differences; #1 is more shaggy, and #1 is more tidy.)

(The artist of the illustration that inspired Nemesis told me that he’d approve of any of the above hair designs.)

I’d like to ask the Yandere Simulator community to vote on what hairstyle we should use for Nemesis moving forward! But first, there’s one other thing I’d like to mention…

While we’re waiting for one of my 3D modelling volunteers to model a new hairstyle for Nemesis, she will need to wear a temporary placeholder hairstyle on her head. A new build of the game will be released very soon; either on January 1st, or on January 2nd. In that build of the game, Nemesis will be using the following hairstyle:

(You may recognize this as a modified version of Yandere-chan’s original hairstyle from 2014. The “bobcat ears” have been removed.)

Okay! Now that you have all of the information required to make an informed decision about this subject, here is a link to the poll so you can vote on the hairstyle that Nemesis should use from now on:

I’m aware that many people have become attached to Nemesis’ current appearance, and will very disappointed that her design needs to change. Please try to understand that I don’t want to do anything that would cause ill feelings between me and an artist that I respect. It’s a little sad to say goodbye to her previous hairstyle, but ultimately, it’s the right thing to do.

Thanks for understanding!

  1. And haters still dare to say shit about my favorite dev, most would make a stupid excuse about it instead of being honest with us, that’s what I like about yan dev, keep up the good work!

  2. Why not use the original consept of yandere-chan’s hairstyle on nemesis-chan? That way you can use the original idea you had in the game?

  3. Shoot I can’t delete my post. Anyway what I ment to say was why not use the bobcat style in general since that was your original consept for yandere-chan? Please make that an option.

  4. I am hoping for #1 and #5, because they look more…natural and are not overflowing with hair in front (as Nemesis does not have long back hair). Too bad for me, they are not in favor according to poll.

  5. I went for #2, because I feel like #3 is too… rigid? Like, not the hair I’d associate with an assassin – especially not if I were to expect them to alter their appearance easily. #4 is pretty cool, but I feel it would look too much like Yandere-chan-with-her-hair-down. Which might work, I suppose, if they are supposed to be seen as two sides of a coin – both coldblooded murderers and all.

Actually… is there a way to shorten her curly hair? Make it more bob-length than chin-length?

  6. I personally think this is dumb and stupid! Sorry i seem like a total ass! But i think that artist is being a bit of a whiny bitch to be honest! I don’t feel Nemi Chan and that drawing look the same! It’s just a hairstyle….

I can’t live with her looking any other way!

I know you don’t like suggestions yandere dev but why not like a design a nemsis option? I can’t accept Nemi Chan any other way!

To be honest the look of her now scares me! I feel look i am looking at a scary creepy clown version of Ayano!

I’m not going to accept the change of this as i think it is ridiculous….

    Sorry!

    • I’m with Luna, plus you can’t say that it’s a super unique trademark hair style that can’t be reproduced. I personally think that the first one suits her the most. The other hairstyles don’t make her credible to me 😥

    • It’s not dumb and stupid. The artist isn’t being a whiny bitch and they have all rights to ask YandereDev to change the hairstyle. You can live with her having a different hairstyle.

  7. Weirdly enough, the modified bobcat makes her look almost…. Docile. Harmless…. Thats kinda terrifying in a way….
    I liked 3 and 4 the most but i voted 3

  8. What a shame, if it were me, I’d love that something designed would be incorporated in a game (and it seriously fitted well with my idea of nemesis), but oh well, who am I but a poor untalented artist to judge ?

Anyways, I seriously can’t really decide. I’m not too fan of all designs (even the bobcat one) beside number 4 honestly, but #4 doesn’t really fit with Nemesis personal design. It would fit better an independant weirdo girl with a ‘Angry Tomoko Kuroki’-like persona and bad temper
So I can’t vote on this poll. I’d recommand to think of other design. For me, a good Nemesis design would be long hair that look taked care of while somewhat nothing out of ordinary.

  9. Hey, I thought I should suggest that one of the rivals be a yandere too. Just one who was closer to senpai then Yan-chan. You know, someone who’s innocent looking but when they find out your interest in senpai they try to kill you. Just an idea though.

  10. I love how Yandere Dev is so nice and respectful to others!
I’m hoping that #4 wins, probably because I have about the same length of hair and like it. The bangs also look cool and Nemesis~Chan looks bad ass no matter what.
Also, for the people complaining which I have already seen so far, the artist might feel like their work was taken away. Some artists are very sensitive about people taking inspiration from their art and mistake it for stealing. This artist was not like that however and kindly asked Yandere Dev to change the hairstyle instead of changing everything.
Let’s just all hope we get Osana Najimi by February 😂😌😂😂😂.
(No offense btw. I was only trying to point a few things out to some people who didn’t understand!)

  11. What if there was a way to customize Nemesis, either by being able to switch between the 5 hairstyles, or a complete customization that makes her look like the player wants, although that’d take time to implement and be a little tedious.

  12. Seriously, f**k that guy. He should be proud that a game developer got inspired by his artwork. They work with someone else’s original characters (anime character fanarts) but when someone do the same thing to them, they start whining. So hypocritical. I couldn’t respect a person like that, no matter how hard I’d try. Yandere Dev should have ignored their request, it’s not like they lose something because of it.

  13. I’m sad because I liked the wavy hairstyle of nemesis chan She was really afraid
but if she has a Hair too tacky … I find … It does not suit her …
It will look like a coodere and I would like to see these hairstyles for new characters
    good continuation

  14. I don’t understand why the artist is uncomfortable with this…? I’d be freaking excited and flattered if this happened to me. I understand some artists’ feel like their work is being stolen in situations like this, but the hairstyle is very generic and not really something that can be trademarked…. Nothing gets taken away from an artist by having others use their work, it could actually draw more attention to them and expand their fanbase. I’d definitely understand a lot more if someone just wanted credit and for it to be made known that they created it. It seems a little whiny to me, but I’m not an artist so what do I know? I’m not mad, just extremely confused. I wasn’t particularly fond of the old hairstyle, and I believe this could be a blessing in disguise, but I have a really hard time seeing why this is a problem in the first place.
