What’s Next for Yandere Simulator?

So, what’s next for Yandere Simulator? I have a lot to say about that subject! Enough to fill a 9-minute video! Check it out:

I have already done some planning regarding Osana (I know what kind of interactions I want her to have with Senpai, and I know how I want the player to be able to sabotage those interactions) but there is still much more planning to be done (her side-story, her suitor, how to become her friend, etc). My next step is to plan out Osana, write up all of her lines, ask Osana’s voice actress and Senpai’s voice actor to record all necessary lines, and send the lines to an animator so he can animate the two characters in sync with their voiced lines.

While I’m waiting for the voice actors / animator to become available / provide the materials I need, I’ll spend my time attempting to improve Yandere Simulator in as many ways as possible.

I’m curious! What do you think I should prioritize first?

As always, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. Dear Yandev,

Many of us would pay through the nose to include “Yan-Kun”. We know it is a stretch goal. We know it would make the game take much longer to complete. We know it would mean more work for you. But, the ability for both Senpai AND The Protagonist to be Male OR Female, would make it a much higher quality game, worth more, appeal to a wider range of audiences, and generally make the game more fun and of higher quality. If anything, (No offense to the original “Yandere” meaning etc.) Having a Male Protagonist usually tends to not only sell better, but make for a more interesting game. Not only that, but stretching the normal boundaries of the japanese “Yandere” would draw attention and introduce the concept of a male Yandere to a lot of people.

In general, I believe adding a male protagonist would sky-rocket the game, not to mention the fact that so many people would love that ability to customize the game further. I know it seems like a poor attempt at recreating “Ayano” and seems as if we put no creativity or effort into it, but the japanese name “Yano” is actually a pretty good first name for a boy. People are saying “Ayato”, but in order for other people to call him “Yan-Kun”, Ayato would not work. Please take time to consider this. Even make a poll, including all the Pro’s and Con’s you can think of. I can sit here and say that the game would only benefit from this option.

Everybody wants Yan-Kun to be a thing. You even added him to the characters page, so you’re considering it! Please listen to us and add it! It would make so many people happy! But whatever you choose to do, we love you Yandev. Keep doing what you’re doing!

    • I think Yan-Kun would be best as either a later DLC, or as a completely separate game. (and I think the 2nd of those two is better).
The yandere trope is most commonly put on females since there is something slightly adorable about a girl willing to do ANYTHING to keep her love, but it’s not as “adorable” when I guy is a psychopathic stalker…

  2. Why can’t YandereDev just have all the rivals (except for Osana) in the game and they can kinda be how Oka is. How she is a Rival but she is a regular NPC that is an idea I have.

  3. I think a good option that isn’t directly included in the poll is to clean up the code? As you mentioned, the code could be rewritten to be more efficient, so before you implement really complicated mechanics, perhaps cleaning up the code could be a smart choice. I’d be content to wait a while longer if it were for that reason, but not limited to that reason in particular. I believe all your decisions are wise so I trust your judgement! It’s your own game after all! Thank you for your hard work!

  4. I have a really important question about the rivals. With rivals already implemented playing important roles in the game like the nurse (not too much yet) and Oka Ruto, What will happened if I kill them before they were the rival of the week? kind of kill them in the first week?

    • That will be impossible, as its been long established that the Rivals all werent around for weeks that werent there own. Some, like the sub teacher and the sub nurse are there for a week because they are subs, Osana is the first and will always be there, or up until you either rid of her or its game over. Others, off memory, usually have mysterious reasons why they were gone.

    • For the first week, the only threat will be Osana and all the other rivals will be absent from school for whatever reason. Then the second rival (the cooking cub leader, I forgot her name) will appear at school and she will be the only rival present and all the other rivals will still be absent until their ‘allotted’ week, etc., etc.

  5. Dear Yandev, why don’t you give a set of routines to every single student? Those screenshots taken with that mod made me suggest you that every normal student should have their unique set of recurrent habits (for example, Midori Gurin wandering in the rooftop holding her phone and roaming in the Gaming Club at lunchtime with her portable console, or Oka Ruto following the Basu sisters everywhere everytime she can) so those NPCs can get themselves some personality.
    So, what do you think?

  6. YandereDev, you should work on getting the framerate better and adding new students. Its just really easy to move around the school with just the current number of students in the school. I also want to have more… victims. Also, why don’t you add a students that is a reference to an anime character or a video game character, like what you did with Pippi, Ryuto and Midori(Midori is based of Tsuruya… I think.). Try adding… CHIAKI NANAMI. :3

  7. Awwww hell! I’m excited! Take as long as you want man! Because it makes the long wait even more exciting! I can’t wait until 2017,2018,2019,2020 etc. When the full game comes out! Ahhh I can already see this game becoming very popular very quickly when it’s released!

  8. I agree with everything said in the video, yandere-dev. I think a good place to start would be footsteps or the guidance counselor. As you said, a detection system is essential for a stealth game. At this time, there’s no real penalty for sprinting around campus acting strangely. This is convenient for testing elimination methods, but makes the game seem more like a sandbox than a true stealth game. Perhaps stealth/punishment from the counselor could be turned on or off with the turtle in the light music room, like the longer death animations were when they were implemented. This way, people who are interested in the game just for the “running around and killing people with fun easter eggs” can continue to enjoy it after said features are added.

Alternatively, I would focus on making a pose mode or a “freeplay” mode for people to goof around in between long updates. This way, people can remain interested in the game during long pauses between builds. I think it would be fun to make scenes to give the school a bit more life–and the option to customize various npcs would be an attractive feature. Imagine a freeplay/pose mode where a player can make their own cast for a school in the engine of yandere simulator. Maybe someone wants to make a school where every girl is kokona, or add their original character to the game (yes, i heard midori’s dialogue lol). This would allow more casual players to have fun while waiting for features that would make goofing around a bit more difficult.

Also, it might be fun to add a “halloween” easter egg where all the girl students change into witch costumes and all of the male students change into vampire costumes, while sakyu and inkyu show their “true forms” 😛

Anyway, take all the time you need off. Keep up the great work!

    • Or maybe give the demons function! Maybe you have to burn 3 people for the flame demon and give 5 loved ones for the lust 😛 just an idea since we are in the topic

  9. *Shes acting strange* HELLL YES I AM!!!1!! OSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANA! *sings*

  10. Wait yandere dev u baka there is a rival in the game.. OKA RUTO u said there was no rival in the game that u can easily kill. well oka ruto is a easy kill if u follow her on a sertin day (not saying witch day) so um there. (no hate comment plzz only nice things)

but i love the work and take off a month then work on the game for a month then take off haff a moth then work on the rest of the month then relese a build lol but plz take ur time.
    love info chan..

    • The mechanics of a proper rival havent been implemented into the game so ‘proper rival’ gameplay hasnt appeared as such, making Oka Ruto just another NPC until the layouts have been confirmed. The nurse and the orange haired girl standing near the fountain next to the tree (i’m assuming she was a tester of Osana) are rivals too much they were just there…

  11. The teacher became a giraffe, and Midori took over the whole posing part of the video :3
To be kind of honest… The video didn’t really point out the images from before, they just appeared and vanished without us knowing about them. Most people hoped it was about cutscenes and it would show us why info hates Osana, but instead it just showed us the same pictures really and some additions to them.
This is an opinion and I’m just curious that’s all.

  12. At Osana (Copresated?) dating call
Osana : Or I will kick your ass!
Me : DAMMMMNNNNNN this is like the first time yandere sim ever had a swear I would like the game to have more swears lmao I am weird

  13. I definitely believe a creative “do your own thing” mode is now necessary between longer updates. Perhaps even building our own level would be cool and/or selecting routines from a pre-determined list could be fun. The only reason I make this observation is because not only is YanDev competing against his own deadlines but also the attention span of his audience. Sure we can wait two weeks for an update but can we wait 6? 8? What awesome games will come out? What will we move onto? Will YanSim become one of those games where we say “Yeah I played it but it’s not cool anymore”? Well, I guess my ramblings are moot because YanDev, being the totally Metro game developer that he is has already thought of all this. Basically I’m affirming the need for his Minecraftesque “make your own adventure” update to keep us all occupied with something shiny until the real toys are busted out. All said though, keep it up, YanDev, I’m rooting for you!

  14. Hi Yandev I have a suggestion for a character in the game! Now I don’t expect you to implement her but if you like the concept then tell me , ok so my idea is that you can have a character called Sami Eitzu and she can be Ayana’s assistant! She helps her get away with murder and can help by distracting those around her when she kills others ( Sami never kills anyone but helps Yandere chan get away with what she does) . If the player treats Sami correctly then she will stick with the player but if player is rude and never says thank you or gives her gifts (like manga) then she and the corrent rival will love Sempai and fight for him in a cut scene and Sami always wins them she confesses love to Sempai and you can’t eleminate her. Thank you for your time YamdereDev if you want charictar modal ideas I’ll tell them to you
    -Samara

    • Uhm… well… I fail to see anyone but Info-chan assisting Ayano with murder. People with the evil Persona will not help Ayano, but will only praise her, and keep their mouths shut. Regarding the part where Sami will fight with the current rival… what? Okay, this is getting wierder… and the part where Sami will suddenly confess to Senpai, what is the point of the current rival and Sami teaming up when Sami is the one confessing to Senpai? Also, how can the current Rival fight? I understand if its Osoro, or Megami, but you expect Hanako or Amai to fight? And how will they know that Ayano is after Senpai? Okay, I’m done. I’m not looking for a fight. Just expressing my opinion :3

    • There are many problems with this idea. If Sami goes after Senpai if Ayana is rude to her, then why was Sami helping Ayana? For revenge? Or was it that she was using Ayana to get rid of the Rivals just to backstab her? If that’s the case, then if she can take out the rival by herself and cannot be eliminated by Ayana, what’s the point of helping Ayana in the first place?
In addition, making Sami a invulnerable character and a very active assistant just takes a lot from what the game is aiming for. It would force the player to babysit Sami, so that she wouldn’t get into their way. I’m sorry, but this is a shitty idea.

  15. I am not very experienced with coding or game design, but here are my two cents.

While adding new features to the game will be nice, I think improving the framerate should be or close to the top of the priority list. If not, at least above increasing the school’s population (unlike the poll results right now). It’ll make testing the builds much easier and better. Of course, new features would keep people interested in the game’s development, but honestly, most people can’t experience or enjoy the new features if it’s Yandere Slideshow Simulator. Plus, if you add more features now, it’ll make optimizing the game more frustrating. Of course, you shouldn’t completely optimize the game, because you didn’t implement all of the features as of now. Just enough so that the framerate isn’t abysmal.

    • Another priority is the posing feature. It will help keep people interested in the game as they wait for new features and content to come out. You may even include the rivals’ models for those who are very excited for them while not having to worry about including silly content to keep a part of the fanbase happy.

  16. Well, good job with this video.
This is probably the first time I’m OK with YandereDev not making an update every 2 weeks, which means the video really worked.
    So, once again, good job.

  17. Adding a male delinquents that you can order them to gang rape the victim. A condition should be made first. If it fails, you will be the one who will get raped.
    :^)

  18. I can’t believe it’s really possible to fully implement the rival within one month. Besides all that code, there’s also the ideas necessary for her interactions and backstory, and her routine must be very elaborate and needs a lot of balancing and readjusting. If you can make up things like that within a month, you have my respect.

I am perfectly fine with waiting for her until christmas or beyond, even without any improvements of other nature.

  19. Maybe I’m thinking too logically about this, but I personally feel like getting rid of the sub-teacher would be super easy: Go to the student councilor, tell her that a teacher is making extremely sexual innuendos and hints towards male students and, hence, abusing her position and she’ll be suspended. At the very least. Sure, add in a day or two where she is under surveillance, to see if she is as succbus-like as Yandere says, but… you know. The point stands.

Personally, I’d say maybe work on glitches and code improvement. If the game works better, you don’t ‘need’ creative things to do; a decently working debug mode would tide people over well – at least, I think so. I wouldn’t care how awesome some creative extra gameplay is, if the game is slow or otherwise not working all that well.

  20. Im goin to e honest: I get bored easly while playing yandere simulator. The thing i like to do the most is to customize yandere-chan. So i would really like if there were new hairstyles implemented into the game and ad physics to the ones who dont.

  21. This is all so exciting! Haha. I’m super psyched that we’re getting more story and more game to play. This game is going to be absolutely epic once it’s done. I am in the same boat as everyone else, unfortunately, in that I haven’t actually been able to click on any of the recent polls :(.

  22. I think Kokona should be a rival since you literally built up so much stuff around her.
But I also think there should be less focus on random killings. If a person plans to murder, they need to plan every thing,If a person tries to manipulate things it would take a good while to do that. There should not be an easy out mode. Such as mind slaving some one and sending them at the rival. Or wearing a mask and going off on said rival.
Think of it like an RPG, there is the minions and the boss, the minions are easy to deal with, the boss has weaknesses and strengths. You cannot just bull rush into a fight and expect to win. You have to plan the attack, lean how to move and when to move. The entire weak up to the moment needs to be about getting stronger or shifting events in your favor.
Again if I can just get a mind slave or wear a mask, whats the point?

    • YanDev said multiple times that Kokona is the test dummy of many of the elimination methods. Easy for him to program the new methods like that, because he wouldn’t have to include it to every single student in the school.
The game will punish you for random killings. Kill a bunch of times, and the school’s atmosphere suffers. Thus, students will detect suspicious behavior more easily which would lead to people spreading rumors of Yandere-chan. I think the mind-slave method would be nerfed after the first murder-suicide, since the school faculty will do anything to prevent that. Maybe add another guard at the school’s gate.
As for the masks, I believe that after the day of the first masked killing(s), the school will ban masks, and if anyone is caught wearing a mask by any of the school staff, the teacher would chase after the masked individual, and well, potentially expelling them for not following a rule that was implemented to protect the school’s reputation.
As for your concern for the difficulty later on in the game, I believe that would not much of a problem. Osana is the easiest, obviously. But the next four are club leaders, thus they would be around their club members for most of their time. Let’s not forget about how insanity will increase each killing animation, giving the other club members time to run away from Yandere-chan. The next two are staff members with the teacher being much harder to hit, since she would have to be in the staff room for work when she’s not trying to seduce Senpai. The next last three are basically the hardest ones to get rid of. Osana is the delinquent gang leader who isn’t bound to rules and may be surrounded by members of her gang most of the time. I’m assuming that Hanako is hanging out with Senpai for 99% of the day, and Megami is, well, untouchable.

  23. sorry if I’m a little sceptical now, but I see you did a pool, will you really will make your next move based on that pool? or it will be like the Rivals Intor, that you neglected like a mouth? I know what happened with that vidoe, but I still think it was worst to neglect it so, yeah I just curiosu if you really will see the polls and make your next move based on them, good luck with the game though.
