Rival Introduction Video

Finally! After a long, long wait, I am finally ready to present the Rival Introduction Video! Enjoy!

  • The 2D graphics that float around in the background – and the rival’s name plates – were created by Jacob Judge ( http://jacobjudge.com/ ).
  • The artist who provided the character artwork for this video is named Guillermo Valerla Iglesias ( http://kjech.deviantart.com/ ).
  • I received color correction and motion blur assistance from Andrew Taraba of Bizurk Software ( http://bizurk.net/ ).
  • I was the person in charge of the video’s motion graphics (making the characters move around onscreen, etc).
  • The modeller who provided the rivals’ hairstyles was Druelbozo ( http://druelbozo.deviantart.com/ ).
  • The music was composed by Taylor Ambrosio Wood ( http://marimbagirl.com/ ).

I’m very, very grateful to everyone who was involved! Thank you all so much for your help!

Character Profiles

If you’d like to learn more about the rivals, I suggest heading over to the Characters page of the Yandere Simulator website! It’s been updated with 10 character profiles!

The Characters page will be updated soon with 10 more characters! Yes, Yandere Simulator has more planned characters than you might think. The next time I update the Characters page, I will announce it with a blog post.

Reasons for Rival Video Delay

You’d probably like to hear an explanation for why it took so long to produce the Rival intro video. On August 15th, I polled the fanbase to find out what you wanted me to focus my attention on next, and the majority of you voted for the Rival video. At that point in time, I fully intended to follow the results of the poll…but something happened that made me choose to focus my attention on the Matchmaking video, instead.

As I’m sure many of you already know by now, screenshots from an earlier version of the Rival video were somehow leaked to the Internet. This was very disappointing to me, and honestly, it significantly diminished my motivation for working on the  Rival video. After I lost my motivation, I decided to focus exclusively on the Matchmaking feature, instead. If it wasn’t for the leaks, I wouldn’t have lost my motivation, and this video would have been out 3~4 weeks ago.

It is still a complete mystery how screenshots from the Rival video were leaked. Here are the facts:

  • Only five people were allowed to see this video; the musicians who were asked to compose music for it.
  • I was extremely secretive about this video, and allowed NOBODY else to see it, not even my closest friends.
  • I uploaded an early version of the video to YouTube as an “unlisted” video so that the musicians could compose music for it. I checked the video’s view count every day, to check for anything suspicious. One day, the view count shot up to 50. This was extremely suspicious (an indication that someone was spreading around the link to the video) so I deleted the video immediately.
  • The entire video was not leaked; only screenshots of it were leaked. This makes me believe that whoever took the screenshots was only able to watch it once; otherwise, they would have taken additional screenshots.
  • One of the composers who I sent this video to has not responded to any of my attempts to communicate with them. (I will call him “The 5th Composer”).

Considering all of the above information, my current theory is that The 5th Composer didn’t take the confidential nature of the video very seriously, and broadcasted it during a live-stream. Someone took screenshots of it, and posted these screenshots on Instagram. From there, the screenshots were spread around the Internet. I have no evidence to confirm that The 5th Composer is the one responsible for the leak; this is only a theory, so there is not much else for me to say.

If you have some free time, I’d like to ask you to answer a few polls for me:

Prior to this blog post, were you aware that screenshots of the Rival video had been leaked? http://poal.me/5qxw6i

If you were aware of the leak…

Did you avoid looking at any images / videos of the leaked material? http://poal.me/u9rzuc

When did you first become aware of the leak? http://poal.me/yzfjl9

Thanks for your time!

What’s Next?

The next thing I will focus my attention on is making a video about everything I’ll need to do in order to implement Yandere Simulator’s first real official rival. I hope to have that video out by October 1st – and then you’ll know what my priorities for the month of October are going to be!

As always, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. My immediate reaction upon seeing the video in my Sub-List: YES!!

Kizana: Would you be my Romeo?
Uh, you know that those two KILLED THEMSELVES because they WERE MORONS, right? That’s not something you should aspire to for a romance, honey. In fact, their story is not a romance at all. Idiot Kizana. I will ENJOY murdering you.

Imoto’s voice is annoying. Perfectly fitting.

As for Megami… I am waiting for her to say “Senpai, someone is stalking you… don’t worry, I will follow your every step, to make sure it isn’t happening.”

And whoever does the sub-teacher’s voice: Great job. Very seductive.

    • yeah ryuto, delinquents, and budo, PLUS all the generic male lines (like when you talk to them the next day after they witness murder) all have the same voice actor (at least thats how it seems)

    • Pikachuk maybe you can try and make a rivals mod? I know you have made Osana mod but now you can make a mod of all rivals?

  2. I found about the leaks in a brazilian fb group. They started talking about it and spreading the screenshots there… I tried to avoid them… I felt really sad about it, I mean this took you a lot of work and people were able to see it before so it kinda “ruins the surprise”. I tried to avoid the screenshots, I only saw the teacher because MY FREAKING PHONE FREEZED WITH THE IMAGE THERE AND I WAS LIKE “THANK YOU VERY MUCH DUMBASS”… Yes calm down I’m going to take my meds…
Anyways the video is amazing and I’m so happy that it is oficialy out. Keep up with your awesome work on Yan Sim.

  3. I only saw screenshots about it but i didnt hear the music some of my friends were trying to find leaks and try to show me but they forced me lol………….sorry yanderedev…..

  4. To say the true, I an non English native speaker. I saw the word “leak” in a related youtube video and didn’t know what that means. But I decided to watch ’cause the video tumbmail got my attention. At first, I tought it was fan made by someone skilled, but when I saw the comments I really understood what “leak” meaned.

  5. i find the name of rivals is unique, it was like using several japanese words.
like Amai Odayaka, ‘Amai’ means ‘sweet’.
then Osoro Shidesu, stands for ‘osoroshi desu’ meaning ‘so scary’ or ‘its scary’.
and Megami Saiko, ‘megami’ means Goddess and ‘saiko’ means ‘the best’.

tho i already knows that Yandev will use some of jap words for their names,
since he used Osana Najimi (childhood friend) as the name of the very first rival.

sorry for my bad english 😀

    • Also, Kisana means snobbish. Not just this, but Sunobu and Oka Ruto are snob and occult respectively transcribed into katakana. Yes, this means that Kisana Sunobu’s name literally means snobbish snob. This is Midori Gurin (green green) cranked up to 11.

  6. this was not the only thing that got spoiled .. match making method was spoiled few days before it’s release as well.
    also THIS was spoiled
***WARNING DON’T CLICK IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED****

the reason why I am sharing this is because I want yandere dev to find out who knows not only about “the rivals introduction” but those things as well!
    goodluck yandere dev ♥

  7. I’ll be honest, I let out a little gasp of excitement when I saw this post in my inbox.

I have to say, I like the characters you’ve come up (though I have to admit, I think the clumsy nurse thing is a little too silly, and OMG, the onii-chan complex? That’s too cliched!). It’s a good mix of personalities and types, and I like the descriptions you gave for the characters (BTW, the link for that page and the polls are broken. I had to do a Google search for the former). I also find it interesting that the character pages hint at future events and what will happen. It also hints that Senpai won’t be a passive character, but will be a full part of this game, and as affected by the events of things to come as Yandere-chan and the Rivals. Perhaps I may get my hope that there will be a bonus level where Senpai finds out Yandere-chan’s true nature after they get together and chaos ensues!

I also wonder if maybe for certain rivals, you can only get rid of them with certain elimination methods. Like, maybe the only way to get rid of Honoka-chan is to matchmake her with another student, or the only way to get rid of Megami is to frame her for the murders on campus (it’s how I would write such a story). It would certainly add to the game’s challenge, especially in later levels where you have a delinquent who’s used to violence or a President with a ton of money and influence at hand.

Anyway Yandere-Dev, if you happen to read this comment, good luck with the game from here on out. I’m going to go watch the video for the third time!

    • I think he’s said there’ll be methods specific to the rivals, though not quite like that. More like, I think cooking club was the example he used, where she was the only one who could be killed by, I dunno, shoving her head on top of the stove or something. So I think that’s covered at least. Should be fun, I’d like to do a playthrough using only those specific methods, I know that much.

  8. I gotta say I like them. They all seem pretty interesting. I do know that the teacher is probably at the top of my actual ‘kill list’ right now, though. Creeps me out for some reason. Delinquent and sports girl are probably my favorite.

  9. I’m so happy the video is finally out! The rivals look really cool and seem to have really fun personalities! The effects and music were awesome too! Thank you Yandere Dev for working so hard on it!

  10. You guys found out really fast the fun girl! Shit that was fast hahahaha

Loved the rivals introduction video! Though I think the first girl is too much the “generic tsundere girl”. She reminds me a lot of Audrey Belrose from Hunie Pop.

However, I LOVED the gang leader, the athlete and the last one. I’m so excited to buy this game when it finally releases – though it’s sad to think Yan dev might stop releasing builds after the game completion achieves 80% or 90%.

  11. I love all of the rival girls here. Its funny how Osana is like a jerk to senpai and another reason i like her. Sadly Kokona is not the third rival. It would have been nice if she was here. Also Muja is soooo accidental but cute! Amai Odayaka(cute), Asi Rito(beautiful and sporty), Oka Ruto(she is super cute)Osoro Shidesu(pretty and tough). Mida Rana is soooo hot and it is true! And senpai’s sister Hanako is so kawai! I love everything about the video and the rivals! YandereDev has done the best work and I can’t wait for Yandere Simulator to be complete!

  12. I was wondering… Weren’t the characters gonna get original face and bodytype? (a face and body type made only for this game) From what I can see, all the rivals have the old Aoi model (some have a bit edited version of it). Doesn’t that mean that all of them have to be remodeled with the new model when it happens? Is it gonna happen anymore? I personally don’t find the Aoi model too appealing, so that would be a bit disappointing, but I guess things like that are not top priority at the moment.

  13. After watching the video for the second time:

1- it surprised me that every girl had their own background music. I wasn’t expecting that. The art is nice and this level of production wasn’t expected by me.

2- Mida Rana’s voice actress is really good. Some of the voice actress are good, but her acting called my atention. I like Osoro Shidesu’s voice: she can be the though girl. And Megami Saiko is the Kill la kill girl. i’m 100% sure of it.

  14. I did hear of Senpai’s sister a long time ago, it was before I even got interest in the game, which was months ago. I read it in Wikipedia when I was thinking if I should follow the development of the game or not. I’m sorry, back then, I knew nothing about this… 😦

  15. I think yandere dev will have some of the rivals hidden or possibly have points where there may be multiple rivals. There could also be a possibility that some rivals may try sliding under the radar slowly and methodically thinking about when and how to approach senpai at the perfect opportune moment waiting weeks or even months to do so (similar to how yandere-chan is waiting until the rivals after his love have been eliminated.) one thing that yandere dev may implement in game or as dlc is that Senpai may fall in love with a girl and want to confess his love for her which the player needs to stop as well. Yandere simulator is after all a game about sabotaging EVERY aspect of Senpai’s love life in order to make sure Yandere-chan will become Senpai’s one and only by any means necessary.

  16. Come to think of it, I did notice that a Youtube account called “Crackers Grimath” did leak something pertaining to Yandere Simulator.
Didn’t click on the video because I did not think it was right, but it definitely caught my attention about a week ago
