The Matchmaking Update

After a long, long wait, the Matchmaking elimination method is finally implemented! You can learn all about it here:

Here’s a full list of everything that is new in this build:

General Improvements

  • Fixed bug that would cause Kokona to stop walking towards the bathroom if she noticed Yandere-chan doing something suspicious on the way there.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan’s mask to become splattered with blood if she was wearing a mask while tranquilizing another student.
  • Fixed bug that would allow the player to instruct students to go distract someone who was naked / bathing.
  • Fixed bug that caused Midori to continue sending text messages even after she had just witnessed murder.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the player to hear the sound of fire when a mind-broken slave was spawning.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Yandere-chan’s hair to turn invisible while getting a Game Over.
  • Fixed graphical bug with Yandere-chan’s “twin drills” hairstyle.
  • Fixed bug that would cause “Evil” students to call the police.
  • Gave the nurse a more gentle face.
  • Gave Oka Ruto a new choker.
  • Improved the model for the hill that the mythical tree stands on top of, and moved the hill.
  • Improved the sound of the piano in the Light Music Club.
  • Added a static effect to the screen when the player attempts to run out of the school grounds.
  • Added a corridor of cherry trees outside of the school.
  • Added Tasks for Pippi, Ryuto, and Kokona’s suitor.

  • Made it possible to learn 5 of Kokona’s likes and 5 of Kokona’s dislikes.
  • Selected a “suitor” for Kokona (he can be seen gazing longingly at Kokona).
  • Added a “Love” option to the dialogue wheel. This option only appears if Yandere-chan has befriended the character she is speaking to. This option currently only works for Kokona and her suitor.
  • If the player uses the “Love” option to correctly identify a character’s crush, then the Love option can be used to open a menu of three other Love-related options.
  • The player can use the Love menu to make a suitor change his appearance.
  • The player can use the Love menu to give a suitor a gift to give to the girl he has a crush on.
  • The player can use the Follow Me command to lead the suitor to the library so raise his Intelligence stat.
  • The player can now purchase a wireless headset and a wireless earpiece from Info-chan.
  • The player can use the Love menu to instruct the current rival to go somewhere to meet someone special.
  • The player can use the Love menu to instruct a suitor to go talk to the current rival.
  • Once the rival and the suitor are alone together, the player can use the wireless headset to give instructions to the suitor as he speaks to the rival. This opens up a dating minigame.
  • If the player is able to raise the rival’s Affection Meter to 100% before 5:00 PM on Friday, the rival will put a love letter into her suitor’s locker that will cause them to go to the cherry tree outside of school.
  • If the player approaches the rival and the suitor while they are under the mythical cherry tree, the player will see a cutscene where the two students confess their love for one another.
  • After the suitor and the rival have entered a relationship, the player can see them walk into school while holding hands and also see them cuddling at lunchtime.

What’s next?

As I mentioned at the end of the Matchmaking video, my next priority is going to be the Rival Introduction video. Here’s what still needs to be done:

  • Re-render some of the 3D footage
  • Review all voice actress’ takes and select the best ones
  • Ask the composer to adjust the volume / mix of the background music so it doesn’t drown out the girls’ voices
  • Slightly adjust some of the video’s timing to sync up with the music perfectly
  • Give the finished video to an effects specialist who is going to help me with motion blur, color correction, and other fancy stuff like that

(I’m also second-guessing some of the decisions that I made with the rivals and with the video. There is a small chance that the video could be slightly delayed if I decide to change some of those things.)

In a best-case scenario, the rival video will be out in less than 48 hours, but in a worst-case scenario, it might take about a week to take care of everything named above (if I have to keep asking actresses for new takes, or if the composer / specialist have very little time to work on this project).

As always, thank you very much for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. It’s happening! Rivals are coming! Woohoo! (Also, finally Kokona’s suffering pays off for her. Be happy you twin-drilled cutie).

  2. I’m very excited about this new update! And I also have to question the choices of some rivals (I saw the leaked descriptions of the rivals)
Really if you stick with the rivals expected (from the leak) I hope you include a mode with a different set of rivals, such as one rival also being a yandere
Either way, I am very excited to see the final product of the game, and am more than happy to continue following the development of Yandere Simulator

    • The “SNAP Mode” option has been there for a long time, but it’s not implemented yet and YandereDev hasn’t given any deep information on it.
When asked about the “Promotional Video” where Yandere-chan kills her rival, Senpai and then herself, his answered: “Is this ‘SNAP Mode’? Yes and no. I won’t go any further than that.”

  3. I really love the idea of the Matchmaking elimination method, and it’s a lot more grandiose than I thought it was going to be. I appreciate the work you put into it. My only problem is – and it could just be the way I’m interpreting this – there seems to be a lot to do in a short period of time. You can court the rival once a day, right? I feel as if there should be a bit more “buttering up” before the suitor gets to talk to his crush.

Here’s what I was thinking. Say, the rival was interested in stage plays. Take the suitor to the library and learn about the play. During lunch or during an after school activity, the suitor and Yandere-chan walk by where the rival is, and they’re both talking about the play. This will pique the rival’s interest, and she might even want to talk to him herself.

Rival: “Excuse me. Did you mention [stage play]?”
Suitor: “Yeah… I just got into it yesterday.”

And she might notice if he makes small changes. (“Oh, did you get your ear pierced?” or “Ah. That hair style looks… r-really nice on you.”) Now that I wrote all of this, I realise that this would be a lot to implement and could be a large upheaval of your current system.

My feedback is: I really love this new development, and I think I’ll get more used to it once I’m actually going through the steps. It only seems like a lot hearing about it, but it’s a lot easier to fall into once I’m playing it myself. Thanks for your hard work.

  4. ..c-can someone help me? I downloaded the new build, and everyone else seems able to play it fine..
I can’t talk to any student. At all. Even after they’ve changed shoes.

  5. FINALLY 😀
…Now I will have to go and make some changes to my fanfiction but this is way more funnier than I though it was going to be

Kokona x El Kevin Brayan 2015

  6. Guys, when this update came out all the YouTubers (Veggie Gamer, THAT DUDE [Kubz Scouts], idk about anyone else, but anyway) they did an episode where they didn’t. Kill. Anybody. AT ALL! (the first one ever for all of them). The only video where nobody died. YAAAAAAAY! CELEBRATION AT AKADEMI!!! NOBODY GOT KILLED BY A YOUTUBER TODAY!

    • there are other episodes by jay that did not involve murder i.e Secret Fun Girl Easter Egg, Midori Gurinu Dates a Demon, A Yandere Enlightment, might be others not sure though. though I do believe your right about this being the frst update where no youtuber killed anyone

  7. i doubt you read these but i’ll put it here just in case.
you should have rivals that can be attracted to female students as well. this might even make the matchmaking process even more challenging if they’re attracted to both genders!
i’m hoping that when you implement a female senpai, the straight rivals will change to lesbian rivals too.

  8. I really love this new update =^,-,^= In a sense, you CAN actually win the first week xD Not officially though, sadly enough. but soooooon OwO xD TYSM Yandere-Dev =^,-,^=

BTW I really do hope Kokana can stay. I know she won’t be the test dummy anymore, but I’m really hoping she can stay as a rival, or even just as a regular student. We’ve all gotten to attached to her and it would be sad to see her go xD

Oh…and holy shit. Akademi High needs to have a celebration. All the big youtubers who are known for playing Yandere-Simulator, DIDN’T. KILL. ANYONE. All of them, Kubz-Scouts, Azzman, etc. They all made a video and didn’t kill anyone OwO It’s a miracle xD

  9. I love everything in this new update!
The matchmaking elimination is quite long and complicated, but it’s adorable. I was happy that Riku and Kokona could get together! By the way, I LOVE the new voices, especially Riku’s voice actor. Ryoto sounds epic and Pipi’s voice is lovely.
    Great job here!
Can’t wait for the new rival(s)!

  10. Yandere Dev, Yandere Dev! The panty shot system currently seems like a requirement if you want to try all elimination methods, rather than an assist to cut down on the amount of item-acquiring sidequests if the player doesn’t want to puzzle them all out by themselves. Is this its intended purpose? I would love to be able to discover how to obtain items like the headset or how to steal an answers sheet on my own!

    • agreed! there should be multiple ways of obtaining something–the headset could be found in either the gaming club (you either have to join or steal it to use it) or the audio/visual room and you’d have to raise a stat maybe to be able to use it

like with the lethal posion that’s in the game–you can either buy it from info-chan or raise you chemistry stat so you can steal it from the chem lab

  12. Hi , it’s my first time making a comment here then … Hi !
When I finished seeing the vidio I was like ” OMG ” and there I came into my head like, ” what if the other rival is also manipulated to like the boy ? ” this is just an idea the more I am happy in the way that is making the plot of the story.

I am Brazilian so I apologize if this kind of confused because of translate google , kiss I love your game.

    • to be honest, the boobs are the one thing i want yandev to fix the most. they look so chunky and they just jut out! i can understand anime boob physics but these ones are just ugly 😦

  13. can somebody please tell me who riku’s voice actor is? i’ve been looking for a voice like his for so long, i’d love to have a name on hand for future reference! ;0;

  14. It seems like you really don’t want people to use the matchmaking elimination method. It’s way to complicated, and requires panty shots. For people who want to play the game without using them, matchmaking is not optional.

5 days is not enough for the player to discover who likes the Rival, and what their likes and dislikes are. Also, if you can get the Rival to follow you around that easily, why not just take them to a secluded place and kill them? That seems like it would be way easier. I guess you could argue that in the final game, the Rivals won’t follow you so easily, but at one point or another, there will be a time when they are alone (like if they are going to the bathroom or taking the trash out while the delinquents are absent). That would be the perfect chance to get rid of the rival for good.

Also, how can Ayano, who supposedly has no emotions (other than the ones for Senpai) and who has never experienced love before, help the suitor say the right things? Even if she know the Rivals likes and dislikes, she would not be able to carry the conversation for the suitor.

It feels like you are drifting away from your original concept – this game was supposed to be stealth or social sabotage, but now, it has straight up turned into a dating simulator. The game genre is all over the place.

The matchmaking feature makes the player think, but there are too many things the player needs to analyze and figure out. Let’s say that a Rival is currently in the game, and that you can’t befriend her. You said that the school will have around 100 students. Let’s say that half of them are male, and take Senpai out of the equation. So 49 male students. Kokona has 4 traits that she finds attractive. In order to figure out what your Rival likes about a boy, you would need to follow her around almost non-stop, so that you can figure out what she likes. She would need to pass by all 49 male students in order for you to know which traits she likes, not to mention:

    1) Figure out who is the suitor
    2) Analyze and figure out the traits that the rival finds attractive
    3) Figure out their likes, dislikes, and what to do in order to find out what they are
    4) Train/study with the suitor
    5) Make sure that you don’t screw up the interaction once, or everything will be done for nothing
    6) Make sure that the suitor dresses/changes their look to the one that the Rival finds attractive

You have 5 days to eliminate the Rival using matchmaking – that’s not enough. If you can’t figure everything out by the second day, the matchmaking feature is no longer an option – you would have to either switch between save files, or figure out another way to get rid of the Rival. I understand that it is supposed to be a hard feature, but without resetting the week, watching let’s plays, reading a wiki, or using cheats, it’s close to impossible.

Please, don’t use the excuse of: It’s a video game! You say that you want the game to be taken seriously, and be treated as realistic. Consider either changing things up or simplifying the matchmaking feature.

    • Well, YandereDev wants to give the player tons of options. A pacifist way of eliminating Rivals should definitely be in the game. And what you said about the Matchmaking being complicated, try playing the Pacifist Run and the Genocide Run for Undertale. Genocide is considerably easier to play than Pacifist, but players usually choose Pacifist because that is the choice they made. Going Pacifist in a game where the protagonist is a Yandere, that should definitely be hard. Also, I think YandereDev would make Matchmaking harder, since pairing up people in real life is most likely harder than the in-game Matchmaking we are currently doing in Yandere Simulator. Also, with what you said about Ayano knowing what to say, just like YandereDev said, she can learn and pick up topics from her surroundings. That is why she needs to learn Kokona’s likes and dislikes, so that she can use that to help the suitor make Kokona fall for him. And yes, the concept of the game is Stealth and Social Sabotage, but isn’t Matchmaking also a form of eliminating your Rival in a social way? I mean, this also includes getting information about her social and personal life, so, in a way, Social stuff is included in this elimination method. Also, people will probably want to go Pacifist on some Rivals, like Oka. Yandev just wants to give the players tons of options to eliminate their rival.

      • You’re right, there should be a peaceful way of getting rid of rivals, but matchmaking is too complicated. Even if we take into account the time needed, the topics, and compare it to real life, it would take a lot longer than 4-5 days to make 2 people fall for each other. Another problem is that, compared to the other elimination methods, matchmaking is the most time consuming and difficult of them all. Even expelling your rival is easier than this, and is still somewhat a peaceful way, since no one dies/gets injured. I feel like even players who decide to go for the pacifist route will find this to be a huge chore, rather than an interesting gameplay mechanic.

You mentioned Undertale’s Pacifist route. Another reason why most players decided to go with the Pacifist route is because of the characters. Most characters in Yandere Sim currently don’t have or we don’t know of their personalities, so, other than relying on the way they look, it’s kind of hard to feel like “I want to save this person!”. There is still time for character development of course, but still. And while the Pacifist route is harder in Undertale than the Genocide route, the difference is not that high. The only hard fight in the Genocide route is Sans, and both routes share the difficult ending stage. The Pacifist route is not that difficult either, since, as long as you learn the pattern, you’re good, even if you are a casual player. Speaking of which, I feel like some casual players would also be put off by the matchmaking, considering it is so time consuming and hard.

She can learn about the topics, but that doesn’t mean that she can carry the conversation. For example, I can go and hear a group of students talking about Chemistry. Just because I learned about this topic does not suddenly mean I can go around talking about chemical reactions and doing actual chemistry or teach someone without doing more research on it. Ayano would be in the same position.

I am not denying that people are gonna pick the Pacifist route for someone like Oka. Hell, I would do that myself. But if I had to pick between expelling her or doing matchmaking, I would expel her, 100%. And yes, this, in a way, is Social Sabotage, but this ‘dating sim’ styled interaction, at least for me, feels like I am playing a different game. I was expecting something more original. I am glad he put his own twist on it, but it still doesn’t feel interesting nor does it look fun.

  15. This is my first time making a comment here, I just couldnt help myself. THE LOADING TIME IS PAINFULLY SLOW I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR AN HOUR ITS ONLY BEEN 5.67 PERCENT AND THEN WHEN IT FIIIIIINALLY BECAME FAST IT.. IT.. SAID THAT THE SERVER IS HAVING PROBLEMS.
