Hey, remember Indestructible Rival? I made a sequel!
“YandereDev, you baka! Why are you spending your time making videos like this instead of working on the game?!”
Well, I produced this video in my spare time, and only worked on it if I felt like I had recently made very significant progress on the game. I don’t feel guilty about doing something fun and silly in my spare time…
…but, you know what I do feel guilty about? Easter eggs. I’ll explain.
I think that there are two different Yandere Simulators. There’s the one that exists in reality, and then the one that exists in my mind.
In my mind, Yandere Simulator is a horror game where you play as the monster. The protagonist specializes in sabotaging other peoples’ lives using every tool available to her, whether it’s gossiping, bullying, kidnapping, or worse. There is no boundary that the protagonist won’t cross; psychological torture, animal cruelty, and outright murder are all viable options, as long as they get her closer to what she wants.
In my mind, Yandere Simulator is a stealth game, but not a traditional stealth game; it’s a social stealth game. It’s not about hiding around corners…it’s about hiding in plain sight. You must hide your true nature so that nobody learns you are a bloodthirsty psychopath. You must hide your intentions so that nobody will suspect that you’re about to spill their blood. You must hide the truth from people so that you can deceive and manipulate them.
However, the Yandere Simulator that exists in reality is something quite different.
Working on such a grim, dark, and morbid game can get very tiresome, so sometimes I briefly pause development and create silly things just for fun. If I didn’t take short breaks to relax and create humorous things, I’d probably go insane from spending hundreds of hours working on such a morbid game! My humorous “easter eggs” have resulted in many smiles and laughs…but they have also had an unintended side-effect.
A “game” is something that has win conditions and loss conditions. It is currently impossible to “win” Yandere Simulator; in other words, it doesn’t even qualify as a game right now! Because Yandere Simulator is so far from completion, the easter eggs are some of the only ways to enjoy Yandere Sim. Unfortunately, the silly content has received far more attention than I ever anticipated, and has become a part of the game’s identity.
As a result, Yandere Simulator is often perceived as a joke game or “meme game”, which is the exact opposite of what I want. I have only myself to blame for this, since I’m the one who put in so many goofy easter eggs.
The solution may be to completely re-brand Yandere Simulator. To create the “horror game vibe” that I’ve always wanted it to have, many aspects of the game may need to change; the color scheme, the user interface, the soundtrack, and everything else that gives a game its “look and feel”. I’m going to focus on gameplay for the remainder of 2016…but, in 2017, the game’s branding may change completely.
This point in time – while Yandere Simulator is still regarded as a “joke game / meme game” – is the only point in time when it will be appropriate for me to produce “silly” content. After the Great Rebranding, I’ll have to abstain from silly “just for fun” stuff. So, before that time comes, I wanted to have a little fun, and produce a video that celebrates Yandere Simulator’s goofy side…and that’s where “Indestructible Rival 2” came from.
In short, this may be the last – or one of the last – “silly” videos that I produce, as part of my effort to stop producing content that would result in a “meme game” stigma.
With all of that said, I fully acknowledge the possibility that I could alienate a huge chunk of the game’s fanbase by rebranding the game. A lot of people probably became fans of the game because of the current balance of whimsical content and dark content, and wouldn’t find the game appealing if it moved too far in a different direction. This is something that I’m very concerned about, so this is a decision that I won’t be making without feedback.
Well, if you’ve been following this game’s development for a while, then you probably know what I like to do in situations like this…yes, that’s right:
It’s poll time!

I never mentioned this earlier, but…I do hope he doesn’t mix up “dark” as “2edgy4u”.
The best thing about a horror game is to make people wonder…
Visuals are important as well, but let’s take a look at one of my favorite horror games for visuals: Eversion!
“What? But headspace, you idiot, that’s a 2d platformer!”
A 2d platformer that lures the unsuspecting in with cute, happy, Kirby level cuteness…before slowly devolving into something more sinister and visceral. Especially that true ending.
If you make something 100% dark, it comes off as laughable and “2edgy4u”. It makes people not take it seriously whatsoever. (Shadow the Hedgehog comes to mind. Sorry to fans of that game, but…lmao.)
So, the main voting on the poll makes me very happy… it’s showing that everyone would prefer more serious aspects, but they do understand that in order for it to work, you need to keep some funny material. It makes people not expect the true horror that awaits them. This is a writing lesson some of us were taught…it keeps the story interesting.
I personally adore the pun names. And, punny names have been used in more upbeat, happy series…so it might just lure people in the way Yandev would like.
That, and I love puns. Who’d a thunk it.
I know this won’t be read, but since everyone else is putting their opinion, I dropped mine, too.
Please, don’t misunderstand, however. I don’t want the game to be more goofy than it is serious. I just relate to existing worlds of this nature. Higurashi and School Days come to mind when you say “happy go lucky slice of life…is just an illusion, the true side is horror and dark”.
I completely agree with you! All of these other people to me don’t understand that this is meant to be a game where you are a monster. You are apathetic. You only care about your senpai. Nothing else matters. No one else matters (as mentioned in the game intro). And “2edgy4u” is extremely cringe worthy. I want something that pulls you in and knocks you off guard mentally, the way a horror game would. Which is probably why so many people enjoyed the FNAF series because of the innocence of the what seems like a survival game that took a very, very, very bad turn….and you didn’t even know it would. I also enjoy the puns.
All in all, this game is developing well. I want it to turn out the way YandereDev imagines it. Its okay with some humor, though keep it minimal, or it will destroy the entire concept of the game. If certain people don’t like the game, they don’t have to play or can find their own means of trying maintain the “social stealth” aspect of the game. No one will probably read this either. But honestly, I don’t care.
This is my first time commenting on anything on the internet. I wrote a comment, but I am not sure if it went through… Well, if not, know that I completely agree with you
Wonderfully put!
IMHO the best way to convey that is “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, an anime about magical girls, that starts cute and girly and then develops into a mindfuck, my point is, the best way to add “shock value” or to create an interesting twist, or in other words, to maximize the deranged, psychotic and twisted potential of the game is to show first a reality where these traits doesn’t exists and you get involved with the characters and the world. Then throw a proverbial fecal matter into a rapid spinning philosophical metal blades.
Omg that would be amazing!!! I loved the magical girls
I think some jokes and fun can take player or watcher in other case from stereotype than player or watcher don’t get bored from all horror atmospere. Like i think when i laughs sometimes when i watching Hellsing and i think it work. When i have fun sometimes it make game or movie to enjoy serious part and don’t get bored. So right combination of Serious and some fun or just positive part can make peoples be still interested in that serious part. 🙂
oh i agree. i prefer where it seems simple in the beginning but it slowly because more and more demented as time flows. the first time a murder happens, you’re careful because you don’t want to get caught but as you get confident, that’s when things take a darker turn. much darker. especially as you learn more tricks. personally i want the game to get darker as you progress, yeah some subtle easter eggs and puns are always a nice surprise but i wanna find out what new methods can be used too.
If you want to keep producing some humorous side content I think you will be ok if you put it on a location on the site, on your youtube channel, or put it a separate channel if you crave the extra separation. Just look at how many serious works have humorous comics and such dedicated to them?
No. That won’t work.
That is just like working another email. It’s time consuming, im sure.
If the game’s too dark, I end up mocking how serious it’s trying to be. A little bit of humor brings out the darkness so you can take it seriously. Like the Joker. The small bit of humor gives you an appropriate reference point of how messed up the situation is.
Looks like a good 93% of people prefer the dark side, according to the poll. Frankly, I am one of them who things, while a little silliness is fine, would prefer a darker game. There are plenty of silly anime games out there (Gal Gun, anybody?), and I do enjoy dark anime. I also love a good story, and too many silly features may take away from the story-telling aspects. I don’t think his game would come off as laughable edgy, honestly. This isn’t Hatred, where you just go around killing people just because the game tells you to. The premise, in and of itself, allows enough lightheartedness. It’s a happy, bustling high school with the average amount of gossip, crushing on boys, friend-making and teenage drama you would expect. Heck, one of the elimination methods is based on this overlaying appearance: Matchmaking. If you wanted, you could just see this game as a time trialed match making game to make sure your lover stays single for you.
But underneath there are secrets, a student caught in the grips of debt and compensated dating (Kokona), a spoiled brat who buys her popularity with ethically dirty money (Miss Ronshaku), a club dedicated to summoning a murderous demon (the Occult Club), a half-crazed, paranoia driven student who constantly stalks others (Oka spying on the Basu sisters), a group of thuggish delinquents terrorizing students (the delinquents), the potential of bullying so drastic that it could drive a person to suicide (the elimination method), a psychotic killer on the loose (you!), a student with access to weapons and contraband, doling them out of grotesque payment (Info-Chan and panty shots). Face it, Yan-Chan isn’t the only monster in this school, but no one is sitting around brooding over their “deeply deprived, tortured souls”. They’re acting like their monstrous ways are normal, and they just act upon their impulses. So I think the game can be dark without being dumb.
I do think that, perhaps, several of the easter eggs for go. Not that I dislike, them, but they may cause trouble. Basically, Yandere Dev may want to remove the references, such as those from Undertale, Attack on Titan, Captain Falcon, etc. Copyright striking is at an all time high, and while I don’t think naming the game Lovesick will result in anything bad, having references to licenses you don’t own may come back to haunt him later, even if it’s legal (reviewing movies are legal, but reviewers still get struck all the time). His silly features should be totally original [like the llama hat], not from any owned property [like the rage faces mask], or so vague, a claim of infringement wouldn’t possibly hold up in court (Ex. If you put a big pink bow like Hello Kitty’s as an accessory, I doubt Sanrio would bother you about it, since big pink bows are found on a lot of other characters [Blossom from PPG, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Helga Pataki, Marie from The Aristocats, general clip art of cats and dogs, etc]). He could simply re-skin the ones he desperately wants to keep and scrap the rest as a sort of “cleaning out the closet”.
Also, he should probably get rid of any easter egg that grants an OP power, or at least make those super hard to find. The reasoning behind that is that the player could merely go into Cirno mode, kill the rival, and change back, easily getting away with murder and turning the game into a chore. That’s just one example
However, in the end, I trust that Yandere Dev will create the game he wants, and that it will turn out perfectly. Also… please re-brand the game. Perhaps not right now, but before you publish it, re-brand it. I am 100% for it. A new coat of paint may be what the games needs to come into it’s own.
Beg parson, but has anyone suddenly been having problems with the yandere simulator webstie? I went to visit it just now, and my McAffee suddenly warned me that it was dangerous. If anyone else has had anything like that, please let me know.
Now that you mention it, yeah. Webroot is calling it a “moderate risk.” Is it just because the program doesn’t have a certificate (assuming that’s still true)?
Not sure; I just know a while back, I visited with no problems. But today, I suddenly get warnings.
I fully support the rebranding of Yandere Simulator. It is meant to be a stealth game with a horror feel to it, but at this point, it doesn’t really come across that way. Giving it a new name (that isn’t associated with “simulator” joke games) would help with the reputation, along with referring to Yandere-chan and Senpai with actual names. I’m not a game developer, but I’m a fan of horror games, and would like to give some advice based on my experiences as a player.
The easter eggs are a problem in their current form. Having all of these silly options available would ruin the mood of the game. Easter eggs could be worked into the final product somehow, but there are three major things that would need to be changed about them.
1. There are way too many of them. It makes it seem like easter eggs are the main focus of the game, which ultimately leads to it being labeled as a “meme game”. Plus, a lot of the time spent on creating new easter eggs could have been used for productively.
2. They make the player way too powerful. If they worked the same way in the final game, there would be no need to play the game the way it is meant to be played. What is the point of stealth if you can just turn into Sans from Undertale and kill everyone? This ties into my third point.
3. They are way too accessible. In the game’s current form, the player can just open up a menu and access any option that they want. Easter eggs in video games are meant to be hidden, otherwise they aren’t really “easter eggs” at all, just features. It would be a lot better if the customization options could be unlocked by achieving certain things, which could give the player an incentive to replay the game in different ways until they’ve unlocked everything. The transformations (for example: Sans, Cirno, Captain Falcon) shouldn’t be in the normal game mode. If they are in the final game at all, they should only be in a “joke mode” that can be unlocked by beating or getting 100% completion in the main game.
Another thing that needs to be considered is how YanSim could be changed to make it feel like a more serious horror game. Removing the easter eggs or changing the way they work would help, but there is more to it than that. You mentioned revamping the appearance and soundtrack, which I think is a good idea. The atmosphere of a game has a notable influence on a player’s experience. Atmosphere alone isn’t enough to make a game feel dark and disturbing. In most horror games, there is an almost constant sense of danger. The player is either being pursued by something, or knows that something could come out and attack them at any moment. It can also play into a feeling of helplessness, if there is no way to actually kill the enemies. However, YanSim is different from these games because you are not playing as the person being pursued, you are playing as the monster. There isn’t a real sense of danger (besides getting caught, but that doesn’t provoke horror) because you are the danger. What could make a game like this the most disturbing is to see the effects of your actions. It would cause a different type of horror to see how the atmosphere of the school changes each time someone is found dead, how people react to what you do (for example: how broken the loanshark’s daughter looks when she comes back to school after you kidnap her), and how terrified the students become when they realize that there is a serial killer at their school. The horror aspect would come from the realization of the actions the player commits. If there is a focus on that, the game would be a lot more disturbing
On one last note, I think the panty shots give the game a certain… reputation. I’m not opposed to sexual content when it’s implemented well, but it doesn’t seem that way to me in this case. Panty shots are such a common ecchi trope, and a joke in anime in general, so having a large part of the game revolve around taking pictures of panties to trade for favors doesn’t seem like a good idea. It makes people less likely to take the game seriously because they are reminded of all of the anime that use that concept as a joke.
I agree with most of what you said especially about the Easter eggs , however I think that the whimsical colors , soundtracks and anime concept is the one thing that differentiates yandere sim from every other game in the market. Which is a good thing because it like nothing I have ever played before it’s unique.
I think the thing than player can have very terrible troubles includes have been expelled for taking panty shots. I mean when that when studens get caught of Yandere-chan taking panty shots. They have been insulted and call teacher and teacher takes you to the principal or councler and you can have problems what can include get suspected for day or more or worst when get this more times you cen get expelled. So that thing when they catch you when taking panty shots and player have been see they are insulted and more it can damage your reputation because your perv. So that think player can’t just take panty shots like fun in anime because it cause serious problems make this activity feel more danger and not that funny. So player must have been carful and not do things like croutch under level and just taking shots. So can be feature for this like you can try take shot without aim my look to phone or take a shot in second when they dind focus and hide it by do like you searching for something so they not looks at you and just get insulted in that moment.
My take on the balance between dark and whimsical: you should keep the easter eggs that you activate, as the player, and maybe add some easter egg dialogue between students, like how you currently have Midori constantly emailing you when she’s standing on the roof, but from there, go for the creepy vibe you currently have with the music and the sanity, where the more insane Yandere-Chan gets, the more dark the music grows. Go for the dark disguised in the light.
I think of Metal Gear Solid. A mostly serious game series, with jokes here and there. Aim for that kind of balance!
I think it would make sense that some students would and should continue their routine, oblivious to the students around them disappearing (unless of course the disappearance affects them personally/directly) as sort of a commentary on how stupid some people can be. If everybody reacts to every atmosphere or long term situation with the same awareness of what is going on, it looks uncanny/unnatural. Like they are taking que’s from a stage director or something.
If you can mix up the points at which students begin noticing something being wrong, I think the game would feel more real than it currently is. Still, stuff that seems light-hearted can be still happen, but sound like it’s deliberately dulled if the school’s atmosphere has dropped, to kind of highlight that the player is more focused on what people are doing instead of what they are saying, whereas if the school’s atmosphere is at maximum then the player should be able to hear more effectively.
I’m just shooting idea’s here, but I wanted to basically say that if the game is all edge all the time, then you’ll end up with something that at best seems unnatural.
Additionally, there are many people who deal with fear and grief by trying to keep positive, and joking about things. It doesn’t require that people be “stupid” to keep their spirits higher.
The wacky meme humor should be left for extra modes outside of the main campaingn in the final product.
The main campaign, should have light hearted moments, not only to remember you can get a golden ending but also to remember that black is darker when contrasted to light. Drop their guards down, contrast a mundane happy life with sadness and horror.
Yandere simulator is a dark game with light elements and a possible light ending .
Just to contrast think of some games that seem light and have very horrifying stuff in them. Disgaea 2 darkest ending, Soul Nomad and The Witch and the Hundred Knight for example.
I’d prefer not rebounding I like how deceptively cute it is.
This is Yandere Simulator and the colour scheme and cutesy stuff is the dere part.
Rebranding *
Where’s the new update??
Too bad I cant watch the update early.I have school T^T
well if it isn’t out now we have a chance at 6:00 AM
‘
The video is trending in Youtube. And I think if YandereDev releases the videos about the rivals it will become trending too xD ( Its just my opinion)
I hope it comes out tonight but i can wait as long as it takes
Hi, I can’t wait for the next build
So you said you needed darker elements for the game, but I noticed something that actually happens in Japanese schools that’s really creepy and edgy. A thing I found often in manga dramas about high school and some games and tv series is that some girls will persuade boys to rape their rivals or at least sexually harrass or beat them. considering how “dark” Yandere-chan is, realistically it wouldn’t seem an impossible option for her. Just putting it there, though I doubt it would ever become a feature considering 1) Yandere tries to hide her nature from EVERYONE, 2) Super controversial and offensive (especially to past victims of harrassment). That said I just wanted to mention that it is a thing that happens and actually happened in my high school when girls were jealous of a certain popular girl. it also of course ruined the girl’s reputation. And it’s not “rare” either. It just popped into my mind when you mentioned social bullying and whatnot.
Awesomeness I hope that could be a featured elimination method PS it’s just soon mean .
I think the build will come out the 15th
yandere dev said the 7th
He said, he will try to have it done on the 7th. I think he just needs some more time.
Where is the new freaking update?!!
I hope when it’s done, we’ll have the almost entirely serious (with minor easter eggs) game that was intended, with some kind of unlockable mode with all the whimsical stuff we have come to quite enjoy. IE, Love sick with a “yandare sim” mode you can unlock. Perhaps with more of the fun easter eggs coming as you win the game in different ways?
Either way, I’m here for the original vision, I’m just also fond of hiding very whimsical fin in otherwise very dark games. It would be like unlocking Big Head mode in Silent Hill. It gets that extra “something” /because/ the game is normally serious and dark.
OMG when is the game gonna be updated?!!
Here is what I think.
1) MAKE A RIVALS VIDEO NOW!!
2) make a build on the 15+ a video like he always dose.
He should do this this week.
3) add in the rivals but dont make them rivals. ( not osana, senpia sister)
4) start adding weeks.
5) add all club leaders.
6)add new people
I think he should add these in by 9/15/16 or 10/1/16 or 11/15/16
i forgot one last thing.
7) add in a new dbug rival on the next week so we can see how the final game is
8) add in al the club rooms everything they need (props)
the rest well u could do whenever.
That is really hard ( ̄(工) ̄) I used to write programs and that should take AT LEAST until Christmas time… Unless he is already working on it ( ̄▽ ̄)
lol he most likely has because he shows of work thats not in the game for example the video of osana take the trash to the frunis but it aint in the game so most like he has but he dosent want to relese it due to alot of thing witch i conot say becuse he is the YANDERE YANDERE YANDERE and his wife/gf/crush is his senpi and also he has a life.
Yes , probably true
the new build may take a while becuse of MATCH
MAGING
I think the thing the people demanding a darker tone seem to be missing is the fact that the game evolves and becomes darker based on your actions. The player already controls how the tone changes and to which levels. To me now when I read requests for the game to be darker and more serious, The translation that comes out for me is largely and overwhelmingly summarized as:
They seem to want to see more mechanics, elimination methods and progress, in that vein at least! Or it’s that they hunger for more time in the sandbox or a new rival. The complaints are just ‘less of the easter eggs’ that YD is adding to keep himself sane. (These would exist with or without people getting to see them.) Most non gameplay related complaints along the lines of the game still too similar to how it was X timeframe ago, so people are only checking in occasionally until they see a update new and big enough to reel them back in.
Nobody is seemingly objecting to the colour filled and charming start of the game! or seemingly anything about the tone now I really look through the comments. It’s mostly all about wanting to see more progress in terms of expanded gameplay and the complaints about ‘taking the silly out’ is really more a discussion about the end product than what needs to be done to a sandbox build.
We the audience gain nothing if YD is just keeping his sanity inducing easter eggs home and out of the playpit to create some kind final game appeal.
I feel that the repercussions/tone thing however may not be hitting home for people because they are continuously playing in the first week. My suggestion to YD would be to try pushing out some kind of 3-5 week mode where people can actually experience play through some weeks and see their failings and actions playing out in the deepening mood and settings changes of the school. If the audience gets a proper look at serious gameplay over time, turning animeschool101 into grimdark horror highschool. This might make for a more reasoned and educated decision on what they would like a final product to look like.
Even with my own preferences and ideas about what I like. I’d like to withhold my judgement until I’ve actually seen some kind of real glimpse of what YD’s intent or vision actually was, or to experience the repercussions of playing badly and having non game-over ramifications where things would get harder as students became more afraid and less trusting. The biggest limiting factor still in place (for years now) is that we’re still in week 1 sandbox and dealing with poor Kokona. The grim and serious is already there behind the curtain, and has been planned out for a really long time. But we aren’t really getting to experience it just yet.
I actually agree with you 100%
In my opinion I think the only thing that needs to change is the characters yandere chan interaction with other students. Currently as a protagonist she doesn’t have to try hard enough to not get caught or appear normal. A real psychopath has to constantly be on the look out for social cues to not appear weird alof or crazy or emotionaly dead.Currently all she has to do is not get caught red handed with a weapon. may be if she had interaction with a group of girls as a part of the routine. currently the character is a loner which should make her a prime suspect. her true nature should slip out occasionally where she would have to do damage control lie, minpulate and sabotage others ,like in story telling survial games. Yan-chan should have options to interact and respond also characters should remember her responses making them like or not like her trust her or distrust her. But everyone shouldn’t like her because she passed out hot dogs
Yes there still no update
GAME?!!!
Where’s the freaking update seriously??
he’s already said that updates will probably take longer now so just chill out jfc
i cant
Okay…
Is there going to be an update any time soon?
no lol idk
Have you ever thought about doing something similar to what Bethesda did with Fallout where you could choose the wild wasteland perk (which added a bunch of silly things to the game) in the beginning so if you want silly and dark you got it, but if you want straight up serious dark you can have that too.
And though it would be more work, it would help you to not alienate your fan base as well as bring your vision for the game to life.
I’m still waiting and i’m bored (-_-)
lol me 2.
The main problem is that the basic premise of the whole game is silly–the whole “Yandere” and “Senpai” thing, the setting in a Japanese high school, just the fact that it’s filled with these Wapanese buzz words and is built off a meme-level character archetype to begin with–it’s impossible to fully get away from the silliness unless you completely throw away the “Yandere Simulator” business and have it be about a girl who happens to have Yandere characteristics but is not directly labeled a “Yandere”. Which is not what I think you want, so the best route is probably to embrace the silly meme-ish parts (like what you’re doing now) while adding in enough dark content to have people recognize it as something else too.
yandere and senpai name are not there names.
senpai means upper class-men
yandere means lovesick
when the finnal game comes out there real names will be there names or whenever he puts them
My personal view first.
I have not volunteered or donated anything so take everythin in this part with a grain of salt.
I came to know about YandereSimulator through all the sillyness and Meme related stuff out there, but i came to like and take serious interest in your game by your videos on youtube, where you did a great job to convey what yandere simulator is supposed to be in its later Stages. I personaly dont mind if you have fun, with eastereggs and stuff, but maybe your donators will take another aproach on it, i dont know. I just think if you have fun at programming , you will do better in general. if this means eastereggs then so be it.
Less personal.
I still think you have a good point and your decision is justified for now, it shuld be most effective to make clear what your game is supposed to be, once and for all and experiencable for everyone by implementing the grim and dark sinde of YandereSimulator in the months to come , so everyone can see a progression into the dark side of Yanderes. maybe later you can start adding eastereggs for your enjoyment later on, but at the moment it realy culd be the best if you focus on the dark theme of YandereSimulator entirely for some time.
where is the update baka!!!!!!!!
Does anyone else feel that the update wont come until the 15th? Idc when it comes out im just curious when you guys think it will come out
I think the Dev should just postpone it until the 15th. That way he can implement more things and get his schedule back.
The point to take away is: There is a great demand for a game where you play as an anime high schooler, running around in a world filled with jokes and memes.
So, if any devs out there need a marketable idea…
Only you has of you Think are you doing the game it’s best of your ideas
I believe I remember Yandere Dev saying that all the Easter Eggs will be removed in the final game. As bug reporters and fans who play on the build, we should use them like he does. Taking a break from the beautifully morbid game that us, as a community, are playing. (Or creating) Keep up that great work, Alex!
The sad thing is that i dont think Yandere Dev is gonna read any of these peoples comments bc he only reads them if he mentions that he will read the comments in the post, poor people who typed an essay
it’s because all the people post more anyone of that people for that reason
I personally think that while the game will shape into a darker game on its own, it would take away from what it is to force that. What I love about yandere simulator is that you have fun while doing all the things in it, even the horrible, morbid things. I absolutely loathe tedious games that take themselves too seriously and have a very linear and rigid way of playing. I think if you force the game to be too dark to fit with that image you have of it, it might lose what makes it so enjoyable. While Yandere Sim is not a funny game by a long stretch, it should still have fun value and shouldnt purely set out to be as dark as possible. I kinda also feel like with the graphics possible for this game, that taking it too seriously and trying to make it overly dark and hyperrealistic would clash with the visuals. Yandere Sim is great to me because you have this game, with cute characters, calm music, a cutesywutesy icon, a name that is synonymous with staple ‘funny’ games like Goat Simulator, but when you get into that rabbit hole it’s a gloriously manic game where you can do some really messed up things for really messed up reasons. I friggen love that about this game, and I don’t think it would do this game justice to try to force it to be too serious, though it should be less easter-eggy and the fun should come from the main game itself, I think it helps the game to have little distractions and fun things 🙂 We have hundreds of games that set out to be horrors, and are so horror-ish that they kinda fall flat. Yandere sim is not a game like that, and I think going for a more “rabbit warren” style would be a good idea.
A rabbit warren is laid out with one starting hole, but loads of different paths the rabbit could take when it goes in. From a game perspective, this means that players should be able to decide whether they want to be really fucked up, or if they want to play the game as light as they can, just for a bit of casual fun. This doesnt mean the game should deliberately make itself goofy, but there should be maybe ways to keep the game balanced like how it is now, but also ways to make it darker. Like in fallout, where if you kill people who you don’t NEED to kill, or go for the most violent option in conflicts, the game gets darker and darker, but it’s still possible to play the game without doing that, which still means the game has a lot of dark elements, but it’s not quite so bad.
PS: I feel yandere sim fits quite nicely with ideas anime like Higurashi, Gakkou Gurashi, School Days, Madoka Magica, etc have, where it starts off cute and moe and nice but quickly can and does get darker, and in the case of Higurashi and Gakkou Gurashi, even throughout that darkness there are little things to make them fun and enjoyable still, even with all the darkness ^w^
P.PS: Sorry if i’ve been repetitive, i’m tired and it’s 4am

I’m still waiting and I’m bored..
As someone who started out as a fan but has been questioning whether this game will really deliver on its promise, especially after the dev’s 20 min video complaining about emails and the 3 very shoddy ideas (read: shoddy, not controversial) the dev proposed lately, here are my sincere thoughts in the hopes that YanSim will get closer to the game I and many players imagine it could be:
1. Focus fully on getting the core mechanics done first. Some of these ideas are ones the dev has probably gotten way back in 2014 and are just waiting to be implemented. Get all that core gameplay and first canon rival done ASAP, with actual win and lose conditions, and only then will people actually have some form of a demo to give a more proper/sufficient review of the game’s tone and challenges. This sandbox atm is not a good way to get a feel for the tone of the game, especially when we are constantly bombarded with extraneous ideas by the dev and his fans that may not be coherent with the intended tone and core mechanics of YanSim. What the game needs most now is not “new ideas” or a “rebranding”, but “feedback” for the core mechanics that were proposed way back in 2014, which while form a solid base for the game, have still yet to be fully implemented and fine-tuned.
– Kokona’s stuff is also not “canon” to my knowledge, which makes me question whether all the time spent on her cut-scenes/voiced dialogue/extra presentation etc. is really needed. In fact, I worry every presentation of the mechanics with Kokona so far may not give players a good estimate of how a canon experience against canon rivals might be. I reiterate that we need to have an experience of core gameplay with at least one canon rival in order for us to give sufficient ideas of YanSim not as a sandbox, but as a game.
2. This means cutting out all the extra fat. This also means FORGETTING ABOUT THE EASTER EGGS COMPLETELY. Arguably, YanSim may have only gotten the popularity it has by having its buggy and meme-filled builds played by popular YTbers, but I doubt this is what players looking for an immersive, challenging, and fun gaming experience want. If YanSim is to be free from its already famous/infamous meme-game status, memes have to be thrown to the wayside 100%. Even consider removing Easter Eggs entirely, and just focus on selling the appeal and challenge of the core gameplay. The Easter Eggs are not what will sell the game. Ideally, YanSim’s challenging, immersive, and rewarding gameplay should carry all that on its own.
I’ve always seen YandereSim as a fun anime-styled game with predominantly horror (cuz yandere) and then a bit of stealth elements, being as something not too serious but thrilling and fun all the way, perhaps poking fun at anime stereotypes all the while. But I greatly feel we cannot truly judge the tone without having a demo of canon core gameplay with a canon rival. And I can only wait for when I an all avid fans of YanSim the game would be given the chance to finally test that.
We cannot have a good judgment of YanSim AS A GAME without all core mechanics and at least one canon rival to beta test how a canon experience of YanSim would be. I am not directly questioning Yanderedev’s credentials and credibility to produce this game, nor do I wish to discourage Yanderedev and his band of hardworking, skillful, and generous volunteers who have been providing Yanderedev with the necessary assets, voiceovers, music, etc. to his game for free, with Druelbozo being the only volunteer Yanderedev has ever paid but has unfortunately left. I am interested solely in YanSim as a game. Not as a sandbox. Not as a “fad” that is trending atm predominantly due to the meme-status it has received. But as an immersive, challenging, memorable, and fun game.
All we can do now is sit and wait for the update to come out soon, ive watched all of the videos on his youtube twice to pass time gg to me xD
I can’t believe 773 people wanted this to be a full on joke game, after Yandere Dev literally poured 2 years of his life and dreams into this game… (。-_-。)
OMG I’m still waiting and there still nothing 😂
I wonder when the new update came out? Keep your work YanDev-senpai 😆
🙂 😀 -_- 😦 ;(
