Hey, remember Indestructible Rival? I made a sequel!
“YandereDev, you baka! Why are you spending your time making videos like this instead of working on the game?!”
Well, I produced this video in my spare time, and only worked on it if I felt like I had recently made very significant progress on the game. I don’t feel guilty about doing something fun and silly in my spare time…
…but, you know what I do feel guilty about? Easter eggs. I’ll explain.
I think that there are two different Yandere Simulators. There’s the one that exists in reality, and then the one that exists in my mind.
In my mind, Yandere Simulator is a horror game where you play as the monster. The protagonist specializes in sabotaging other peoples’ lives using every tool available to her, whether it’s gossiping, bullying, kidnapping, or worse. There is no boundary that the protagonist won’t cross; psychological torture, animal cruelty, and outright murder are all viable options, as long as they get her closer to what she wants.
In my mind, Yandere Simulator is a stealth game, but not a traditional stealth game; it’s a social stealth game. It’s not about hiding around corners…it’s about hiding in plain sight. You must hide your true nature so that nobody learns you are a bloodthirsty psychopath. You must hide your intentions so that nobody will suspect that you’re about to spill their blood. You must hide the truth from people so that you can deceive and manipulate them.
However, the Yandere Simulator that exists in reality is something quite different.
Working on such a grim, dark, and morbid game can get very tiresome, so sometimes I briefly pause development and create silly things just for fun. If I didn’t take short breaks to relax and create humorous things, I’d probably go insane from spending hundreds of hours working on such a morbid game! My humorous “easter eggs” have resulted in many smiles and laughs…but they have also had an unintended side-effect.
A “game” is something that has win conditions and loss conditions. It is currently impossible to “win” Yandere Simulator; in other words, it doesn’t even qualify as a game right now! Because Yandere Simulator is so far from completion, the easter eggs are some of the only ways to enjoy Yandere Sim. Unfortunately, the silly content has received far more attention than I ever anticipated, and has become a part of the game’s identity.
As a result, Yandere Simulator is often perceived as a joke game or “meme game”, which is the exact opposite of what I want. I have only myself to blame for this, since I’m the one who put in so many goofy easter eggs.
The solution may be to completely re-brand Yandere Simulator. To create the “horror game vibe” that I’ve always wanted it to have, many aspects of the game may need to change; the color scheme, the user interface, the soundtrack, and everything else that gives a game its “look and feel”. I’m going to focus on gameplay for the remainder of 2016…but, in 2017, the game’s branding may change completely.
This point in time – while Yandere Simulator is still regarded as a “joke game / meme game” – is the only point in time when it will be appropriate for me to produce “silly” content. After the Great Rebranding, I’ll have to abstain from silly “just for fun” stuff. So, before that time comes, I wanted to have a little fun, and produce a video that celebrates Yandere Simulator’s goofy side…and that’s where “Indestructible Rival 2” came from.
In short, this may be the last – or one of the last – “silly” videos that I produce, as part of my effort to stop producing content that would result in a “meme game” stigma.
With all of that said, I fully acknowledge the possibility that I could alienate a huge chunk of the game’s fanbase by rebranding the game. A lot of people probably became fans of the game because of the current balance of whimsical content and dark content, and wouldn’t find the game appealing if it moved too far in a different direction. This is something that I’m very concerned about, so this is a decision that I won’t be making without feedback.
Well, if you’ve been following this game’s development for a while, then you probably know what I like to do in situations like this…yes, that’s right:
It’s poll time!

I think it’s a nice balance.
But, I like a game where I can go really ridiculous to really serious.
Hey, just to get a post on the top, I put this here, but look at the bottom YandereDev, in the case that it might be important, due to copyright, since the YouTube video I linked is not released by you, but has the same title and animation. I am seriously concerned about copyright infringement. It is not right. No, I am not a lawyer or someone like that. Otherwise I would not be on YouTube.
This video was hilarious! I love it. One of these days, we WILL kill rival-chan.
Unless she’s taken out before we can kill her.
But if she’s taken out we wouldn’t need to kill her ’cause she will be dead.
We won’t.
Completely understandable and agreeable. Although many would miss the laughs, it’s about time Yandere Simulator show its true colors.
I do think it needs to have a bit of humor… I mean, even some dark and grim Anime have humorous scenes, like Mirai Nikki.
I’m pretty sure it will have a bit of humour. Like the suitor cutscenes, rival cutscenes etc.
Mirai nikki is a perfect example, and I think yandere Dev should add tiny tiny easter eggs for making it less dark, but to make the player freak out confused as to why there is humour in a dark game. Make it kinda dark humour too, so it’s more freaky for players, and I’d LOVE that. I mean Dev’s not going to see this comment, but I still think it’s important to have at least a try to get my opinion through. If you read this, thank you yandere Dev or whoever you are.
I think its ok so have some humour in a horro game because it would get boring if its just seriousness and besides its suppose to be like anime and anime has a lot of humour and sometimes very dark humour too
Humor* horror* i cant spell atm xD
Humour and humor are both correct.
I feel like once the game is rebranded, through the trials and errors to gain little achievements for the game. I think as a way to look back and remember the game’s starting development is to keep atleast just a few of the easter eggs in. Just to pay it homage and to give many of the fans who’ve followed the game from beginning to end a little bit of credit as well. I personally love the easter eggs, and I love the game’s serious development. I just hope I don’t see these easter eggs suddenly disappear and be seen as things that are ultimately “dumb”.
Also, I think Yandere Simulator will always be considered a meme game in everyone’s hearts. ❤
A meme game, but the good type of meme game ❤
A very dark, horrific, meme game ❤ xD
I live and breathe memes. Do what is the most fun for you.
Having the darkest type of game possible with a FEW Easter eggs is quite nice, however making the game entirely morbid would definitely push alot of your audience away. maybe there could be a way to make the Easter eggs optional when the final game comes out, as well as how censored do you want the game where you can toggle how mature you want your gameplay (like in the settings) to be if this is somehow implemented I think you have a very good chance at making both sides happy. Tell me why you guys think ❤
I like the idea to change to level of morbidness
The game should be mostly serious. But if you want to create some silly content, okay. Some silly things are perfect. Like Easter Eggs. I love this game because it is different from other games. So… By the way, when the new update will comes ?
were was the rivals video? this was good but i want the rivals video so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😦 😦 😦
Calm down. He’ll release it sometime during late August.
I know i just kneed 2 know so badly like badly.
he need to have it on at leasr by 8/11/16
I just look at the blog everyday. Even if there’s nothing new, it’s become a habit.
Makes seeing new things exciting. Expect nothing and get something. Win/win.
In fact, @Dominique summed it up great.
It’s like he knows exactly how we are at all times, and just can’t help but poke fun.
i know just how you’re feeling i want it so badly that last picture with that anime manga girl wanting drugs/update was soooooo me
I think it should be totally serious, as you intended.
……Like the show Dexter, where it is never blatantly funny, but just the fact that he is a cunning serial killer pretending to live a normal life as a crime scene investigator is hilarious.
Omg, my parents were watching that today. I think you’re freaking right.
Agreed
There’s no need to wipe out all the lighter and sillier stuff, just put in a box and let people play with it when they feel like it. If you make the game too dark, you run into the problem of Darkness Induced Apathy, even when you’re the darkness. Think of it like this: Walter White can’t be in Heisenberg mode 24/7 because then you have a glaring badass dealing with a mixed up pizza order with lines like “who are you talking to right now? Who is it you think you see? Do you know how much I make a year? I mean, even if I told you, you wouldn’t believe it. Do you know what would happen if I suddenly decided to stop going into work? A business big enough that it could be listed on the NASDAQ goes belly up. Disappears! It ceases to exist without me. No, you clearly don’t know who you’re talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not the one who ordered anchovies, pizza boy. I am the meat order! A guy opens his door and accepts the wrong pizza and you think that of me? No. I am the one who gets a free pepperoni!” A little silly here and there is the grease that keeps the meat grinder working so Yandere-chan can reduce her rivals to a red paste. Having lighter moments and silly options makes for a better play experience so long as those things are a dash here and there or an option the player can take or leave.
I like the way you think.
Who is it you think you see? Is from FNAF 4 trailer
You can do it yandere dev 🙂
I like the mood dissonance and contrast. I like the way it goes really cheerful and light to really dark and serious. I like the way you can do horrific, monstrous things in a cheerful, pleasant backdrop. It’s about keeping a balance and not letting it get too silly I think, otherwise it might start to feel too much like every other horror game; the balance keeps it different.
I like the way you think Yanderedev make it like FNAF sorry it’s a different subject but really the game is almost like Five Nights At Freddy’s it has secrets Easter eggs and a story!make it like FNAF so after the story is complete at least we can experience it again
I think a way to keep the silly side while keeping the morbid side could be keeping it where you can use the OP easter eggs (like ebola mode), but if you use them it would be in a “free play” type mode, where you couldn’t complete anything on that challenges page. I think it’d be sad to see them all disappear after the time and effort you spent putting the cute little easter eggs in. 🙂
A “Freeplay” mode is an amazing idea!! Hope YandereDev does this 🙂
So you want to make this game serious, free of jokes so that it’ll be taken seriously? Yeah, that worked out really well for Madoka Magica, Mirai Nikki, School Days, The Dark Knight… ;P
By all means rebrand the game and make it as serious, dark, and gritty as you want, but don’t delude yourself into thinking that you can’t, shouldn’t, or won’t continue making silly gag content about it. Even if you stopped, you know we fans would just take up the reins and do it for you 😉
Honestly, I never use the easter eggs that much because I find it more fun to kill the correct way and not with something silly like Yandere-punch. It’s time for the game to mature and show it’s true roots and potential as a horror game. However, humor does make a game more entertaining. You should implement some humor cleverly within the actual gameplay rather than easter eggs that have nothing to do with the game. This game has so much potential, I can’t wait to see what you’ll do with it. Best of luck Yanderedev!
I’m really waiting for it to become serious. You’ve already desensitised us to… a bunch of things.
yeah okay but where any info on the older world part on one of your polls and also for the love of jesus fix the characters boobs! please! they look like missile tits…i love the game but that just really bothers me….
sorry OPEN world poll
I would also like to point out, Yandere Dev, that I’m relieved to know that you take breaks! I was concerned that you were overworking yourself and that you would eventually burn out as a result.
If you plan to have it be extremely serious, you’ll want to change the names of a few of the students. Namely the ones whose names are puns such as “Musme Ronshaku”, “Kuu Dere”, and the Basu sisters. I love the names, but the game to have full seriousness, that would have to be changed. If you decide to retain some if not most of the humorous charm in the more serious builds, then you can get away with some of the pun names.
The game will have some jokes, so I think the names are fine.
I agree with you, Dallas.
Oka Ruto is a pun too. It means occult in Japanese. Okaruto.
I don’t get the Musume one, I don’t speak english :l
Musume is Japanese for daughter, and Ronshaku is “loan shark” in a way that can be put into the Japanese alphabet. Her name is literally “daughter loanshark”
Oh, well, thanks for explaining c:
The game should have SOME puns. I
I don’t get the pun for museums ronshaku…
no no dont change the names keep names same
Like what if the name of the cooking club president will be Maffin ? Or Midori Gurin who means Green Green. Joke names are cool and I love them.
The Great Rebranding is where I think the name should be changed.
I think its okay to keep the silly stuff BUT i think it should be actual easter eggs that you have to find for yourself instead of just some cute easter egg menu, you get me? I LOVE yandere simulator and all that its about and its so fascinating and fun to me. i cant wait till theres an actual rival and everything and i think even though its gonna be a dark and grim game int he future that there MUST be a balance and the easter eggs are turned into what theyre supposed to be: unlockable easter eggs. Not just a menu of them.
Do you mean that we have to unlock them?
It should have more dark aspects but im cool to have some silly features. The game is already dark but it doesnt show. I like it because it matches yandere-chan who also hides her identity as serial killer
I feel like it should be, Lovesick: A Yandere Simulator.
Hey YandereDev, if copyright matters to you for that video, report this, since I shouldn’t report it as mine, since it isn’t. But, here the link is: https://youtube.com/watch?v=2HKFBIfqt-0
Don’t worry. I reported the video. It’s taken down already.
Found another one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pf7rGzlbEY
57 more minutes until hopefully new build
ugh..i have to wait ..at me is August 7th..
Honestly, I think the game can be serious as it is. The main thing preventing it being taken seriously is how laughably easy it is right now. Once the sanity based animations are implemented, that’ll do so much to increase the difficulty.
You see, YandereDev, I completely agree with this idea. Visuals are a key factor when presenting the feeling of a game. If your product is going to have a happy or peaceful atmosphere, it is obviously going to have warm, saturated colors such as Yellow, Light Blue, Red… or Pink. If your product is going to be like your description, I would suggest less saturated colors, even for the characters. I know some of them have a hair color that’s quite vivid and that’s not not very good from my perspective, at least if you want to present that depressing ambience from the beginning. Even in the game there are some elements that feel out of place because of this. I can’t really take a murder seriously because if I stab somebody in the neck everything is still going to be colorful. I highly suggest you to take a look at an anime called Denpa Teki na Kanojo for this matter.
Have you seen what happens at low school atmosphere? Things get pretty grey if you don’t clean up your messes.
At low school atmosphere, the game turns black and white and students stand shaking and looking around warily. This update was added last year or maybe a couple months ago idk
Yeah but what if this “low atmosphere” isn’t present? Everything is still colorful, right? Even in I kill somebody everything is still colorful. As far as I know, the atmosphere of the game doesn’t change from one moment to another. It takes days to reach the state you mentioned.
That is true.
This game is perfectly balanced the way it is. Some of the fan base is here for the jokes and the easter eggs. You’d lose an extreme amount of the fan base if you removed all of the funniest features.
I agree with you! Some people might get scared if it gets too serious as well.
I feel as if when yandere dev thinks, will this scare them even more? good *shades* But. it would make sense do to experiencing what a yandere experiences.
Yandere Simulator was never intended to be a silly game. People need to understand that this game has always been about a psychopath, despite the happy-go-lucky looks it was always intended to be a dark, violent game, and that’s not something that’s going to change.
I came to yandere simulator in the first place for the dark and scary stuff, I love horror games, and this is why I came, I’m not saying that if it is a little silly, that I will just leave the game and stop playing it, I love the game because of the potential, I would like more horror elements added to the game as time goes on, but, as I see in the votes, most people like that little bit of silly in the game, and I understand that a lot of people came here for the reason that the game is kind of silly, but I think Yandere Dev should make it like he wanted the game to be in the first place, a psychopathic game where you are trying to “get rid” of the people in your way, this is what being a yandere is all about, being a psychotic maniac with killing problems, and I like that horror type gameplay, if Yandere Dev wanted it to be less silly and more psychotic, so be it, I love this kind of stuff!~
I agree that eventually it will come time that this game gets the rebranding it needs and I don’t think the Easter eggs or silliness is needed. If someone is trying to create a brutal and serious game then keeping in some silly memes isn’t something that will go well with that. At its final product, I think this game would be best with as little silliness as possible as it isn’t meant to be silly. People may argue that ‘oh well if it’s too dark then it won’t be fun’ but to be honest when I hear that then I think what this game is meant to be might not be for them. Silent Hill for example is a great game series with a dark tone (well some of them are great games anyway). Did you need silliness to have a fun time? I would hope not. Of course they had some fun goof stuff here and there but it was scarce. Sure the game could have some Easter eggs like perhaps a plush or poster related to some of the things in the Debug Build or Yandere Sim game related memes lying around the game and maybe even a bigger Easter egg but nothing more. As Yandere Dev spends most of his own time creating this game for us, he may have to make a game we want to play but he shouldn’t have to compromise his vision for the game so much to keep the people that are attached to the memes satisfied and take away the dreary atmosphere he wants. That is just my opinion though. I can’t wait to see the full game in all of its glory. Keep up the good work, Yandere Dev.
The game isn’t scary at all right now, just gruesome. I agree that adding more of a scary atmosphere will help. The Easter eggs seem like a huge chunk of the game, but that could just be from all the publicity on you tube. If it were less campy you could really get into the character and her personality.
I think more of the “meme game” status has do with
1. How it’s presented. Which is no where near your fault and actually makes perfect sence for this kind of game and honestly (I’m not sure if this exsists but I’ve seen it plenty of times on youtuber’s videos) The game should appear to be that kind of normal anime happy style to lure in players on a false sence of security until you bascially slap them in the face with how they will be convicting murder and they have to get away with it in sort of simular ways to how you do in real life. Clearly not excatly being a 1 to 1 but it’s probably for the better.
2. What is more interesting to watch. I mean all the silly easter eggs are silly and make people laugh. Therefore people will share it to make other people laugh. Most people (most) do not just want you just watch straight up murder for hours on end. And the people who would show just the many different ways you can murder people in this game will only use it as a way to try and cencor violence in video games. Especially when it doesn’t quite have the fantasy aspect of it. People complain about “Violence” in pokemon, (PETA is a good example) but those are fictional creatures based off of other fictional creatures that just seem so unrealic, nobody really listens to them. But this game is a minor going to class with a knife and killing her schoolmates and even sometimes, school staff.
I enjoy this game so this is honestly as unbiased as humans can be, and I’m not just “shitting” on you cause “Oh violence in anything is bad and blah blah blah, less gun control”. I really, and honestly feel like you almost forgot what you were making and the meme game is probably really helping out with your whole thing not being headline news about how all of this project should be shut down. Especially since it’s free to download and you don’t even have like your own self rating just to quiet people or an “Age confirmation” meaning that even a 7 year old can just download it and play it.
Come on Yanderedev i know that you will take the best decision, cheer up! But……… We are anxious for that you complete the game…. It’s so exciting!!! >w< GOOD LUCK!! ;D
Where’s the new update?
He said it may come out tomorrow, if not a few days later. Patience.
I almost felt like crying when I discovered 70 people voted that he should make it a full on joke game (。-_-。)
I almost did too.
I think that the only problem is that you can access the eg menu whenever. Maybe the easter eggs should be collectablez, that would unlock the eg , maybe in a easter egg mode??YanSim is quite a clever and complex game already, but, the only way to fight teachers now is to blast’em to the speed of light.
In the final game, the easter eggs will be removed. Yandev considered making them unlockable/collectable via cheat codes
Mmm, idk i watched every video that he has posted, and the only things that he said he would remove are the debug builds and the cinematic mode, idk if he said that about egs
He did in the New FAQ/Wiki
I think a the idea of a darker game, with just a little bit of silliness sprinkled in, would be perfect.
NOO do not re brand it i love the name yandere simulator it just would not be the same 😦
He will probably rename t towards the end of the game. He says that games with the title simulator are mostly joke games. But hey he’s planning to keep Yandere sim in the title too. For example: lovesick: a yandere simulator.
My two cents on this is… Yandere Simulator isn’t a game yet. I like the vision Yandere Dev has, but the product isn’t there yet. It’s known more for the Easter eggs than the main content because the game isn’t there yet. Sure you can ‘lose’, but you really don’t lose anything. No progress, no achievements, no items, not senpai, just time out of your day. Since it’s incomplete the Easter eggs fill the holes and make the game semi-playable, but the player has to make their own goals making the current state rely on emergent gameplay to satify the player. Once the game is complete it may have a vastly different feel to it, not needing the Easter eggs to flesh it out and may not be missed at all.
No clue why it placed it as a reply to this. Odd…
Where art thou update
He won’t add it right away! Plus if he doesn’t add it today he will add it sometime later.
1) the game I think is fine I know you said this doesn’t accurately portray the game but if it did i wouldn’t be sad. 2) all games need some humor or fun stuff if it’d too dark the game can get boring the Easter eggs are extra fun 3) I don’t see the game as a joke game it’s very dark with joke sprinkles 4) if you try hard enough any game can be a joke game
wheres the update baka lol
Anyone else refreshing the page alot? XD i know he wont upload it instantly im just really excited
What if after Ayano kills a student and a teacher is notified. what if Dark somewhat dramatic music starts playing until the police arrive as the music is basically saying, you better dispose of your weapon and dirty uniform and clean up so you wont be arrested.
But Alex But Alex ! … Why is your game so gimmicky?
I personally love the easter eggs especially Yandere Punch!! and being a murderous ice fairy because well they cant arrest ya because ya got 0 blood on ya. I love the game’s current balance. Make it darker if ya like Yandere Dev, but don’t deprive us, me especially of hilarious Easter Eggs. A murder game can have light humor, I mean look at Mortal Kombat 10’s pre-fight chats. Funny stuff! Keep the balance!
(if you want the short version of this long-ass paragraph, skip to the end)
I always loved – and still love – the idea of the dark horror game you’re imagining and creating – Hell it’s pretty hard to find games like that now-a-days. It was even one of the main reasons why it drew me to you.
But at the same time, I love the silliness and references spilled into the mix of it all. Seeing references like “Attack On Titan” and “Undertale” always brought a smile to my face. So, how do we solve this dilemma? There’s actually a pretty simple answer to this question.
By finding the perfect balance.
Midori: “InsanityVirus! InsanityVirus! That’s probably one of the reasons why Yandere Dev is hosting the poll though. He’s asking what’s the perfect balance.”
Me: Heh, here’s the thing. You never let me explain.”
Midori: ???
I would suggest taking a more “serious approach” to the game. A lot of the silliness in the game HAS made it into a meme/joke game. But you can’t beat yourself up for that. Without some fun, you’d go completely mad. With all the useless spam in your inbox, trying to work around people’s schedules and lives, the game ITSELF, it must all be pretty stressful. I actually wonder/don’t know how you handle it all. (Some people say that you just toughen through it, but it’s never that simple. Is it?)
So, while taking a bit more of a “serious approach” to the game, you can still have a bit of fun and silliness sprinkled into the game like the references and whatnot. Just not as much. Smaller doses to say the least.
1.) So YOU won’t go off your rocker and be put in the nuthouse for murder and insanity and whatnot xD
2.) So WE can still have a good laugh now and than
3.) So the game ITSELF won’t be considered a joke/meme game, but can still have a good chuckle here and there
So – short version of all of this xD Take a more serious approach to the game, but still have a bit of silliness and fun sprinkled in here and there. Just the right amount so it won’t be considered a joke/meme game, but can still have a few easter eggs and smiles hidden in here and there.
Thanks for giving the read =^,-,^=
I agree with re-branding in the future, but for the time being I don’t think the easter eggs/silliness is too much that it hurts the game. The game is very obviously not finished, without the Easter Eggs it would be a very boring game that wouldn’t have the popularity it has right now.
I think most fans that follow this blog and the official channel understand what kind of game Yandere Simulator is intended to be and what it will become once it near completion. Yes, some people might be disappointed in the future once the Easter Eggs are removed, some people might even be disgusted by the kind of game it actually is, but by then the game should be able to stand on its own without having to resort to gimmicks like the Easter Eggs.
Yandere Dev, I’m just want to say something about the way people get ready to go to class.
Morning
Students: Some students should wear a watch and when its about 8 am they should check the time.
Teachers: Teachers should keep an eye on the time every 20 minutes (Game Time) and Kyoshi Taiso should also wear a watch with an alarm on it to alert her when its time to get going to the staff room.
I’m so sorry that I didn’t listen to your orders to not send you suggestions but I think this would be a cool little addition to the students and teachers movement.
Sincerely, Neon Scorpion
