July Progress Report

I’ve got a new build to share with you! Click here to download it!

Curious what’s new in this build? This video will help you out:

Sending a girl into depression over the death of her sister…a 37-second long murder-suicide animation…and even dead kittens! Wow, this might be the darkest video I’ve ever made!

Here’s a very long list of all the changes in this build:

Bug Fixes

  • Attempted to fix bug that would cause students to halt their daily routine after having a conversation with Yandere-chan, if the student was investigating a sound before Yandere-chan began speaking to them.
  • Fixed bug that would cause students’ textures to turn white when they changed their shoes, if the player had attended class extremely early in the morning (before all students had finished spawning).
  • Fixed bug that would cause students to move around while in the middle of a conversation with Yandere-chan, if the student was investigating a sound before Yandere-chan began speaking to them.
  • Fixed bug that would cause giggling nearby a student to interfere with that student’s “change shoes” animation, if the student heard the giggle before they entered school.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Kokona’s “talking on phone” event to behave improperly if the player took out their phone and snapped a picture of Kokona during the event.
  • Fixed bug that would cause students to stand in front of their locker indefinitely if they were interrupted on their way to their locker before entering the school.
  • Fixed bug that was causing the game to drop 10 FPS every time the player moved the protagonist or the camera.
  • Fixed bug that caused students to fail to investigate giggles before walking through the school entrance.
  • Fixed bug that would cause teachers’ pets to perform a running animation even when they were not moving.
  • Fixed bug that would make the laptop girl’s speech audible even outside of the Student Council room.
  • Fixed bug that would allow the player to gossip with a specific student more than once per day.
  • Fixed the two fire extinguisher signs in the school that were pointing in the wrong direction.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the prompt bar to appear on screenshots taken with the cell phone.
  • Attempted to fix the bug that would cause students’ eyes to point in opposite directions.
  • (Hopefully,) FINALLY FIXED THAT STUPID BUG THAT WOULD MAKE TEACHERS FLOAT ABOVE CORPSES!

Additions / Changes / Improvements

  • If you kill one Basu sister but let the other live, the surviving sister will perform a mourning animation on the school rooftop instead of performing the normal “social butterfly” animation set.
  • If two NPCs have a special relationship (lovers, family members) and you kill one of those NPCs in front of the other, the surviving NPC will attack you like a Heroic student would.
  • Mind-broken slaves will now spawn to the right of the school gate, behind some bushes, to provide an explanation as to why the gym teacher and other students don’t notice them.
  • Optimized numerous scripts in an attempt to improve the framerate. (Does anyone feel like doing a comparison with the last build?)
  • Now, whenever the player walks by a room, the name of the room will display in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  • Students now have lockers at different heights, instead of all having their lockers at the exact same height.
  • Gave the player the ability to use a shovel to dig a hole in any of the 9 plots in the Gardening Club.
  • Oka Ruto will no longer go to the rooftop to spy on the Basu sisters if the Basu sisters are dead.
  • Replaced the old Senpai Shrine model with a new one, and added more items to the Senpai Shrine.
  • Gave the player the ability to fill up a hole that has been dug in the Gardening Club.
  • Replaced the voiced lines in Saki and Kokona’s Monday rooftop conversation.
  • Implemented a much better “peek around corner” animation for Oka Ruto.
  • Gave the player the ability to bury a corpse in the Gardening Club.
  • Implemented a better walk animation for mind-broken slaves.
  • Added 1 new accessory and 1 new hairstyle for Yandere-chan.
  • Implemented 9 garden plots inside of the Gardening Club.
  • Implemented a new murder-suicide animation.
  • Updated the nurse’s character model.
  • Improved Ebola-chan’s face texture.

What’s next?

There are several things I’m looking forward to:

  1. Adding the Matchmaking elimination method.
  2. Implement sanity-based killing animations, now that I have all the animations I need.
  3. Allow the player to fight back against teachers, and kill them.
  4. Work on the “Rival Introduction” video so I can introduce all of rival girls who will be trying to steal Senpai’s heart,
  5. Take a day off to create a short, humorous video just for fun.

Realistically, I’ll probably create the short video first, then release a “combat” update that revolves around sanity-based killing animations and fighting back against teachers. The next thing I’ll do after that will be the rival introduction video, and then I’ll get to work on the Matchmaking elimination method.

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. Wow some of the ideas that I have been wondering for a long time in the game is implemented like if you kill sakyu basu’s sister in front of her,she will fight you! I never knew its already planned in the game.

I’M DYING TO SEE THE RIVALS!!!!

  2. I love this new build! Thanks Yandere Dev! You are the greatest game developer I have ever been able to play a game in development still! This game is more interesting than any other game and that its a game based around Japanese culture I LOVE IT EVEN MORE! Thanks for making such an interesting game!

      • It would probably have to be a stray because most schools don’t allow animals on school property. At my school the only animals allowed are service dogs and Puppy’s in Training to be service dogs.

      • People from my school always bring their pet rabbits haha, I’ve never seen someone bring their dog or cat sadly ;~; (aside from the service dogs!)

  3. The murder-suicide animation is super freaky, I love it! I agree with Kawaii Neko, though – the blood splattering two meters away from the neck ruins the creepy atmosphere a little, since it seems a bit unrealistic (not that I would know how it really looks like, but that is what seems logical to me). But otherwise, it’s awesome!

  4. Although I love the new changes and especially the mind slave one, I think the blood squirting out of the neck was a bit over the top and kinda kills it.

  5. I’m really not down for killing kittens, or animals of any kind tbh.
I know it’s a game, I know Yan-chan is that kind of person. But that’s a step too far I think. At least for me. So I’ll avoid that method.

On another note, the new murder/suicide animation is fantastic

    • I’m with you there. There are other ways of hiding a corpse in the garden. Maybe by growing a carnivorous plant that would eat the corpse — then it could be tied to a gardening club activity.

      • U playing a freaking game which has a mental character killing, torturing high school students. HOW THE HELL IS KILLING A KITTEN GOING TO FAR PLEASE? Honestly you need rethink of playing this game.

  6. yandere dev.. if you are working on the sanity-based killing and fighting back against teachers, would we be able to kill the delinquents base on the combat update you are working on?

  7. All the new mind slave animations are incredible! You’ve helped me find my motivation to kidnap and torture teenage girls in my basement again! Thank you, YanDev!

  8. It would be awesome if the character (NPC) have different body types. So some are tall/short/normal, some are chubby/skinny/normal.
Yes, I know that the development of the game isn’t finished already. It’s just an idea… I’m really sorry if this comment wastes your time…Sorry Dev.♥(You’re doing great)♥

  9. Really nice update. I absolutely love the routine changes with the NPCs, to see the things around you changing as a result of your actions is very enjoyable (and a nice addition to already existing school atmosphere).

New slave murdering animation was a lot of fun to watch, but there are a couple of problems with it in it’s current state. As stated it the previous comments, blood fountain looks a bit out of place, so probably some tweaking will be needed in the future. I also think it would be nice to add different animations for student’s reactions, since everyone standing in similar pose and just watching the whole process is somewhat strange (though I understand, WIP and stuff). What really caught my attention though is the teacher standing perfectly still while execution was taking place. Shouldn’t she (or maybe even some heroic student) try to stop the slave before she is able to kill herself? Cause in theory rescued slave could remember something about Yandere-chan, which would result in a game over. I suppose that in future you’ll have to consider when and where you start the whole thing, or it will backfire badly.

And well, kittens. Strangely it’s ok with me to kill any person in a game in any brutal way, but thinking about killing kittens still feels wrong. Personally I can overcome myself since, well, it’s just a game, but for some people it can be too much. I don’t suggest abandoning that idea, but probably there can be alternatives for those who still want to bury the corpses. Some chemical or even spice probably can have a stronger smell then a fresh corpse (which can probably even scare the dog away), so Yandere-chan can learn about it in a class, then steal it from science/cooking club (sorry if don’t remember their names correctly) and pour over the corpse.

Overall, I think updates like this are as interesting as a new elimination methods and I especially love additions of new animations. Looking forward to the next update.

  10. Love the murder/suicide animation, it’s so brutal, and the mourning animation is heart breaking. Not sure I could ever bring myself to kill a small animal if that does get implemented though.

  11. Zero Yandere Dilemma. The new Murder-Suicide animation, while very well-done and fitting, looks like something straight out of Zero Time Dilemma, the final part of Zero Escape.

  12. I like the new murder-suicide animation (although the blood squirting was a little overboard, unless it was supposed to look like those animes instead of real life). And the relationship/crush is more relevant now, as it adds a “deseperation” bit on the NPCs.

Who cares if we’ve to kill a kitten to hide the buried body? Anything, we still have the incinerators and a few other methods to hide/eliminate the body, we don’t -really- need to rely too much on the Bury method, right?
I hope we can kill a kitten only once, or the cops might find out the trick if we abuse too much of that method (the police isn’t that stupid, or it is?).

  13. I absolutely agree that schedules and AI routes should change depending on who’s alive or what mental state they’re in, but I also say there ought to be levels of connectivity for students.

Remember that schools, especially Japanese ones at that, don’t have students that all have relationships with one another. Some are light friends, some are acquaintances, some just know of people by name, and some people just don’t have many contacts at all and just sort of go to school to learn. This is especially true in Japanese schools where friendships are (usually) predictable based on demographics and personalities.

And now with a few side notes I’d just sort of like to mention…

Holy cow do those students stand and stare at that murder suicide scene. Unblinking, they just watch it unfold in stead of running around and calling faculty members or fighting back like they would if you had done it. I mean, I understand fully that the demonstration presented was a proof of concept and a display of artistic vision (god that blood fountain was funny), but still. Perhaps there could be some risk reward system on how strong the student is? It would be harder to capture and mind break a strong willed, able bodied student but because they have such strength their assassination would have less chance of being taken down before the murder even started? Remember that they aren’t concealing their weapon of choice, so if they’re seen dashing toward a student brandishing a knife, it would be safe for people to assume that they’re dangerous.

As for the whole kitten killing thing… I get the feeling you were just pulling our leg! You’d get similar results if you found some discarded foodstuffs (like hamburgers or hotdogs) and buried that as opposed to killing innocent animals. That just sounds sort of strange. She’s supposed to be homicidal for the sake of obsession, after all!

  14. the new murder-suicide animator is brutal, I LOVE it! the multiple stabbing is really nice, though the blood fountain from the mindslave’s throat is in my opinion a little too much.
though all in all i like this animation much better than the previous one ^^
keep up the good work yanderedev!

  15. The general tone of the new Murder-Suicide Animation is pretty gruesome, and therefore spot-on. The blodd fountain, although common Anime-Trope, is a little overboord, but can certainly be tuned.

Cruelty against animals is of course a red flag for a lot of people (it is known that even hardend Mafia killers, often could not hurt animals), much more that cruelty against other Humans, but Yan-Chan is portraied as complete emotionless, so killing an animal wo achive a goal is fitting. The good thing is: YanSim is a game about choice, I highly doubt that it wil be at any point nececary to harm an anyima. It will probably be even posible to not harm anyone.
So to everyone who doesn not want to hurt a kitten in a game: Dont do it.
Also dont watch the Movie 1900, where a Kitten is killed by someone to demostrate what should be done to communists.

  16. The hype is getting to a point where failure is becoming inconceivable. I know this will be awesome, but I dread to think this could fail just like other people said Mighty No.9 was (though I personally find no problem with it) and the potential consequences.

I will support this game and I believe YandereDev will deliver a game for the ages. May my hope of which I rarely ever give let alone acknowledge be justified lest it leave my heart bleeding.

  17. I kind of like the new if someone loves someone else and sees them die they will react and attack thing. But I think some npc should react in different ways depending on their personality. Some npcs should probably have a similar animation as the ‘heart broken’ one where senpai tells her to stay away from her and she collapses on the ground. I just think not all people react the same way. But I do like the idea of them suddenly going crazy and trying to fight them because of it. And I think that some npcs should try kill yandere-chan once she has killed their loved one or family member.

  18. Honestly I understand the whole not wanting to kill a kitten thing but that’s the great part of this game…It’s an OPTION. If you don’t like the idea just grind her up into mulch or burn her in the incinerator or even dispose of the evidence linking you to the crime and leave the body in place where it’ll be found; striking terror into the populace and gaining infamy without consequence. There’s a whole world of options when it comes to corpse disposal 😀

  19. While I think having to kill a small animal is a good way to make this corpse disposal method more challenging for players, I think there is another way to make it more challenging while still fitting with the game’s scope. Although right now all they have is Place Holder Chan, eventually there will be a gardening club with members, along with the hedge maze where students will gossip with one another. I think if routines of these students would potentially interfere with your burying of the corpse. Another option as well could be that for every week during the ten week period, the gardening club would plant flowers or vegetables onto one of the plots, taking away one burial site option for the player for every one week of the game. Just some thoughts

  20. I know you probably will not read but whatever. I think but instead of a random kitten it should be her kitten her cat gave birth to not to long ago. To show just how evil she is that she can be in pursuit of senpai.

  21. As much as I’m looking forward to new features to the game. The murder-suicide death is awesome.
Animal violence is not OK. This will get you into more trouble then the pantie shots incident. This is a really big red flag for a lot of people, and is sadly a troupe in media to get the audience to HATE A CHARACTER!!! Gamers are OK with killing a person as the way the game portrays them as someone who could defend themselves, or their death could save others or stop an event (in Yandere’s case). But an animal hasn’t done anything wrong and can not defend themselves. If you did do this, PETA would be on your back and the game would get more banned from more websites. Please find another way to distract the dogs; like hiding a bloody weapon at the other end of the school or something.

    • That’s also a very good point. Not only will one thing cause people to not buy the game, it’ll also potentially get you into a lot of trouble with the press. You’re already having a hard time with Twitch because they put you on the ban list with games like Hatred, but even Hatred purposely excluded animal violence. Your career suicide crusade begins here.

    • You have to understand that Yandere-Chan is not a good person. So it would make sense if the cat idea was involved in this new build. And theres no way a dog would sniff out a murder weapon vs a body.

      • I understand that Yandere is not a good person and yes, it would trick the police. But I’m thinking about this from a media/gaming point of view. And it’s not pretty. Animal violence footage gets taken down, probably a press field-day, the game being banned from many websites. People are more sensitive to animals in danger then people. If he’s not careful, this could lead to a bigger blow-up then the inventory incident. That’s all I’m saying.

  22. No! YanDev, NO! Do not do that kitten thing. Please, take it out – or add an alternative. Killing humans? I have absolutely no problem with doing that in a game. But animals? No. I do not tolerate that, at all. Not in real life, neither in videogames. I know this makes me come across as a naggypants, but No. You are above this Yandere Dev! You could think up other ways!

Heck, make Yandere-chan grab some overly foul, thrown-away potatoes from the cooking club’s kitchen or from the trash can and put those everywhere, to distract the dogs. Foul potatoes basically smell like human decomp.

As for the new murder-suicide animation, Awww, I hope Yandere-chan can have that animation, too.

    • No the kitten idea is perfect. If you cant deal with that you shouldn’t play this game. I’m not just saying it because i dont like cats, if it was a puppy i would still love the idea.

  23. Yandere Dev:

    I could give the emotional/psychological explanation for why the kitten killing is bad game design, but instead I’ll just lay down this simple fact;

This mechanic is going to cause a lot of people to not buy your game. You can argue all day long about why this is good or bad, but the bottom line is that this will do nothing but push people away from your product.

  24. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YandereDev this is perfect, it’s way better than the last animations. It looks like a real murder suicide but the only thing that i think would be great is if someone tries to help Kokona but the mind slave swings her fine at the student because i dont really like the audience and how they just stand there. I cant wait to see what’s next!!! And the kitten thing is a perfect idea DO NOT take it out who ever cant deal with it shouldn’t play this game. they shouldn’t forget Yandere-Chan’s true nature. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK

    • YandereDev if you take out this kitten idea im going to be pissed. Everyone who is against the idea probably isn’t cut out for this game. If you change the idea how else are you going to distract the dog from finding a corpse. You can change the kitten idea, but can it at least still be some kind of animal to get the dog off track?
