The next build is still on track for June 1st. The cut-scene that caused the delay is now 100% finished; all that remains is testing for bugs, fixing whatever bugs I find, adding polish, and seeing how many additional features I can add between now and June 1st.
I promised that I would post previews of cool upcoming content for every day that the build continued to be delayed, so here’s another preview:
I’ve always wanted Yandere Simulator to have an original school uniform, instead of using the cliche “Sailor” school uniform, I want the game to have a school uniform that makes you say “Oh! I recognize that! That’s the uniform from Yandere Simulator!” The above image is a school uniform that I designed by combining aspects of some of my favorite anime school uniforms. This roughly what I want Yandere Simulator’s “official” school uniform to be. (I might still want to make a few tweaks here and there.)
Of course, if I’m a horrible uniform designer and the majority of people think that my design looks ugly, then I would be a fool to use that design. As with most things, I think it would be a good idea to present multiple options to the fanbase and then let the fans vote on Yandere Simulator’s official uniform.
Let’s try a quick test poll right now! What do you think of the uniform featured above?
No matter what the school’s “official” uniform is, a lot of people associate the stereotypical “Sailor” school uniform with Yandere Simulator, and won’t want to use anything else. So, of course, the traditional “Sailor” uniform will be an option in the final game.
By the way, there is something worth mentioning. Yandere-chan’s current character model is a store-bought asset, and this model lacks many of the features that I would want to see in a video game character model (namely, the capacity for an expressive face) and I think that her body proportions are a bit strange, so I plan to eventually replace Yandere Simulator’s current character models with custom-made character models that have way more versatility.
Updating the game’s character models would require at least a month of “downtime” during which no apparent progress is being made on the game. The reason it would require so much time to update the game’s character model is because there are dozens of scripts that are designed to directly access specific parts of the current character model, and ripping out the game’s current character model would break all of those scripts. Also, there’s no guarantee that all of the game’s current animations would be compatible with the “final” character model, which means there is the possibility that the “final” character model can’t even be implemented unless I have a full set of (over 100) animations made specifically for the new character model.
I don’t think that this is the correct time to have a month of “downtime” where no apparent progress is being made on the game. So, the “Aoi” character model will remain in use until after the game’s crowdfunding campaign, which will most likely take place in late 2016 or early 2017.
Because Yandere-chan’s current appearance is very closely associated with Yandere Simulator, I believe that the protagonist’s final character model should be similar in nature to the current character model. The protagonist’s final character model should have a hairstyle that is very similar to the hairstyle she currently uses. It might look like this, for example:
Similar enough to be an original asset, but close enough to the original that you still recognize the character.

I like the uniform a lot!! Although the whole vest boob thing is kinda ehh, maybe it could just be a normal vest? Besides poor kokona would have a hard time dealing with that uniform haha
And also the blue vest and blue skirt is a little plain, which is understandable but if I were in charge if make it navy blue and maybe a different color/pattern on the bottom??? Everything looks so good aah
I feel like the uniform is just way too close to the School Days uniform. It looks nice, but I’ll always just relate the weird jumper thing to the SD uniform. Personally, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to relate it to YanSim. I’m sure people who haven’t been exposed to SD won’t mind it as much, but given the nature of the game…
As for changing the models.. I feel like it’s a risky move. One thing I do associate a lot with YanSim is the faces of the current models. It’s completely understandable that he wants to change them to original models but.. speaking as a fan, I’d much rather he keep them. However, I don’t think the change would turn me off from the game either.
i think if he changed the models, he’d make them really similar, but give them ability to have facial expression, just like the hair is super similar, the faces would look almost the same too, just more expressive
I think the design is great just maybe some more color other than the light blue? maybe light blue skirt and black jumper top thingy? i don’t know but just the colors bro’.
I think the headmaster/mistress of akademi high wanted to see some high school tattas when he designed this.

my favorite is the red-black-blue, and i did the lower skirt one because so many people in the comments have hang-ups about the boob thing. personally, i think it’s fine with the boob thing, but i thought eh, why not?

Wow. I didn’t care for the design of the outfit, but that 3td color pallette with the brown skirt makes it look really good.
That brown pallette is fantastic ^ u ^ The reason why people bring up the boob thing is because if you’ve had boobs you know that the school uniform design would be uncomfortable as hell to wear even if it’s pretty. The straps would be better if they went right over your chest instead of around.
Im p busty and ive worn something like that and something that goes over them, that way is A TON more comfortable actually ^^ imo. and i love the grey black red personally

I think brown one looks best; that would help to distinguish it as ‘yandere simulator’, and it looks really nice. The black one on the end is too, but I’d just associate it with school days too much. Also with the brown one, it’ll still be easy for students to accessorize

what does the back of this uniform look like? i think it should cross in the back in the shape of an X. this would keep the straps from falling off your shoulders, and give the player a nice X to look at on the back, instead of I I during gameplay.

I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan of the uniform design at first (mostly with the under-the-boob thing going on) but I have to admit it’s grown on me a little the more I’ve looked at it. I think what throws most people off is the chest area, and if anything is going to change, I suggest starting there; Perhaps change it from shoulder straps to a more corset-like deal (since the way the straps come up under her boobs and over her shoulders is what’s making me kinda go ‘whoa hold up’). Even so, it’s not really that bad once you have a little longer to look at it more.
Regardless, I do agree with the other commenters and do think it should be in a darker color palette, especially if Yandere-chan is going to keep her black stockings.. I’m personally thinking a cream and brown like Hudson’s suggestion would be best; it gives a very school-like vibe to me without having to be mostly black (and possibly a bit too on-the-nose that Yandere-chan’s kinda evil), and it’d also go well with the other schoolgirls’ white stockings.
For some reason I can’t comment under the polls but I still wanted to share my opinion regarding the school uniform. I feel like it looks pretty similar to the school uniform in NGE just with a lot of underboob, which I feel like is not appropriate for a school. I’m also not a fan of those colors, maybe it’s just me but I think those are pretty not pretty. I think something that also needs to be considered is that in anime there is always a school uniform for winter and one for summer which always look similar just with another feature added, such as a pullover or long sleeves. In this case, I guess you would just wear a short sleeved shirt under that dress but in my opinion it would look weird because of those underboob straps.
I have no issue with the faces being slightly changed as long as they are improving. Improvement is always good right?

i think if you made the darker blue part more of a vest than the weird boob thing, then it would look MUCH better. not to mention akademi high really cares about their image, so why would they want their students wearing a uniform that made their breasts look WAYY too prominent. and i guess you could make the colours more appealing, like a white button up and a red or black vest.

And yay for new models! Not that I don’t like the current ones, but custom models will mean YandereDev can customise his characters more 🙂

As with a lot of people here, I think the uniform is fine overall but the whole boob thing comes off as pretty creepy. I think it undermines the seriousness of the game to have them featured so prominently in the schoolgirl uniform, giving the game a “pervy weeaboo fan service” feel which is not at all what you’re going for. It’s creepy that Akademi High School’s uniform is so sexualizing to underage teenage girls, especially since it claims to care so much about about the school’s reputation.

The fact that YanDev is a guy shouldn’t mean the game automatically has to be perverted- he said the school was supposed to be just like a normal Japanese high school. He also said he wanted people to take his game seriously, and didn’t want it portrayed as a joke, and thus far has shown he doesn’t have the competence level of doing so and seems to have no INTEREST in doing so. I like the uniform pattern, but the colors feel off, try something darker, like brown or dark blue. To give her more balance contrast wise.

Imma gonna be honest, the new uniform is not doing it for me.
I hate the chest part. I can’t take anything seriously if in front of my face there’s a pair of screaming boobs. In hentai/ecchi? It fits. In Yandere Sim? Not for me at least. I’m trying to be in this girl’s sadistic mind and all I can look at are her boobs. No, just no.
My problem is the straps I think it looks a little weird if you can fix that I would be fine with it.

I think I’d like this a little better if it was a pinafore rather than separates, with straps over the chest rather than around. Maybe a darker color, too? But just changing the chest area and colors would be fine.

Hmm…. That’s tough for me to say. On one hand, I like the models of the characters and am used to seeing that…but on the other hand I worry if he uses them in an offical game if there will be copyright infringement involved. Unless it’s a public domain kind of asset then that should be okay…I guess.
Another thing is I would feel bad for yanderedev to go through all that trouble to redo those animations with new models after putting so much work into them with the current ones. It might be easier than I think but from the sound of it it didn’t seem so.
I’m not sure about that hairstyle though, her hair looks too round at the top, but I’m sure it will grow on me lol.
I always hated the weird… butt thing at the top of her head. And that is a model from the unity asset store so i think its okay to use.

Changing the uniform may be a great idea, but I wouldn’t replace the previous one with what Yandere Dev showed for a Kickstarter campaign.The uniform must NOT feel as generic as this one. Making sure there is not too much blue would be a good start.

It’s feels like a nod to school days which certainly would fit in with yanderesim. Although I think it might look more natural as a two piece(shirt and one piece outer dress) instead of a three piece.

The way the boobs are sectioned off is bad. really bad. I feel that this design does have potential though. How about instead of having those two straps come up to support the underboob… vest thing… that vest thing is more like a corset? It can fit there just by being cinched up. We of course don’t have to worry about physics getting in the way with this.

As an aspiring character designer, I’d like to throw in my two dollars for the color scheme decision.
While I like the overall design, I believe the section by the chest could be a tad lower so it’s not completely squishing the student’s chest – especially in Kokona Haruka and Mai Waifu’s case – and I would love to see buttons on it! As for color scheme, I believe a red bow or a dark color would remind the audience too much of school days. Furthermore, it may prove hard to see blood if the uniform is a dark color, though if Maybe a peach + olive, like this? I also tackled a red design, to see how I can make the blood still visible on it! I like to call it the ‘Phoenix Uniform’ ( What do you think about brown shoes instead? Personally, I like the first one more! )

It’s too cute! More I think it fits better in the game if the uniform worn by the mother of Yandere -chan , especially if he had the vest in brown half sepia and white blouse with a Red loop. It is with an air of Vintage , you know? To why people associate the uniform “Sailor” to the game! Really! people from all over the world , is United States, France, Germany, Brazil and other associated now! You only see a girl with a sadistic smile holding a fava and “Sailor” uniform dirty blood and ready , know that it is Yandere Simulator. In part, this stereotype is good because people recognize the time the game more is bad because it limits change in the game.
I’m going to be frank here. I hate the fact that the uniform makes her breasts stick out. I love the dress shirt and the ribbon, but the fact that the uniform puts an emphasis on her breasts just grosses me out. It’s just really, really gross.
I think it would be better if the shirt was white , the vest – dress was black and she wear a bowtie , you know? not a small loop , but rather , even a tie!
I saw some drawings on Pinterest uniform similar to that in black colors and I think the players would like! Now , in fact, many players complain that even puts extreme emphasis on the breasts and some characters like Kokona , would be ordinary.
