Indestructible Rival

If you’ve been following Yandere Simulator for a long time, you may have noticed the completely indestructible girl that has been standing underneath a cherry tree for over a year now. This girl – Rival-chan – was added to the game so that I could test out one specific feature. She doesn’t have a routine, she doesn’t interact with Senpai, and she doesn’t react to anything that happens in front of her.

She’s also completely indestructible.

Many YouTubers have tried to destroy her, but all of them have failed. This inspired me to create a short humorous skit about the subject!

On the topic of rivals, a lot of people have asked me why Rival-chan doesn’t move, and why I haven’t implemented a true rival yet. I’ll explain why:

First, I need to explain the significance of the rival. Yandere Simulator revolves entirely around the rival; stalking her, gossiping about her, embarrassing her, stealing from her, kidnapping her, framing her, outright killing her – and so on. In terms of game mechanics, the rival is an impending game over; a walking, talking time bomb. The very objective of the game is to eliminate her.

Because the rival is not implemented yet, you cannot “win” the game. Yandere Simulator doesn’t even qualify as a “game” yet, since the main objective can’t even be completed. As soon as I implement the rival, it will actually be possible to complete the main objective. It will be possible to “win”. In other words, Yandere Sim will finally become an actual game.

At this point in time, you can’t really “judge” Yandere Simulator, or determine whether or not it’s “fun”, because it’s not a game yet. As soon as a true rival is added to the game, Yandere Simulator can be fairly judged, and people will finally be able to determine whether or not it’s actually any fun, or worth playing.

At this point in time, you can’t critique Yandere Simulator’s gameplay, because there is none. As soon as the first official rival is added to the game, the gloves come off – it will be time to analyze, criticize, and scrutinize. Before that time comes, I have to make sure that Yandere Simulator’s game design and gameplay are solid.

Besides, I can’t just add a new student to the game, designate her as “the rival” and be done with it. No; a rival needs to be something much more than that:

  • The rival needs a very carefully-designed daily routine. Her routine needs to put her in close proximity to Senpai – or numerous witnesses – at nearly all times, so that it is not possible to just run right up to her and stab her and complete the game’s main objective within 60 seconds.
  • The rival needs to interact with Senpai. These events will not only demonstrate the two characters’ closeness, but also provide the player with opportunities to sabotage their interactions.
  • The rival needs to react to Yandere-chan’s presence in ways that the other NPCs do not. The rival should be able to realize that Yandere-chan is stalking her, and react accordingly.
  • Each one of the game’s 10 planned rival girls needs to have a district personality that is demonstrated through unique animations that other NPCs don’t possess.
  • The rival needs a “love confession under the cherry tree” cut-scene – and also a “rejected” cut-scene, as well.

In other words, adding a new student with a specific name and hairstyle is simply not good enough.

In short, I’m not going to implement a “true” rival unless she meets all of my standards and fulfills all of the criteria I want her to fulfill. I don’t want to half-ass the rival; the rivals are the focus of the game, and when I implement the first official rival, she needs to make people say “WOW! I finally understand what type of game Yandere Simulator is! I get it now!” and make people even more excited for the final product.

Ten rival girls are planned for Yandere Simulator, so the first rival has to make people say “That was awesome! I want to do that nine more times!”

Yeah, okay, whatever. Where’s the next update?

I’ve been very satisfied with my progress recently! I’m really happy with what I’ve been able to add to the game over the past 11 days. I feel confident that the next build will probably be ready on May 1st. After that, there are really only one or two other elimination methods I can implement without a rival present at school…in other words, I won’t be able to continue adding new elimination methods without adding a rival. So, within the next few months, it will become necessary to add the first official rival in order to continue development! She’s coming soon!

As always, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

  1. Ooohhh

I can’t wait for the next update! It’s also quite nice to hear that you’ve been quite happy while implementing some stuffs in the game over the past 11 days c:

Actually, just take all the time you need, Don’t rush anything ❤

  2. I’m so excited! I’ve been waiting for AGES and now the time is near and I really can’t wait! Congrats on finally getting this far, YandereDev! Whoo! A new milestone.

      • Actually, I don’t think he’s focusing on the delinquents right now. I’m not Yandere-Dev, but I’m pretty sure he’d want the delinquents to be strong and behave differently and probably wouldn’t allow us to kill them until he’s satisfied with how the delinquents behave.

      • yanderedev isnt going to answer every question he sees in the comment section this was a special exception or occurrence. If your scrolling (or hunting for his replies) through the comment section and happen to see him reply it doesnt mean you jump that comment and ask a bunch of questions waiting for him to grace his presence with another reply. he was just happy to reply to this one. 🙂

  3. Heh, in my YanSim video I spent a little over an hour trying to kill Rival-chan, looking up guides and even restarting the game a few times.

Thankfully, all that footage got corrupted, so the only surviving parts were the bits where I was actually doing stuff 😀

  4. yay! awesome to hear that progress is going nicely and it’s sooooo exiting to hear that the first real rival is coming! ^^ I’ve been following development for a little more than a year now and I just wanted to say thank you for taking up the initiative for making this game. Your vision for it is great and I’m super exited to play it. ^^

  5. It’s great to hear that progress is going good on the game! The video was very cutesy and hilarious, and for some reason reminded me of Tom and Jerry 🙂 Can’t wait for the last few elimination methods before Osana gets added with the rest! Keep up the great work Dev!

  6. Absolutely understand the need to make the rivals epic. One more thing a good rival needs in my opinion: something that makes the player, if only for a moment, consider “winning” without killing them. Playing as a yandere capable of murder, killing rivals is obviously a major option, but I want rivals that make me ponder other options. I want these characters to be so interesting that I actually look for alternatives. I think that’s the hallmark of a truly great antagonist.

That being said, after being an immortal and indestructible object for so long, Osana is going down when the time comes even if killing her makes me shed tears. No, that would be even better!

    • You will be able to get Senpai to reject them, you could also expel them, matchmake them with another student, and another “peaceful” elimination method that YandereDev doesn’t seem to be letting on about.

      • I think that “peaceful” method is Befriend. There are five elimination methods listed under Schemes that haven’t been implemented yet, and that’s one of them. The others are Cupid (matchmaking – already announced), Rejection (Senpai rejects your rival after you sabotage their interactions – also already announced), Crush (crushing your rival under a heavy object), and Betray (the sprite art shows Yandere-chan preparing to stab her rival, indicating that it’s not a peaceful method.) So, yeah, that only leaves Befriend.

  7. students should recognize yandere while killing someone, so police would have evidence enough to perform an arrest, otherwise it’s easy to run with your knife killing everybody and then burn the knife and clothes

    • This is just a debug build. If a bunch of students see Yandere-Chan killing someone, they’ll restrain her if there’s enough people. Eyewitnesses will be a feature. However, one eyewitness cannot cause Yandere-Chan to be arrested unless there’s other evidence like bloody weapons with fingerprints, bloody clothing etc.

  8. I don’t get it, if Yandere Dev doesn’t implement Osana, because he wants her to be unique from other students, interact with Senpai etc. then why did he implement Oka (of all other rivals)? She’s a rival too but she has a normal routine. (please, excuse my English)

    • I think thata’s beacuse he needed a leader to the Occult Club. In the final game, she may be as unique as other rivals.

      • But what about other leaders? Drama and cooking club leaders will also be rivals, but they’re not in the game. The occult club with robot leader would be pretty mutch the same.

      • I’m replying to morkcrow since I can’t reply to winter000. I think Yandere-Dev didn’t think of robot leaders before and I suppose he added Oka since he already had the model and stuff. Don’t take my word for it, though. Drama & cooking leaders WILL be rivals, but I’m pretty sure Yandere-Dev said that making new students takes time. Appreciate Oka’s cuteness while Yandere-dev ACTUALLY makes her a rival.

      • Yandere-Dev said he always imagined the Drama club leader as a girl with fancy, purple hair. It’s likely Kokona is gonna be the drama club leader, except she’ll be less likeable.

  9. It’s nice to hear that you’re happy with the work you’ve done! We all care about you, DevPai. By the way, I’m very excited to see Osana Najimi finally in the game, but take the time you need to finish it.

  10. Thanks for answering some of the questions yanderedev! It makes me more excited to see the first rival of the game. It must be pretty fun to kill ’em, draw a heart with their blood and show our skill to Senpai!

  12. This. This has me pumped for the next update! And even more so the final product. I can’t wait to see what YandereSim will be in its final stages. (Wish I could help. But, alas, I lack the proper skill to do so…)

  13. This is the point where we should make guesses about what kind of rivals will appear in the final game.

I am going to jump the gun and say one of the rivals will be a teacher 😀 Cause I think that would be pretty hilarious.

  14. I love you yandere dev I am one obedient fan here who never sent you emails or requests or anything that may bother you and always been cheering for you in the back ♥ love you so much senpai

  15. Take your time, DevPai, we’ll patiently wait. So excited for Osana-chan to be in the game! I never really liked Rival-chan. Although, to be fair, I also want Osana-chan to die.

  16. Hey Yandere Dev, why doesn’t Yandere-chan just confess her love to Senpai under the tree on Friday? Like, beat Osana-chan to it if she can. Then, if the myth is proved to be true, he will be guarantied to accept Yandere-chan’s confession. Right?

  17. I figured this was why there was no rival. That doesn’t bother me; it is a sandbox build. But it appears Oka is going to be a rival. I don’t really want her to be because I don’t want to ruin her life; I like her. I guess during real gameplay, I’ll have to matchmake her. However, I think it would be REALLY interesting if Oka was possessed by the ghost in the bathroom and “loved” sempai because the ghost wants revenge on Yandere-chan since her mother killed her. Now THAT would be fun. Then we could exorcise Oka as an “elimination” method!

And please let us kill the delinquents soon.

    • Except he didn’t say it was a game yet and he didn’t say, “Don’t critique my game because I’m not done yet.” He said, “Don’t critique Yandere Simulator’s gameplay because it has none.” He also made it clear that Yandere Simulator isn’t a game yet since there are no win conditions yet.

      • It DOES come off as saying “don’t critique it” you can say it’s not a game but people treat it as such and he’s treated it as such until this point.

  18. What if we just do Info-Chan? I mean she SAYS that she’s giving us all the info we want to know, but is she really? She could like Senpai behind everyone’s back, and no one knows! She could text Senpai and have a nice conversation and tell him all the things that he likes in a woman, Info-Chan texts Yandere-Chan that she found ‘someone’ that is going to kiss Senpai under the Cherry tree, yet she doesn’t ‘know’ who it is but is going to be at Friday, and Yandere-Chan has to stalk every girl in school, although she has a little hunch that it might be Info-Chan, so she tries as hard as she can to find out it is. Isn’t that a story for ya’!

    • Info-chan was actually going to be the tenth rival and use Yandere-chan to get rid of the rivals. They would fight to the death on the rooftop. But that idea was scrapped.

  20. When I saw this video I thought he added in a rival that is like Rival~Chan, but is like Osana, Student Concil Pres., Deliquint Leader, Cooking Pres., Drama Pres., Senpai’s Sister, or another one of them. I mean isn’t the Nurse going to be a rival so technically there is a indestructible rival. Also why doesn’t he give Rival~Chan a schedule just not killable

      • Dude!!! I fucking know that! I thought he just added a rival to stand there and just to be there to just have an actual rival in the game other than Oka, but not killable, but then I saw the picture of the video and saw it was rival chan I know what rival chan was used for I didn’t mean anything like rival chan just similar so pay attention before writing something!
