Depending on your perception of Yandere Simulator, and depending on what you think the game is supposed to be about, you might be surprised to hear this, but I don’t think that “Yandere Simulator” is the most appropriate title for this game.
I’ve put my thoughts into a video:
As usual, I’d like to ask the community what they think about my latest proposal.
Should I re-name Yandere Simulator?
How do you feel about the name “LoveSick”?
Also, just for fun:
Which of these is your favorite name?
The last time I polled the fanbase, I think I got a pretty clear picture of the game’s audience. However, I’d like to run those polls again to find out if Yandere Simulator’s fanbase has changed over the past year.
What do you want the MOST from Yandere Simulator?
Those are the only polls that I’m prepared to create right now. I might want to poll the community on other matters in the future, but for now, that’s all I’ve got.
What’s next?
I spent the first three days of the month fixing bugs. Making the “Past, Present, and Future” video took several days, I spent several days getting my computer operational after my main hard drive died, and making the “Should Yandere Simulator be re-named?” video took several more days. Now it’s January 13th, which leaves me with about 1 day to try and update Yandere Simulator. (Since it takes at least 1 day to make an update video, I’d have to work on the 13th, record a video on the 14th, and upload it on the 15th).
It’s nearly impossible to accomplish anything significant within 1 day, so I don’t think you should get too excited for a spectacular update on the 15th. I’m going to try my best to implement something special that I think will only take one day to implement, but I don’t want to make any promises.
By the way – if you’ve been following this blog for over a year, you might recall that January 17th and January 19th are special days for me. I’ll be hosting a special event on Jan 17th and 19th. I’ll make a blog post with the details on Jan 16th. However, it’s completely unrelated to Yandere Simulator, so I’ll delete the blog post after the event ends.
By the way…
In my latest video, I prominently featured three indie games: Surgeon Simulator, Goat Simulator, and Shower With Your Dad Simulator. I used these games as an example of why the word “Simulator” is associated with humor. However, I wasn’t trying to imply that these are bad games, I wasn’t trying to imply that these games are poorly designed, and I wasn’t trying to shame the developers of these games. I’ve played all of those games, and I got a laugh out of each one of them! I’m merely trying to communicate the fact that I don’t want Yandere Simulator to be dismissed as a joke simply because it has the word “Simulator” in the title. I intend to spend the next few years of my life trying to make sure that this game has excellent gameplay and solid design, and it would be very sad if all my work goes to waste because of a word in the game’s title.

Since the game might definitely be getting renamed to something like “LoveSick: The Yandere Simulator,” I plan to ask for YandereDev, what would YOU like to see in Snap Mode?
He said it would mos likely be Ayano a.k.a Yandere-chan killing Senpai then herself.
You’ve crossed the memegame boundary long ago yandere dev
you are a meme, embrace it
Broken HDD? Must be a pain in the ass to reinstall windows.
Sadly my rig broke due to a power surge, since the 20th of November, and I’ve been very, very behind on my side of the work. (1.4k USD a sad day)
I think changing the name would be a good idea. The word “Simulator” now has been set as a joke and for people that starting to get into the development would feel as if it is not in a good taste. ( catching up to current events. (Kickstarter etc.))
It would be ideal and would be presented a more finished product. Lovesick is a great idea Mr. YanDev, though it would be feel too less of a title and showcase the product as a “Horror”. With your intention of the gameplay artwork being mask as a “slice of life style”, It would be more fitting, in my opinion, to make the title as a main title and a sub title.
I was thinking maybe “Akademi HighSchool : Lovesick”, “Akademi Highschool : A Love Unbounded”, or even “Highschool Stories : Yandere (and/or) Lovesick”
It just my thought into help finding Yandere SImulator a proper name.
I love the name of Yandere simulator, but it can be a subtitle. Sick of love, school (insert tittle here)
And if you want to translate into spanish the game I can help you (im from spain, so i can lend you a hand)
Please, no translations like, “ondaaa vitaaal”, without any offense
Im sorry but I’m laughing so hard right now because “tittle”
I’d recommend staying away from “Love” in the title. It carries a sweet connotation, and could easily be written off as a romance/visual novel type game. Maybe something simple like “Crush,” which could mean strong infatuation or squashing (inferring the violence in the game). Like many other mentioned, I’d also recommend retaining “Yandere” in the title, to help promote the Japanese influences and art style of the game.
But Yandere-chan is in love, and with the word ”sick” it suggests something obsessive; Also, it will have the word ”yandere” in the title (as a subtitle, well). I think ”crush” isn’t enough; ”lovesick” doesn’t suggest a romance, or at least that’s what I think.
I think you already know a lot about the game, that’s why it doesn’t come off as too lovey-dovey. But I’m talking about someone who is unfamiliar with it. If they just see ‘Lovesick’ (especially guys, sorry), they may pass it off as dumb or girly. As YandereDev said, it’s a horrible game *disguised* as a girly game, but if someone doesn’t know that and they just go off of what they see, they may think it’s *just* a girly game and never give it a chance, similar to the effect on leaving the word “Simulator’ in the title.
After some thought (Google searches), I agree with you. I hadn’t heard the term “lovesick” before, but it does describe Yanderechan’s obsession well. Other conditions like erotomania and limerence may also be good descriptors of Yanderechan (but of course, not very marketable). But I still think a game with “love” in the title, plus the pink hearts from the logo would give the impression of a dating/romance-type game, especially by someone just quickly browsing Steam.
“Crush” is already the name of a video game for 3DS/PSP. Pretty damn good game, too.
And I love the way you are creating the game, its full of fresh ideas. History is great (much better than most current animes) And why not mix the eliminationg of competitors[why not make them apear randomly? making each game different] with seducing sempai? (the final mision :P, if you fail, game over ) and i think that each npc will have their own routine (
wait, lovesession would be a nice name ^^
You need to keep the name as it is already very well known thanks to various LPers on YouTube. And I still like the name.
I thought about this like three days ago, so I’m really satisfied whit this decision; I never liked the word ”simulator” on the title, especially because it didn’t seem serious to me. I really like the name ”LoveSick”, it sounds impressive and it refflects its essence of the game, at least for me. Also, I like the idea of adding ”Yandere Simulator” as a subtitle, it sounds pretty good.
And remember, the game it’s NOT so much known yet, so now it’s the time, remember what happened to U2, they didn’t liked it but it was too late, so I guess that you should do it now, it’s the perfect moment. And there is a lot of people that follows this blog or the videos, so most of them will know that the name is ”LoveSick”.
At first glance of the post I though “No, I like Yandere Simulator,” but after watching the video I greatly agree with YandereDevs idea of Lovesick (an awesome title for it) with the subtext “Yandere Simulator,” especially since it gives it a well thought out name, and also keeps the name that we have grown to know and love. On a side not, Yandere Sim definitely deserves the name “Lovesick” more than that flash game.
I..like The name Lovesick , but …. If you find another name … a better name than this one , please put it in the game (Sorry if i have a bad or simple English , i’m from Spain and , sometimes I …Ah! Forget I said anything!.. :v
I would weed the title out of commission slowly. Use sizing of logos to your advantage. add Lovesick above the current yandere logo, then make a full sized Lovesick logo and use the current full sized Yandere Simulator logo to the right of Lovesick(maybe with a line separator, or not). Next, shrink Yandere Simulator to the subtitle version, but do not attach to Lovesick yet, keep the side-by-side, Then put it under Lovesick as a subtitle like you’ve shown, slowing decreasing the sizing of the subtitle, and maybe increasing Lovesick sizing as needed to put emphasis. Finally drop it all together, maybe put a formerly known as title on this site. This would be my methodology.
Lol, reading those comments I remembered one funny story… In our state there was a brand named “Božkov”, their main product was rum, but some Cuban assholes found out and beacouse “rum” is actually copyrighted, they made them to erase that word from the lable… On first time, there was only smaller subtitle ,”rum”, than they made it smaller, and smaller and now it’s called just “Božkov”, but everybody knows it’s actually still rum… You know what am I saying? : D They slowly removed the part of products name they weren’t allowed to use by making it as subtitle. And that’ll sooner or later actually be the case even with YanSim, from cummunitys side, or Devs. For example, who the heck remembers Mirror’s Edge subtitle, I didn’t even knew it have one… So why to bother with subtitle if it’s one day gonna just vanish anyway?
I like LoveSick as an alternative name (however, since it’s easy to found game plays, everyone at this time of the game knows that YS isn’t about easy laughs and we know that the final game isn’t going to be easier as now is).
Also, it’s fun to know that it’s almost equitative that guys and gals are playing Yandere Simulator
I think something simple like “lover” or “secret love” would do just fine, don’t restrict to showing the concept of yandere in the title, a horrifying word + a cute background is nice but personally I prefer a nice, innocent or even slightly too cute word written in blood with a dark themed background is better.
The reason I don’t like the word lovesick is that yandere is not really experiencing lovesick, she’s just afraid of losing him, that’s not lovesick, to me, this game expresses more love than sick, sure, the love is twisted, but it is love, please don’t cloud that with a title like lovesick
“This game expresses more love than sick”
Yandere chan is literally murdering people for talking to senpai (or even looking at him). She’s framing girls for murdering her friends. She’s spreading rumors about girls to get them to kill themselves.
I hardly see how the love overcomes the sick. LoveSick is perfect for Yandere chan.
I agree with the sentiment that LoveSick: A Yandere Simulator would be the most appropriate title (perhaps even stylize it as LoveSICK to emphasize the sickness and disgusting aspect of the word)
As for alternative titles I would suggest:
LoveSick: A Yandere Game
Yandere: A love story
Ayana-chan’s super happy lovey dovey story
Hey Yandere Dev I understand u don’t like that Simulator could be passed by as a joke but I like the name when I think Yandere Simulator I think YES FUN when I think Lovesick I think Wierd stupid and I think maybe u should make it Yandere High because it is a description of the game basically ur in high school and ur a Yandere and also maybe the name could be Yandere Simulation which sticks true to the original name yet changes it so it no longer has the word Simulator in the name and passed by as a joke P.S. Could I be a volunteer for u I love ur work and want to make games in the future myself but I need some practice so plz think about the names Yandere High and Yandere Simulation and maybe me being a volunteer -love Foxy
Yandere : Lovesick
You already have a perfect title with Yandere, just drop the simulator part and add your preferred title. Then if you decide to make a sequel (for whatever reason), Yandere: “insert title here”. No one’s going to get lost and all still functions as it should.
Well, if the name is changed I would like sub tittles because I know a lot of people who play this game don’t really follow the development of the game. So I think its a good idea to give it a sub tittle.
I guess LoveSick is okay, but I think you should stick Yandere Simulator
But for alternative names I was thinking:
Innocent Murderer
Or
Innocent Psychopath
“Innocent” really isn’t a word to describe Yandere chan lol
(I think) He said something about the game having to realate to ‘deredere’ and innocent was the closest one I could come up with
I posted this as a YouTube comment so I’m just doing a copypasta
I know it seems like a stretch but everyone, please read my comment and hear me out. For the title, I was actually thinking “Lovesick Story” or “Lovesick Days”, both very unique titles that still use the word “Lovesick”.
This eliminates the “simulator” part of the title and adds a more “anime” feel to the game, much like it is now. You can also use “yandere simulator” as a linked search term so that way when people search for the game but aren’t aware of its name change, it will still show up and you won’t have to put it as a subtitle. You also eliminate the possibility of someone dismissing the game as a joke because of the Lovesick bride and groom shitting and vomiting everywhere game. Since the title is unique, it also would take a shorter amount of time to look for since it won’t get bunched in with everything else that’s linked to the word “lovesick”. Should you choose either of these titles or something like it, you won’t run into any possible problems with trademarking because others have trademarked the word “lovesick”, even if it is for other kinds of businesses. As I said, my title suggestions will solve a lot of possible problems but in the end, it’s ultimately up to you what you decide to name it. I’ll still support you and fund you on Patreon because I absolutely love YanSim so far.
bravo for the accomplished work. ;-)
Personally I would like it to be called Yandere High School
Yandere Simulator: Senpai Mania
You say that, because you want to be in the title, Senpai!
Yandere High
LoveSick
You still can release January 15th update without video by making this update sound as bug fixes update with just some new features. Good luck YandereDev.
BTW: I’m streaming Yandere Simulator from time to time, so.:)
Or maybe once this game is complete you can start a LoveSick series with the one being the first? So LoveSick: Yandere High
One small concern about the subtitle solution, wasn’t one of your main reasons for changing the tile was to get the term “Simulator” out of the title? If you make it “LOVESICK: Yandere Simulator” doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the rename?
However, if you just named it “LOVESICK” I think you do lose a lot “brand value”, Without knowing anything about the game I expect a game named “Yandere ______” to be about a Japanese Yandere school girl. I am not sure what to expect from a game just titled “LOVESICK”.
I think you should do LOVESICK with some sub title, and have Yandere in the subtitle but not use the word simulator. Maybe something like “LOVESICK: A Yandere Story” or something.
(For the record, on the polls I voted “Keep the name” but I also voted “Love It” for the new name.)
Oooh! I just had a Idea. Make the title “LOVESICK: ヤンデレシミュレータ” (that’s Japanese for Yandere Simulator according to google translate)
Wouldn’t adding Japanese make it harder for his target demographic (Americans) to search it?
LOVESICK: A Yandere Story looks good, or maybe even Yandere: LoveSick.
Something with Sempai in the name, may like “My Sempai” or “I love Sempai” with yandere sim as the subtitle
Just sharing a little thought here:
Personally, I like the name “Yandere Simulator” a lot, but I never considered “Simulator” having a dismissive connotation; I understand where Yandere Dev is coming from though. “Lovesick” sounds great, but “Yandere Simulator” is more on the creative side; it stands out among other games because “yandere” is such a novelty, and the name itself became a trademark more than it had become a meme. I don’t think fusing the two together is that much of a good idea. I mean, putting both as a complete title sounds redundant, and it would feel like he is adjusting to satisfy everyone, which is just impossible in most cases, so the title should just be one or the other. At the end of the day, Yandere Dev first brought up this awesome concept of a game and made it possible for us; we came here because we enjoy what he does, so he shouldn’t force himself to accommodate OUR will. Therefore, it wouldn’t be too much of a problem if he decides to change the name in any way he wishes.
I think that the name “PsychoLover” (“Psycho”: psychopath and “Lover”… I think that te meaning of “Lover” is clear) is a good idea, because have a similar meaning like “LoveSick”. Just consider it.
Call it “Love You to Death.”! xD
What about the name “Yandere Love Sick”
No response needed, I love your ideas yandere dev, their awesome and I WILL WAIT for them to be done in your time. don’t over exert your self and stay positive my friend, that game of yours is going to get bigger before you know it.
I don’t really like Lovesick I prefer something like DementedLove. But I do agree with you on needing to change the name.
I was thinking either Yuno the game or School Days (Jk)
LoveSick is a brilliant title imo!
Unyielding Love
Some definitions of the word Unyielding.
-not changing or stopping
-not flexible or soft
There’s also like a bajillion Synonyms of Unyielding too, like Relentless, Merciless, Unwavering, Ruthless, Steadfast, Resolute.
I like ruthless love.
I would like to suggest a title: Maiden Heart. It’s both innocent and “baitable” title.
LoveSick is the best choice out of all the other titles I’ve seen suggested. It’s not some combination of a bunch of descriptive words like a google-translated pass of ‘Yandere’–it’s simple and professional (even moreso the latter if the capital in ‘sick’ would be gotten rid of). The only drawback, aside from the ones stated in the video, is that it’s hard to search for due to being a word.
No matter what you choose though, ‘Yandere’ should be left out of the title. It seems that a lot of people, especially those who may be new to this trope, are under the impression that it is a serious word due to it having serious connotations. However, it’s not. It’s on the same joke level as the term ‘Simulator’–even moreso. Now that the game is revealed to be dealing with serious matters in a serious fashion, as opposed to just being a parody, ‘Yandere’ is definitely not something that should be used.
I think ‘Yandere’ is hardly close to being a joke term like Simulator is. The only thing close to it being a joke would be Yuno Gasai, who’s strong click bait anyway. If anything, bringing ‘Yandere’ into the title will cause more traffic.
Plus…. It IS a game about a yandere. Including as a subtitle would be the way to go. It’s not in your face but it’s still there to help people navigate to it. If you just Google ‘lovesick game,’ odds are you wouldn’t find YanSim. But something like ‘LoveSick: Yandere Sim’ (or whatever he decides), that’ll ultimately guide people to the game because it’s unique.
Lovesick sounds a bit too cutsey to me, and might lose you an audience that was drawn by ‘Yandere simulator.’ That being said, i don’t think your titles are far off being well constructed. But you need to leave in a hint of the evil beneath. Lovesick isn’t a term people use to describe Yandere feelings. You say someone is lovesick when they’re madly in love, or very happily in love as well. It’s a term that ranges. I propose putting an ending on it, and I like the idea of the subtitle. Boom:
Lovesickness: A Yandere Story.
Putting the “ness” on the end makes sick into it’s Bad-form. Sickness is something you use to describe someone who is truly ill, or mentally off. I think your search for a good title could still have some honing to undergo. But I do agree with your feelings. Simulator is a title for a goofy april fool’s style game, these days. Your game COULD absolutely be one of those. But I hope to god it isn’t. I prefer hitman with schoolgirls.
I think a good way to combat the cuteness of Lovesick would just to be to have the Love part be in pink font or something and then Sick in black or red and in different font. Also, the way he presented the Lovesick title, it was all in red and in very dramatic slasher font if that makes sense lol so I think people could tell if not from the name itself, that from looking at the title how he presents it that its not a romance or cutsey game. Does that make sense? Also, I think Yandere should still be incorporated into the title, such as “Lovesick: A Yandere Tale”, that way if people know what a Yandere is they should get it.
I think that most of us [if not ALL OF US agree that the term “simulator” is an issue. But “Yandere” is the keyword of the game. With it the people who know (memorize) the term (which make for most of your target audience) instantly understand, even vaguely, what the game is about.Yandere dev,if you Remove “Yandere” from the title of the game you wil COMPLETLY LOSE A HUGE ESSENTIAL PART OF YOUR MARKETING AND PUBLISITY!.AND sense A BUNCH of people already know that the word ‘Yandere’ ,that means that when alot of people type in google or ANY other search engine type Yandere’,they may get NOTHING or just SUPER OLD AND UN-RETHORICAL POSTS!
I dont understand the option “Lovesick: A Yandere Simulator” I thought the whole idea was to get rid of the Yandere Simulator in the title, not reposition it, because I agree that the word “simulator” makes it seem like a funny joke game, which is exactly what I thought of it when I heard the games current title and is probably what other gamers will think of it too that aren’t familiar with the game when you release it. I like Lovesick, although I do think you should figure out a way to incorporate Yandere into the title. But I don’t think Yandere: LoveSick sounds very good. I think if you feel as strong as you say about the title “Lovesick,” thats the word that should appear first in the title. I like the option of, “Lovesick: A Yanderes Tale”. Good Luck!
Plain and simple I like Yandere simulator. Love sick doesn’t present as a dark murderous game. Sounds like someone is heartbroken or just tired of romance.
That is why I suggest something like. Twisted Love or Fatal Attraction. Demented Affection.
Something along those lines. Sick is the actual word issue as combined with love it sounds as if someone is sick of love.
I know chances are this will only be read by other commenters if even that but there’s my two grains of salt.
P.s. I would like to add I love the progress so far but in the videos, the monotonous tone is a little, no offense, boring. Spice it up a little. Take on a different tone, or ask one of your voice actors to help maybe? Again I mean no offense, just videos tend to get a little… Tiresome without some energy in the narrator. It sounds like your reading a paper for an English class. Make it sound more like you’re proclaiming your love to senpai or threatening one of your rivals. Just add more enthusiasm.
How about the name Happy smile, evil heart. Or the darkness behind the smile
>>>>>>>>>>Yanderphobia<<<<<<<<<<
THE BIGOT OF GIRL
i like this new idea of a title ;3 pretty unique to me
me gusta Yandere Simulator no quiero que cambies el nombre es mejor asi como esta por favor no lo cambies
How about *”Lovesick: Deadication”*, *”Lovesick Deadication”* ((without the colon)), or *”Deadication”*? It has the same connotation as “LoveSick” and one really similar to the essence and meaning behind the term “yandere”.
You’re right – due to the word being a culmination of two Japanese adjectives/terms, it’s hard to translate accurately without getting some off-sounding titles (think “Insane Love” or “Deadly Affections”, which aren’t bad per se but don’t have a flow or exactly hit-the-nail-on-its-head kind of ring to them) in the mix. It’s a tricky balance, and why game companies’s translator groups get praised so much when their final product is near-perfect.
If all else, I think keeping it as *”LoveSick: A Yandere Simulator”* or *”LoveSick: A Yandere Simulation”* would be the way to go if the above suggestions are too much or not what you’re looking for. The other suggestions sounds silly, ex. “A Yandere’s Tale/Story” making the game sound gimmicky and cheesy, and “Yandere: LoveSick” and vice-versa are just nonsensical/an amalgamation of words.
I enjoy how seriously you’re taking this game. Good luck on the progress, and be sure not to stress yourself out too much. Remember: three meals a day keeps the doctors away!
I really find “LoveSick” to the most compelling name. Especially if it’s the best English equivalent of Yandere. Some may debate that having “Love” attached to anything at all might confuse the genre for romance/drama, but in games, the visual that comes attach to the name says harder.
You say the game should come seem innocent enough, but horrifying in hindsight like Yandere-Chan herself. So along with the juxtaposition of A sweet school girl should be silhouettes of slashed dead bodies.
The title should be “Love/Sick”
Pronounced “Love Slash Sick”
Or something like “Killer Crush” if you want to get cheesy slasher flicks. But that’s not serious enough. Honestly, if there’s some narrative important thing you haven’t revealed about the game that has a namesake for Yandere-chan, go with that.
A great idea I saw on the youtube comments for the name of the game was ‘Love Sick: A Yandere Tale’ It has the name that Yandere Dev suggested, and the part of the original name as well. So pretty much the best of both worlds in a way?
Honesty, I’ve heard of the word lovesick before. In TV shows, movies and others places. And it usually happens when you brake up or are rejected. And the person who is lovesick is usually depressed. (e.g. staying at home in bed, the world sucks, sick over/of love) While this isn’t the definitive meaning. I believe it is more common.
Of course putting Yandere Simulator under lovesick and how the title appears will get it across with what you mean by lovesick. However I still think lovesick isn’t the best name. I can’t anything better atm. Anyways! Keep your mind open and don’t settle for lovesick just yet.
