Should Yandere Simulator be re-named?

Depending on your perception of Yandere Simulator, and depending on what you think the game is supposed to be about, you might be surprised to hear this, but I don’t think that “Yandere Simulator” is the most appropriate title for this game.

I’ve put my thoughts into a video:

As usual, I’d like to ask the community what they think about my latest proposal.

Should I re-name Yandere Simulator?

How do you feel about the name “LoveSick”?

Also, just for fun:

Which of these is your favorite name?

The last time I polled the fanbase, I think I got a pretty clear picture of the game’s audience. However, I’d like to run those polls again to find out if Yandere Simulator’s fanbase has changed over the past year.

How old are you?

What is your gender?

What do you want the MOST from Yandere Simulator?

Those are the only polls that I’m prepared to create right now. I might want to poll the community on other matters in the future, but for now, that’s all I’ve got.

What’s next?

I spent the first three days of the month fixing bugs. Making the “Past, Present, and Future” video took several days, I spent several days getting my computer operational after my main hard drive died, and making the “Should Yandere Simulator be re-named?” video took several more days. Now it’s January 13th, which leaves me with about 1 day to try and update Yandere Simulator. (Since it takes at least 1 day to make an update video, I’d have to work on the 13th, record a video on the 14th, and upload it on the 15th).

It’s nearly impossible to accomplish anything significant within 1 day, so I don’t think you should get too excited for a spectacular update on the 15th. I’m going to try my best to implement something special that I think will only take one day to implement, but I don’t want to make any promises.

By the way – if you’ve been following this blog for over a year, you might recall that January 17th and January 19th are special days for me. I’ll be hosting a special event on Jan 17th and 19th. I’ll make a blog post with the details on Jan 16th. However, it’s completely unrelated to Yandere Simulator, so I’ll delete the blog post after the event ends.

By the way…

In my latest video, I prominently featured three indie games: Surgeon Simulator, Goat Simulator, and Shower With Your Dad Simulator. I used these games as an example of why the word “Simulator” is associated with humor. However, I wasn’t trying to imply that these are bad games, I wasn’t trying to imply that these games are poorly designed, and I wasn’t trying to shame the developers of these games. I’ve played all of those games, and I got a laugh out of each one of them! I’m merely trying to communicate the fact that I don’t want Yandere Simulator to be dismissed as a joke simply because it has the word “Simulator” in the title. I intend to spend the next few years of my life trying to make sure that this game has excellent gameplay and solid design, and it would be very sad if all my work goes to waste because of a word in the game’s title.

  1. it’s weird seeing so many people who hate the name in the comments when Lovesick is clearly winning in the polls! lol
Anyway, i think you sold us the new name very well in your video. I think the huge fanbase you have gathered will play it no matter what you name it, but im pretty sure some new players would be discourage from buying it if they read the word SIMULATOR in it.
I like Lovesick because it hids the real insanity of the game, and i think that’s fun! All the other names i read people suggest remind me too much of visual novel fan games, and that’s something you don’t want people to confuse you with either.
The name has to be something catchy and easy to remember, i think Lovesick does the part.

  2. I would really like the name “LoveSick: Yandere Simulator” for the game! I dunno, as long as it has the word “Yandere Simulator” in it, and people won’t really think it’s “a stupid, boring, random game” with the word “LoveSick” in it, then I’m fine with “Lovesick: Yandere Simulator”. :3
    I’m just used to the name “Yandere Simulator”, that’s why. ;w;

  4. I don’t know about Lovesick, it’s kinda overused. Anime’s and manga like to slap love on to a word left and right. It’s not bad I just don’t feel it grabs attention like yandere Simulator. Even though it’s wining in the polls. So since I’m poo pooing it. I will offer idea’s to be poo pooed apon myself. *Nekokaburi (A wolf in sheep’s clothing)
    Yandere Simulator
    *Tokotsubo Syndrome (Heartbreak disease)
    Yandere Simulator
    *Honne and Tatemae(desire and facade)
    Yandere Simulator
    *You are A Stalker!
    *Highschool Oni!
    Yandere Simulator
    *You Can’t Live Without Me!
Someone probably already suggested some of these but still for ones consideration.

    • In YandereDev’s FAQ (yanderesimulator.com/about) he already answered this.

“Yandere Simulator may seem like a simple game at this point in time, but the final version of the game will be extremely complex. It is extremely unlikely that a mobile device such as the 3DS, Vita, iPhone, or Android could ever run the full version of Yandere Simulator. In order to run on a mobile device, the game would have to be simplified so much that it wouldn’t even be fun anymore.”

  5. instead of using lovesick, since that already exists as a game (a completely disgusting and stupid one i might add) you could use lovesickness
i know it doesn’t sound as good and simple as lovesick, but its possibly something that could be used?
i googled “lovesickness game” & no game beside lovesick and this page game up, so if you rename yandere simulator “lovesickness” your game would come up when searched for
plus it sounds much more professional than yandere simulator
    just a suggestion
thank you for sharing the development of the game and good luck with it

  6. i know i’m late, but seriously, as person questioning their gender i was offended by the gender poll… there’s more than two genders πŸ™‚ and i hate the name “lovesick”. sorry, but it doesn’t sound right, and as someone alrady said, the word “lovesick” is overused. also, as a fellow otaku, i don’t think “lovesick” suits yandere-chan, it doesn’t sound really yandere. also, this game is already popular, so changing the name would be confusing to newest fans. and name “yandere simulator” suits this game very well. and i, personally, don’t think the word “simulator” makes a game humoristic. but this is your game, name it however you want! i will always be clling it “yandere simulator”, but it doesn’t really matter. you have made a great game, and i’m looking forward to updates.
