Halloween Update

Happy Halloween, everyone! Just like last year, it’s time for a…

 Yandere Sim Spooktacular!

Let’s start off with some absolutely beautiful fan-art by the incredibly talented Chatgaga Letouffu!

Gorgeous, huh? Next, check out this Halloween comic illustrated by SRealms!

But, I know what you’re really here for…the latest video! Here it is! Go ahead and watch it!

I hope you enjoyed that video – between October 18th and October 31st, I worked on that minigame for about 156 hours! I completely abstained from video games for 13 days straight in order to prepare that minigame in time for for Halloween.

The entire time that I was working on it, I was pretty nervous. After all, it’s really easy to come up with a big reason to dislike the latest addition to the game; it’s a mini-game that has nothing to do with the core gameplay! In other words, although I worked for 156 hours over a course of 13 days, I didn’t make a single bit of progress on Yandere Sim’s core gameplay; instead, I made a mini-game that can be beaten within 5 minutes! I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people react to this video by saying “YandereDev, you idiot! Work on the main game! Don’t work on silly little pet projects!”

However, I believe that this minigame/video is important, because it serves several purposes:

  1. This minigame demonstrates what I want the “Video Games” feature in Yandere-chan’s room to be like. I’d like to have at least 4 other minigames just like this.
  2. This minigame demonstrates what type of game I’d like to make once Yandere Simulator is finished – a fast-paced high-energy action game, with crazy attacks and dramatic boss fights! It could be a side-scroller, a shoot-em-up, or a hack-and-slash; I just want to work on an action game!
  3. This minigame serves as a short vacation from Yandere Simulator, while still contributing to Yandere Simulator. In the past, I made dozens of small game prototypes like this one. I was a much happier person back when I was making several “rapid prototypes” every month. I stopped doing that, and turned Yandere Simulator into my full-time job. However, I never stopped yearning to make more “rapid prototypes” like this two-week project. Working on “Yanvania” helped me get away from Yandere Sim for a couple of weeks, but it’s not a total waste, since the result is something that can be featured within the game.
  4. This minigame serves as a “pitch” for a future game. As you can tell from watching the end of the video, I already have a premise/plot/storyline in mind. After watching the above video, do you think you’d want to play “Yanvania: Senpai of the Night”, or something similar to it? Perhaps a poll is in order.

Of course, working for 156 hours and completely abstaining from video games doesn’t really sound like much of a “vacation”, now, does it? Also, if people react negatively to the “Yanvania” minigame and wish I’d been working on the core game instead, then I guess I wasted the last 13 days of my life pretty badly!

In any case, two things are for certain:

  1. The next update should be coming very soon: in less than a week! And this time, it will be an addition to the core gameplay!
  2. I hope that you all have a wonderful Halloween!

EDIT 1:

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot! If you like the “Yanvania: Senpai of the Night” title screen artwork illustrated by that-bleach-fan, you can download it here!

EDIT 2:

By the way! There’s an easter egg hidden in the Yanvania title screen. I wonder if anyone will find it?

EDIT 3:

Wow! My biggest mistake yet – I forgot to mention the talented gentlemen who contributed the music for this minigame!

The “Boss Approach” music and “Boss Battle” music were composed by by Darrell “Dibur” Reconose!

The Title Screen music was composed by Christopher Escalante, who also composed music for Seduce Me 2!

  1. Even if it is just a minigame, I enjoyed seeing this update. It adds a little more life to Yandere Sim overall. Thank you for working so hard on this little treat, and I’m looking forward to the next update.

  2. It’s really alright, in fact I actually am fond of the minigame personally. Take time completing the core game on your own accord.

  3. I did not expect minigame. It looks cool and all, but it would work better if it was in 2.5D. As for your question if this game should be full game my answer is: HELL YES! But only if budget would be big enough (I don’t want you to “waste” time on things like this, instead of core game). Also I think that you should unlock some sort of weapon after you beaten the game.

PS:YandureDew, U idiomt!!11!! Wurk on mein geme! Dont wurk on sily liltle projects!!!11! Als o wil osana evah mowe?

  4. modyshah Are you kidding you that the mini-games are not enough and you’re even more like to do something like that and then, and talk.

  6. I personally love the update! (Especially the cover art of Yanvania: Senpai of the Night, mainly because Yan-chan looks really fetching.)

Personally, I feel that the update is a really good move because it puts players in Yan-chan’s shoes: they’re actually doing things at night after a long day of school (a long day of gossiping, a long day of kidnapping, a long day of mind-controlling your kidnapped-victims all while juggling classes and homework…). What better way than to unwind by playing video games?

It’s a lot more natural and it increases the overall feel of a realistic gameplay for Yandere Simulator. Please do as you like, YandereDev, and we’re all rooting for you!

  7. Yanvania would be a neat distraction in YanSim, but as a full game, I’d pass. It just doesn’t tickle my fancy see.
Although I would very much like to see what other minigames could spawn :3. Call of Dere: Modern Yandere makes me giggle.
Either way minigames are a good thing all around. As you said yourself, contributes to the core game and let’s you try other things for a change.

    Keep on keepin’ on YanDev!

  8. The only complaint I have is that there wasn’t your voice in this update 😛

I would like to play Yanvania or similar games as long as they have a good story plot.

  9. First reaction: “Well this kind of sucks. I was kind of expecting something related to the actual game itself. I’m not sure what, but it wasn’t this.”
After err… “Finishing” the game: “I WANT MOOOORE!”
…Maybe I should just borrow the game from my brother then. xD

  10. wow its just 1 stupid mini game but its ok at least you work hard for it but i dont like it to bethe whole game maybye it can be a mode of the game but my answer is meh

  11. I just wanted to let you know thank you for the mini game.

I just wanted to inform you about a couple of bugs in detail.

    Glitches:
Was cleaning up blood during lunch tine and at the end of lunch while i was dipping the mop with blood into the bucket and senpai noticed me and i stayed in one spot while fiddling with my hands like yandere would usually would do.

When i kill the teacher with the easter egg Cirno the blood is not shown on the floor where the teacher stands and is under the wood she stand on.
While using the cirno easter egg and when im expelled her hair disappears.

When i send saki miyu to kill kokona Haruka kokona transport to a different spot and begins walking right in front of saki miyu. When kokona is by her locker and i sent miyu to kill her kokona transports near the fountain and gets stuck.

If the description is not detailed enough i apologize. You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

Here ill give you this strawberry for your hard work. 🍓
I look forward to see your next update soon. You will get this cake 🍰 for the next update.
No i am not a little kid if anyone asks

    • Edit;
      Glitches:
Was cleaning up blood during lunch time and at the end of lunch while i was dipping the mop with blood into the bucket and senpai noticed me and i stayed in one spot while fiddling with my hands like yandere would usually would do but i never got out of the shy mode when she sees senpai and i had to restart the game.

  12. Happy Halloween Yanderedev ! I’m glad you finally post the update and add details on the game ! I loove the new game , waiting for more ! Keep the good work ! ❤

  13. I really liked it xD like other said its a nice distraction from the main game, its something for when you think “hmm, do I really wanna play more or something els” you play a minigame and see how that works out

  14. It is a neat thing, but I feel like minigames are inherently superficial. If you got some kind of reward for the main game by beating one, it’d make a better case for them. That actually sounds like a fun rhythm, going through a day of espionage and voyeurism and coming home to make an attempt at getting some goodies in a radically different feeling game.

  15. I curious to what this could say about Yandere chan as a character.
Yandere Dev said that Ayano has no real interest in video games and only plays them to appear normal. No one is around to notice her behaviour, is she just going through the motions or do you think this could be a sign of character development or that Yan-chan is just studying for things to talk about at school?
Maybe Ayano is just playing regular Castlevania and is just inserting herself and Senpai to make it interesting for herself.
Or maybe I’m just over thinking a fun little mini game. 🙂

  16. Why not to add slipping as a way of elimination? I mean, When you pour water on Kokona and there is water on the gate a student would slip on it and get hurt, Or just to pour water on somewhere else slippy like the shower room or bathrooms? That would be really cool!

  17. I see no reason to hate the minigame. I can’t say I like the story, but I really enjoyed the gameplay! Good job, YandereDev! ^^

  18. I love the update and I hope that the mini game story line can be implemented into the real game after you play it because it seems like that is what could happen. I like the idea of playing the game, getting the warning about the succubus, and then the next day find out that Senpai summoned it! That would be awesome! Keep up the amazing work yanderedev!

  19. The comments are nice now but later on people are gonig to be hating, complaining, cursing just cause they were expecting something else and not a minigame. Well you guys who are going to do that, dont say anything and just leave. No one likes a miserable ass

  20. Hey YandereDev! I’m not sure, if this is a glitch or intentional in the minigame..
By pressing 1, you get teleported to the boss fight, where you can just hit her once and win.
I was able to beat the game a few times, in less than 10 seconds.

  21. About the minigame, it seemed to be too easy to finish, on the video. If it really is as easy as it was shown, I do not think it was that worth it. But, if the actual game is or will be made as hard as “hell”, than I would like it.
As for the halloween image, I really liked it. If it were 16:9, I would use it as wallpaper. The image on the title screen of “Yanvania” is also good.
