Yandere Simulator Fan Art Contest

I’m on vacation until September 15th, but I still want to update the blog with as many interesting things as I can. I’d like to try something new, and see if anyone enjoys it.

What I’d like to try first is…a Fan Art Contest!

A new Metal Gear Solid game just came out, so I think it would be appropriate to ask people to draw Yandere-chan cosplaying as Quiet from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain!

The winner of the contest will receive a Steam code for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and a code for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain! I’ll also be happy to link to your DeviantArt/Tumblr/whatever you’ve got, so that everyone can check out more of your artwork.

The deadline for the art contest is September 13th. On September 14th, I’ll make a blog post naming the winner of the contest, and show off the illustrations that almost won the contest.

The contest rules are:

  1. You’re allowed to include multiple characters in the illustration. For example: Yandere-chan perched on the school rooftop, aiming a sniper rifle at Osana Najimi as she talks to Senpai-kun.
  2. You’re allowed to modify Quiet’s clothing so that Yandere-chan is wearing a cross between her normal school uniform and Quiet’s clothing, or just draw Quiet’s clothing with 100% accuracy.
  3. You’re allowed to submit more than one illustration, although this does not increase your chances of winning.
  4. September 13th is the final day that you’re allowed to submit your illustration. I will not accept any submissions past September 13th.
  5. You must include the words “Quiet Contest” in your e-mail’s subject line, or else it may be impossible for me to find your entry among all of the e-mails that I receive every day.

If you need to know any other specifics, please ask in the comment section below.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 2 years and don’t know what Quiet looks like, here are some reference images:

Isn’t she just magical?

If you would like to see reference images of Yandere-chan, you can find one here and one here.

If people seem to enjoy the idea of a fan art contest, then there might be one contest per month, with a different reward each time!

So, what do you think? Is this a good idea? A bad idea? Do you have any ideas for fun fan-engagement activities? Please let me know in the comment section below!

  1. OMG, this contest exceeds my expectations of FABULOUSNESS!! I can’t wait to see the winning submission. YandereDev, you are FABULOUS!

  2. I was planing to do a fanArt of Yandere Chan, but cosplaying her as Quiet is out of the question for me. I just don’t like to draw characters in underwears or naked. Sorry YandereDev…

I like this idea of Yandere Chan with a sniper, though, so maybe I’ll deliver something but out of the contest.

    • You can make it a cross between her normal uniform and Quiet. So you could just have Quiet’s ripped up and boots with everything else being the uniform if you don’t want underwear.

Even better, totally normal school outfit and just Quiet’s face, bam.

  3. I’d like to participate, but i know i can’t draw that well, and i have no interest in metal gear at all…
If you ever make a contest for a LoveLive school idol festival serial code, then count me in! Haha

But it is a good idea, btw

    • I wouldn’t know how Yandere dev judges art, but I am guessing he’ll consider more than just color. Actually a grey and black piece with dashes of red would fit well with the newly put in place school atmosphere mechanic. That wouldn’t be too hard to color would it?

  4. I´m terrible at drawing but I´ll still try it
But i think that if you do another fanart contest you should do something more cute ,idk, I just don´t like too much the idea of drawing almost naked characters ^-^

  5. It sounds like such an amazing idea. A great way for you to keep interacting with fans of the game/blog. I suggest you continue to do it if that’s what you feel would work best with the fanbase. (I love it though)
I do have a question. Does it have to be done using a software? Or can a simple pen/pencil and paper with crayons or other art instruments, and you can snap a picture of the work you do?
I only ask since not “many” people are that skilled with using art software on a computer and they like using pencils and paper. I hope you can answer my question. Thank you for reading YandereDev

  6. Art contest sounds fun, but tbh I think that a contest every month would just be too much.
Yanderedev already has his hands full with development and answering emails.
A contest every month would just add a billion more emails to his email pile and just generally be too much of a distraction. I think the development of the game would slow down significantly.

  7. excellent idea if you have time to host it every month, I’ll even consider learning how to draw for the contest

  8. A contest every month would just get you a pile of emails. How about just every four months? Or even better, every fourth month of the year (April, August, December)?

Even better news, I’m entering. AND I ONLY DRAW THE WAY I DRAW BECAUSE I USE A MOUSE WITH A DIGITAL SOFTWARE! I put it in caps because it is IMPORTANT. Also, I’m improving my art, so don’t judge a book by its cover~ ❤

  9. Um… okay…when I was checking the blog, I was scared to click the little button in the top right corner because of my uncontrollable psycho-stuff. Don’t worry, Yandere-chan has it too.

    • “What are you talking about? I do it all digitally, I don’t wanna waste paper! And what’s a vector line? GIMP was horrible, and I imagine Inkscape would be just as horrible. I do have shading and I don’t use much lines. ”

For whatever reason I can’t reply to this at the place you said it.

I am referring to vector art. Google “vector art” and an explanation should pop up.
Inkscape is much better at vector art than Gimp is, since it specializes there. Don’t judge a book by an unrelated book. The advantage of vector art is that if you only have a mouse (a limitation you recently mentioned), you can still go back to something you drew and make it smoother.

For example, you take a the pencil tool (I’m pretty sure the pencil tool works the same way regardless of the program you use) and draw a black line on a canvas, but you, or your mouse’s sensitivity, messes it up and the line looks shaky. If you had used a “vector line” then you could’ve clicked the line and edit the part you messed up.

      • Ah, I see. Also, I found out some stuff from working more with FireAlpaca, so my shading should be less awkward and I should take less time on drawing eyes. Also, entering the contest. Yay. Time for more haters. They can’t appreciate my fabulousity, unlike most people. They also can’t appreciate some darn art made with love.

    • Um… there’s these little buttons at the top of the page… You click on Downloads… and it takes you to the page…

  10. So is this a sort of backlash to the fact that Konami took some fan art from Metal gear solid V down. I heard about this so be careful Yandedev lol XD

  11. Are collabs allowed?

If so, would anyone like to collab? I don’t need the codes, If I do it, It’ll be for fun and spreading my art, so anyone who collabs with me can keep the game codes.

here’s an example of my work: http://poke-chann.deviantart.com/art/After-a-Hurricane-There-Comes-a-Rainbow-AT-556133196

I’m looking for someone who can draw as good or better then me
Or i guess since it’s a collab, if you do better coloring but worse lining of something, that’s ok too, as long as you do the part your best at.

  12. Hey man, you don’t have to be rude to people living under a rock. I’ve been living under a rock all my life and I’m proud of it. I even have a little rock coffee table. It’s really kewl.

  13. Alright time for a stupid question, whats yanderedevs email address?I want to submit an art piece if the contest already started

    • Submitting your art here in the blog comments section is not following directions. You need send it to Yandere Dev at his e-mail address.

  14. OMG OMG OMG!!! yandere X quiet!!! This IS AMAZING!!! im going to submit one ASAP!!! btw, what details that need to be included in the email beside from the fan art?

  15. i am not entering the contest, but last night I thought of a piece that fits this contest that I want to see.

The basic idea is that Senpai is Big Boss/Solid Snake, Osana is Meryl, and, of course, Yandere-chan is Quiet.

What would a yandere Quiet do about Meryl hanging out with codenamed: “Senpai Snake”?

I’m asking legitimately, I haven’t played Phantom Pain to actually know her character. From the opening, apparently she would take way too long to try and stab her.

  16. If you enter the contest and win but already have both games what would happen with them? Would they go to the second best or just let the winner have them regardless?

  17. I’m in. I love MGS and Yandere Simulator is a game that I wanted to be true my whole life (I like Yandere girls, like Amano Yuno) and combine the two is gonna be amazing.

    I’m gonna make it Bloody!!!

  18. To be honest, I feel that “draw X cosplaying as Y” is too restrictive a theme. Better to leave more room for creativity if you expect more than 10 or so people to enter. Something more like “draw fanart that relates to both Metal Gear and Yandere Simulator”.

  19. I love contest, it´s a great idea do contest with differents prizes, I would like join in this contest but this prize isn´t interesting for me, anyway, maybe I do a fanart of yandere-chan ^^
